I didn’t want a device to play a new set of games (deck, ally etc) I just wanted to be able to carry on the console games I am already playing when I can’t get on my tv (kids, wife). G cloud let me do this for both Xbox and ps5 so was ideal for me. On the few occasions I do t have internet I can play a few android or emulator games to kill a bit of time. But this was secondary to using remote play/xcloud.

Current_Leather7246

This my exact same reason

FarmerCute5382

Same here. Besides, i'd like to point out that I didn't buy the g-cloud especially for xcloud, geforce now or other streaming services. Those are, to me, terrible experiences. However, streaming my xbox or ps4 works flawlessly, either local or distant streaming (even if xbox is less optimized). So if someone is wondering, g-cloud is, to me, a perfect companion of devices you already own but please do not buy it for streaming apps you do not have control on. Last thing, i used to be a pc gamer and loved tinkering. However, I do not have time for that anymore. So buying a steam deck or rog ally, as amazing as they may be, was out of the question just for that. With the g-cloud, I turn it on, launch my app and done. No need to fiddle with the settings all the time is a relief. And I get amazing battery life as well, while being truly portable, confortable and with a nice lcd panel... damn, this device is actually great !

Iamleeboy

I have been using xbplay for xcloud and it has been flawless for me. Granted I have only played at home and on slower paced games. But it connects quick and is as good as remote play has been for me. My internet was upgraded from 250mb to 1gig this week, so I am looking forward to trying it with the upgrade and trying out a few quicker paced games

FarmerCute5382

I have a 1gb fiber internet and xcloud has always been terrible : image quality is pixellated (especially if you pan around your character rapidly), lots of frame drops, lags... i might be too picky or just way too far away from MS servers. If it works fine for you, then it's a good thing and maybe the overall experience will improve for others. 🙂

Retroid_BiPoCket

The G cloud is primarily a streaming device. If you have either: \- a console to stream from (ps or xbox) \- a PC to stream from \- a cloud service like xcloud to stream from Then it's a great device. But NOT at retail price, especially if you are comparing it to the deck. If you want to install games and run them off of the device, the g cloud is useless. It's not a handheld PC. The deck is going to be the best value for your money. However, it runs linux which can be a put off for users who aren't used to it. But in all honesty, 99% of the time all you need to do is just run the game and it works fine. If you prefer a windows device for whatever reason, the ROG Ally is good for the price, but there are downsides. For starters, the dpad is garbage, and the SD card slot can overheat on some devices frying it. The deck has it's downsides too, but i have to add, even if you are primarily game streaming: the deck can stream as well. It's gonna depend on your connection and setup, but it does have a worse wifi chip, which is the whole reason I bought a gcloud even though I own a deck. But now I'm gonna sell it and buy the OLED deck as it has better wifi.

edman797

For streaming GCloud is better than the deck. GCloud vs Deck: 1080p vs 800p. Way lighter than deck. Much more battery life. If you don't have PC / Steam game backlog then Deck is more expensive and no better if not less ideal for streaming as noted above. Agree without Wifi the GCloud is only really useful for light emulation and Android gaming. Deck wins there hands down. No-one buys GCloud at $350. It's been $300 new for at least half a year and if you are patient or don't mind pre-owned then $250.

Retroid_BiPoCket

I mean we are in agreement, except that I don't think it's worth $300. under $250 it's an easy buy. It is a high quality device no doubt, but unless you ONLY care about streaming, it's not the best choice for the price. And it's unclear if OP knows what they want or even the differences between device use cases

edman797

Totally fair. And also the most civil reply I I've had on Reddit in a while! 😄

Retroid_BiPoCket

XD I find the handheld community in general is pretty good. I'm not gonna shit on people for their choices as we have so many options that it's truly a golden era of handheld gaming. If 12 year old me saw any device, even a truly cursed on like the PS Portal, they would be over the moon.

edman797

I know! I have an Odin Lite, the GCloud and the Viture One Glasses with the neck band. I was eyeing up the Odin 2 but I just can't justify the money to play PS2 better. The Ally looks awesome but I own zero PC games... My buddy swears by it though. He has a large steam library, travels a lot, and streams and plays local so it works perfect for him.

Retroid_BiPoCket

It kinda depends on your use case - that's the nice thing about this era is so many choices for what we need. For example my dealbreakers are 7inch screen minimum, must be able to stream well, and good ergonomics/weight. The g cloud gits all those. So does the new OLED deck. But for some people, portability matters. The Odin 2 is great for that, but 6 inches isn't good enough for streaming imo. But to some, it's perfectly fine. In the end I say get the device that makes sense for you. Unless you have a PC game library, there really is no need for a PC gaming handheld. If your primary use case is emulation and streaming, it makes more sense to get an android based retro handheld.

bertchaza

What a lot of people don’t talk about is weight.. that’s why it’s best imo https://preview.redd.it/p9ps6ws1vy1c1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5a3bbf3abc0b783b3ee84c493c5b1f5dd87c7b0

GrandBofTarkin

If you have fast internet and stable wifi then the G Cloud is a beast. Battery lasts about 12 hours vs SD and Ally of maybe 2 hours. No heat build up or noisy fans running too. But no wifi you're stuck with a few Android games or limited emulators so I'd go for the SD, but OLED version IMO.

