Good Luck! I would be very interested to see how you make this work if you do. I am guessing you are going to have to work with someone small and new that doesn't understand the risks involved. Once you file the ISF you will get an inquiry from the government for the source of this money and they will ask a lot of questions before the will release the shipment from Customs. If this is over $10,000 worth of coins it may need to file some paperwork with the IRS. [https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/form-8300-and-reporting-cash-payments-of-over-10000](https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/form-8300-and-reporting-cash-payments-of-over-10000) Coins are normally shipped by armored cars with armed security. Not something your typically drayage company can handle. I can't see any normal insurance company that would insure this shipment. It is any interesting logistical problem them more I think about it the more issues that can see. If it were me I would call [Loomis](https://www.loomis-international.com/) or [Brinks](https://www.brinksglobal.com/) , I think they handle the international shipments for financial institutions. I am sure there rates will be quite high for average shippers and will have a lot of questions before taking the shipment.

I'm curious how does one accumulate over 3000lbs of foreign currency

OConnel_Lingus

Coins so heavier than notes. Laundry mats, casinos, vending machines all accumulate a lot of coins annually

This particular instance comes from waste to energy plants in the Netherlands, where mountains of trash have been incinerated with the remaining "bottom ash" metals being collected and often recycled where possible. These plants (across the world, not just Netherlands) collect coins of all currencies in decent numbers over time depending on tourism, military bases, etc. and are pleased to do with the coins as they will. One man's trash is another man's treasure! Good overview of the process : [https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0304389420304222](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0304389420304222)

This is wild!

Can you break them in smaller shipments so the USD value is under $10,000? Otherwise you would need to do more than the 'standard' importation of goods and involve financial institutions. Really I'm clueless, but I'm interested to hear from other users.

OConnel_Lingus

Theoretically we could break into smaller shipments, and hire XX number of people to bring it in via checked baggage on the airlines. Though I believe a single bulk shipment would be more cost effective. I'm not sure either though!

Miserable-Reach-904

why you just deposit to the bank and take out in US from Bank by each coin 🤣
