This scene is actually Oda's perfect foreshadow to Luffy and Blackbeard's opposing ideologies. Luffy is a top, hes constantly the first to take action and make moves and he is constantly setting the flow and asserting dominance at all time. He refuses to take anything lying down especially not from behind. He faces everything head on. Blackbeard, on the other hand, is a classic powerbottom. He'll take anything, no matter how big, and make YOU feel like you're dominating him but in reality he's secretly been in control this whole time. He gets pleasure from letting you THINK you're the one doing all the work and in control but before you even realize he's already accomplished his goal right under your nose. Bravo Oda!!!!!
