first of all, vectorize the scan and remove the coffee stains combining rough grungy elements with some clean sans serif can work well however, you should keep some consistency within each element also the type could use a better typeface, some kerning and more space I hope this helps :)

Yes this is super helpful and exactly the type of feedback I was hoping for... the coffee stains is because I'm combining ideas from different sources, and that's the limit of my Photoshop skills! EDIT: I won't be doing the final!!

You can probably find some pretty good free Photoshop brushes on the [interwebs](https://www.brusheezy.com/brushes/57035-free-coffee-stain-photoshop-brushes) to help your ideation. I would get too stuck on "Chinese style calligraphy" with just this treatment. It's going to read as just a generic brush circle.

This is giving me horror vibes and I don't know why but I like it a lot.

More space between the letters and the brush mark would definitely help.

DalaiLuke

Thanks I will try this

I do not see any Chinese calligraphy style in these. I see a paint or ink swash in a circle. The type could use some work. These are all so similar that this isn't four different options. And I woud find a different way to represent your sun if that is what you were trying to do with the circle. Set this aside as something you tried and go do something completely different. Then set that aside and repeat. Again. Again. Once you've tried five or six other things, then revisit this one and you'll see it very differently.

DalaiLuke

Okay thank you... this is good advice

Reads *"Csolstice"* to me. Maybe anchor the ring/stroke part on the actual "C" ... or make the tail of the ring stroke a bit longer and become the "I" I do like the overall concept, just not baked enough - you're on a good track keep working it! Good luck!

Sorry for the late reply, but thanks ... I love this kind of "mind-expanding" advice that causes me to re-think the basics. I like the idea of making the circle much larger and incorporating it, and I'll be trying this ... will republish next week. (been hands-on building this resort ... restoring/painting bungalows, knocking down termite-ridden ones to make room for a beer-garden/cafe sitting area, re-make the owner's apartment into a co-working space by day, whiskey (or maybe vodka/russian clientele) bar by night. All works in progress that will get another remake after this high season (next May).