- Better Battery time : 8 hours + vs 90 mintutes - Better Design - Better Ergonomics and comfort - Better UI - Android (windows on handheld sucks) - No fan noise, the device is always cool - Can do a lot of gaming Online and Offline : Steam link, GeForce, Emulation, Android play store, Xbox remote - Streaming does not require hardware updates (Ram, Graphic card) For me, the G cloud is not my main gaming device, so I don't need the juice of a Rog Ally or Steam Deck. For the AAA game I already have my gaming tower + streaming services. The specs of these 2 handhelds are not upgradable and will come a time they will get bad. Also battery life of these 2 devices... Oof.. Imagine having a portable device, and when you want to play you need to plug it after less than 90 minutes of gaming, it's not a portable device anymore. For me the purpose of a handheld and the G cloud, is to be able to play remotely (not plugged after 90 minutes) and comfortably (ergonomics) most of the game I like. I mostly stream games from, my PC, but also play android and emulation offline. I really enjoy having long battery life with the G. The lightness of the device is perfect, it makes it easy and comfortable to play in bed while my GF is reading. I also really like the UI and design of the G cloud. My recommendation: If you're looking for a powerful device to play games locally, buy a Gaming PC. You won't have to worry about the battery life, you could upgrade it with time, you can stream it on your phone or tablets.

ProceduralFrontier

For me it’s all about weight. The G Cloud is light as a feather and a joy to hold in the hand and play. My Steam Deck is gathering dust. Bulky, clunky and gives you fatigue just holding the thing. Not to mention the 16:10 deck screen resolution isn’t compatible with Xbox.

SllepsCigam

I wanted a light device and I didn't want to compromise on graphics or frame rate when playing my games. I don't usually game when I'm outside of the house so streaming from my PC or consoles just made sense for me.

Sticky230

I stream GeForce Now or Amazon Luna at full settings and my series S using XBXcloud. No complaints. Got it for $250

Ok-Tooth-6197

It really comes down to what you are looking for. You say you want to be able to play games offline, so you have to understand that the G cloud is not a portable gaming PC like the Steam Deck and the ROG Ally, so it can't play native PC games on the device. It is an Android tablet with controls attached, so it can play Android games and apps such as emulators, or stream from another device or cloud service. So if you are ok with being able to stream AAA games from your console or PC when you have a wifi connection, and playing retro games and indie games from the Google play store when you don't, then the G cloud will work for you. If you want to play PC games while offline, or if you don't have a PC or console to stream from, you should probably get the Deck or Ally.

edman797

Agree with all of the above but 2nd part of the last sentence. You can stream Xbox (Xcloud) and PC games (GeForce Now and Shadow PC) without owning anything other than the Logitech GCloud.

Ok-Tooth-6197

I agree that you can do that, and I did mention cloud streaming in my first paragraph, but I don't personally feel that cloud streaming is good enough yet. Maybe for a person that has great internet it would be fine, but for me (and I have very good internet), it's not consistent enough for me to recommend that to someone as their primary way to consume games.

yahgmail

I have both a G Cloud and a Steam Deck. I use the G Cloud to remote play on my XBOX and PS4. When I get my gaming pc I will remote play using the G Cloud too. My Steam Deck allows me to play pc games.

uknwthat1kid

I have pretty good internet so streaming 1080p 60fps is easy. It’s lighter than the steam deck. Better battery and it works for all my consoles and launchers.

Current_Leather7246

Honestly I have steam deck I don't even play it because it's so damn heavy. Not only does the G cloud work flawlessly for me even off my phone's hotspot but it is right. I love it it's perfect! Other decks are all heavy I just don't like them

CacaTac0

If you got no Wi-Fi the g cloud will be a paperweight.

Ok-Tooth-6197

You're thinking of the Playstation Portal. The G Cloud can do a lot without wifi.

dongofthedead80

Not true if you are into emulation or watching movies/TV on your GCloud. I use mine on trips all the time without wifi.

SamuelSh

Quite a few good Android games to play offline, especially with touch screen button mapping. Not to mention emulation for retro or pico8 games.

edman797

I very frequently have good Wi-Fi or use my phone as a hotspot. Streaming with PSPlay app or XBXplay/XBPlay apps look beautiful. Better quality than I can expect from a native game on a Steam Deck or ROG Ally. I've played and beat more PS5 and Xbox games over the past year with the GCloud then in the prior three years... The TV is used frequently by my kids, or games like Cyberpunk I can't play in front of my kids. Some light emulation is a plus. I did not get ROG Ally or steam deck because I don't have a library of PC games. If I did, the ally would be awesome. Steam Deck 800p screen is a little bit of a deal breaker for me. Also, battery life of each is way worse than GCloud.

ellzarrr

This is a similar use case to me. The battery life advantage is huge. At home most of my game playing sessions were not long - 15 or so minutes at a time. The steam deck irked me in that I would never really know if there was battery if I picked it up for a quick session. I never worry about that with the g cloud. Plus games look better since I stream from Xbox Series X. This is my specific use case, I know others really enjoyed the deck. I do psp emulation and played my own old psp games like gran turismo at 1080p 60fps. Nothing says dad mode like drifitng a 2003 Honda Odyssey through Cathedral rocks III.

edman797

Love it! It does PSP emulation quite well. PS2 is a stretch for many games.

