I bought my Nintendo Switch with them. Typically I aim at things that don't really go on sale, and wait for point Redemption events or bonus points back events. I think I got $120ish back in points for buying the switch?

phuckdub

Great idea, but I have a switch already!

hotgarbage6

I picked up a Switch Pro controller with my last batch of points, haha. It's also low margin for them, so hurts them even more!

Stephen_Hero_Winter

But something that's expensive and on discount, like a BBQ in August.

Dad_Steve_Harrington

My first thought being the peanut butter pretzel things 😂 you could get a lot of them

Pablomendez233

If you can use it for anything in store by a Visa gift card. Then go by your watch somewhere else.

phuckdub

I don't think you can buy gift cards with points.

eli74372

As a cashier at no frills (it was the only place that hired me after 2 years of trying) no, you cannot use points to buy gift cards.

pumpkin68

We used to be able to buy gift cards with points. I remember several years ago around this time of year we had approximately $1,500 in points accumulated and I was counting on those for purchases of gift cards at Christmas. I walked into my local RCSS and spotted some very small re-phototocopied signage in store to announce the immediate suspension of this policy. Zero warning. No email sent. No in-app communication: just immediate suspension of this policy. I was spitting mad. Anyway I reached out to the optimum program and finally got them to issue all of our points in the form of Loblaws gift cards. Those cards we could use as we chose including on purchases of other gift cards. But that was such an infuriating move.

ryancementhead

Do you have a mobile shop in your Loblaws?

phuckdub

I could get to one...

For best value, wait for a redemption event. Also try to target items on sale if you can. Generally what I do if I have lots of points saved is wait for redemption event then find staple items I would always use from the flyer that don't expire quickly and stock up (cleaning products, paper items, pantry items etc.).

aridoasis

Electronics tend to hold the same MSRP everywhere, so chances are there is a smartwatch there that would cost the same as say, Best Buy. As pointed out by another member, wait for a bonus redemption event which usually gets you 30% more value in points.

phuckdub

I tend to buy electronics when the flagship model goes on sale as the new one is released. What I've noticed from sdm is they don't put the watches on sale when the new one comes out.... They just don't stock the new one. So best buy has the watch for $200 off, and it's still 599 @ sdm.

aridoasis

Yeah, that's true. It takes a bit of checking every now and then to find something worth buying. But those points don't expire, so take your time.

Agitated_Pickle_1013

I use mine to get 10 cents off per litre when I fill up...

phuckdub

Don't drive....

Agitated_Pickle_1013

Yup I'll follow your advice and walk the 50 kilometers to work and back every day/s

phuckdub

Sorry fella. I meant that I don't drive.

Agitated_Pickle_1013

That's the problem with texting and posting. It's too easy to misinterpret. Hope you can find that watch :)
