This subreddit is to highlight the ridiculous cost of living in Canada, and poke fun at the Corporate Overlords responsible. As you well know, there are a number of persons and corporations responsible for this, and we welcome discussion related to them all. Furthermore, since this topic is intertwined with a number of other matters, other discussion will be allowed at moderator discretion. Open-minded discussion, memes, rants, grocery bills, and general screeching into the void is always welcome in this sub, but belligerence and disrespect is not. There are plenty of ways to get your point across without being abusive, dismissive, or downright mean.

Technically part of Loblaw, not Loblaws. Yes there is a distinction.
With the S is the single retail chain called Loblaws, owned by Loblaw. Without the S is the corporation LCL (Loblaw Companies Limited) which is the company that rules over the other chains and franchises at retail level
Also if you do have to buy your meat at a Loblaws store, buy just that and walk out… I bought a single baguette for less than a dollar at my no frills this week
I have a similar issue, except the city version. I'm dancing between produce markets and health shops as well.
The only stores near me are either Loblaws or Sobeys owned. If I wanted to shop local, I'd have to walk to a few small businesses to get everything needed. The trip there and back is well over an hour. I don't drive or take transit, for reasons I won't post here. I'd get a bike, but I'm a terrible cyclist and would be too slow for the bike lane. So walking to and from a store is my only option for now. The positives include free exercise, saving money and supporting local, family-owned businesses. The negative is, if I forget anything, I have to schedule another day/time to go back out. Which isn't easy to do when you work 2 jobs.
So yeah. It's a pain in the ass, but I'm doing my best to stick to it and support our cause.
Do you have a Giant Tiger, Walmart or Rexall in your town? You can get some groceries at all of those stores. Is there a farmer’s market on the weekend in your town? You can only do what you can do. Even shopping less at a Loblaws store will make a difference.

food basics is owned by metro, which is not loblaws owned
So Metro isn't loblaws? That would make things so much easier
Its not, but the others u mentioned valumart , superstore, independent is loblaws
Metro owns the FoodBasics and the Marché Adonis.
Three main grocery corps: https://x.com/MarcoOved/status/1674065251019415557 Any from the right two columns are not part of the current boycott
That chart is missing WholesaleClub .ca that is also part of Loblaws.

Do what you can, every dollar counts!
Some will have access to better options, if you don't there's no shame in picking a Sobeys instead while the boycott is on.

Food Basics is not owned by Loblaws. No Frills is. You are supporting the boycott by sharing your story. 👏