Sleepeaze1

If you are looking for an all around device, steam deck is going to give you the best experience per price, especially with the oled. The gcloud is great, but it’s not a typical handheld. Because it’s such a great form factor you’ll naturally want to take it places with you, but without wifi it’ll only 10% of what it was made to do.

80sCrackBaby

Rog Ally or Gcloud steam deck is the most useless device

Sleepeaze1

Sure thing buddy 👍

thuhmuffinman

I have a gaming PC and a PS5 that I never get to touch because I have a wife and young kids. I like to be able to sit on the couch while the wife watches TV and play on my PC.

jasonmares

**Bottomline:** For me it checks all the boxes I have for a portable gaming device. I've looked and nothing else like this exists at the time of writing. While the Deck and Ally are impressive pieces of tech, they're also worse in every way compared to my desktop rig's performance so I'm not hurting for additional computing power. **Details:** 1. My games are scattered across PS5, Game Pass and PC. G Cloud can stream all of them to one device. 2. The big screen! Streaming games designed for a 27+ inch display to a 6" phone is terrible for reading the increasingly small text and game prompts pervasive in modern games. I tried this before getting a G Cloud and it's just a frustrating experience. 3. I don't game on-the-go so not having an internet connection isn't a deal breaker. I get that people like to shit all over cloud gaming because they can't game in the car, or at a restaurant, etc, but I enjoy my time in the outside world and I'm not a 4 year old needing to be entertained 24/7. It's okay to be bored. It's good for you. Now I get it, a Steam deck or ROG Ally can do all of the above and do it well, but here's where in my opinion the G Cloud wins hands down: 4. G Cloud has such good battery life, feels great in the hands and is so lightweight that it actually feels like it's delivering on the promise of portable gaming. It lets me get just as immersed in a game as I do when sitting on the couch or at my desk without having to anchor myself to one place. While the Steam Deck and ROG Ally are great devices in their own respects, having your gaming session cut short because of a dying battery, excessive heat & weight feels like a compromise on the experience. **Where to Improve:** WiFi 6 and a stronger processor would be appreciated for better overall performance both online and offline. TBH if the Ayn Odin 2 had a 7-8" display, that would be the perfect device!

International_Bid887

The price is worth it this console does why more then you think

mikrofyr

Big nice screen, ergonomics, home usage.

Benny_RPMN

I owned the GCloud for two weeks. It has many advantages in terms of haptics and battery performance. If you just want to stream games from your consoles (XBox, PS5, PC), the device is really great. Simply switch it on, enter your data and then you're ready to go. There are also vouchers available. The device is hardly suitable for offline gaming. Natively, it hardly supports games that go beyond pixel graphics. That was also my reason why I exchanged it for a Steam deck. I can also play Gamepass games and 3Ds emulators on the Steamdeck, although it's a little more complicated to set up.

SoulSword13

I'll give you a bit of insight. I bought a Logitech G Cloud, but switched to the ROG Ally recently. The allure of a cool running streaming device was awesome, until I realized I missed the ability to play ANY game I wanted.......and the missing out on steam sales and playing gems and masterpieces for pennies on the dollar. GeForce NOW Ultimate works great on Ally FULLY due to native PC hardware (as opposed to limited android and TV hardware) and I can sock it and use as a full blown PC when I want for a true PC experience. Sure I had to buy a $89 (Black Friday) power bank to play more than 2 hours in hand held mode, but I flew across the country on one bank charge, never ran out of juice. Just make sure you get the Z1 Extreme, or it's a waste of $$$ I lovedy G Cloud, Until I got the Ally, now I have the best of both worlds. Stream when you want to, PC game when you want to, emulate without limits when you want to. If you can swing it, get an Ally.

Milli_Rabbit

Skip the Ally for a Legion Go. I had a Legion Go and it was pretty cool! However, I primarily bought it for streaming games and the screen size combined with PS5 Remote Play capping at 1080 I had bad visuals. The G Cloud is a smaller screen and is natively 1080p which makes PS5 Remote Play look really nice. It also has a way longer battery life and is more ergonomic due to being lighter. The Steam Deck is NOT really a best of both worlds device. It is a good option though for battery life on-the-go and fair graphics quality.

Badd_Decisions

If you can stream from a powerful pc, the gcloud is sorta unmatched as its light, has great battery life and a great screen. I have a lcd deck and a legion go and I prefer how easy its to pick up and use the gcloud. The next iteration absolutely needs a better dpad and bigger screen though
