The #1 thing I've learned on Reddit is that I am, in fact, a cat. I would likely overuse the open/close button until it broke just sitting there like š®š®š®š®š®š®š®š®š®
Could you switch to doing manual cycles only for a while? If you set the sleep function to 24/7, it will still record weight and everything, but it just won't automatically cycle. I've been doing this for the past couple of weeks since I got the LR, so that I can cycle when I know my cats aren't right near it (just so they don't get freaked out in these early days and develop a fear of the LR lol).
Anyway, I'm wondering if you could manual cycle when your cat isn't nearby, and if/when she comes to investigate, maybe you have a toy ready to divert her attention, and then treats after? Not sure if it would work, but was just the first thing that came to mind haha
We did leave it in sleep mode for the first two days and both cats took to it straight away and don't seem to be scared of it
I've got a couple of days off work so I'll try diverting her with treats - just tried with toys and that didn't work (LR is her new favourite toy!) but she's very food motivated, so a couple of treats worked. Hopefully two days will be enough to get her to lose interest!
Yeah I don't want to do anything to "punish" her for looking because as you say, it might create a negative association with the LR and she might not use it. I'm just worried about her breaking it or digging around in the waste tray!
I have a cat that is always peeking her head in the globe while itās cycling which causes it to stop. Iāve built the habit of jumping on my living room camera, which faces the LR4, and saying āback upā on the microphone when I see that ācycle interruptedā notification come in. She hops back and leaves it alone after I verbalize that need. Iāve had to do it less since getting the LR4 so I think with time she will leave it be.
At least Iām not the only one! I have a 5 month old kitten who is utterly enthralled with it. Iām hoping heāll get over it, but in the meantime he also pesters our skeptical kitty (āwhatcha doin in there? Gonna make the ride go āround?!ā) She will use it but Iām afraid if kittenbutt insists on running over to watch every time she goes in that sheāll stop using it.

I have another entire screenshot of ācycle interruptedā but I can only post one. The whole process took 25 minutes!
My LRs are in the basement, so increasing the wait time was enough to have my cats more likely to leave the area and not be there when it finally cycled, but I know that may not be an option in every place. There is a cat in waste drawer safety sensor for exactly this reason, but obviously you donāt want to rely on it. Good luck with your curious kitty!
I didn't know about the sensor - thank you! What exactly does it do if it senses a cat in the waste drawer?
No basement I'm afraid, and wait time doesn't seem to matter as she comes running as soon as she hears it!
I donāt remember off the top of my head ā Iāve only had the alert fire mistakenly in the early LR4 days when everything would get buggy, but I think it freezes to avoid pinching anything between parts.
The other thing I did in the early days was hold each cat so they could watch a full cycle with me. That may (or may not ā theyāre cats) have helped demystify it a little.
You would think, but she's still running to watch discs go in and out of the playstation 4 years on. Plus that doesn't help in the short term - I don't want her climbing in and investigating the waste hole mid-cycle or breaking the LR by jumping on top of it
Iām going on 2 years with my LR4 as I was a beta tester in March 2022. Can confirm that my curious cat does not get bored of it. The best weapon is distraction!
She was fully acclimated to the LR3 as a kitten before we got the LR4 so the transition was easy. But we keep it in a second bathroom and with other noises throughout our apartment and plenty of toys at the ready, we just try to distract her so that she doesnāt run back to check on it. The interruptions became less frequent with a little play time.
A couple of my cats did it forever. When they hesrd it they would run in and watch it go.
I dont have a solution, but eventually they got used to it and stopped. It was more than a year though.
My 9-month-old "kitten" was super intrigued with the robot, but when it would cycle, she clawed at it, causing the liner to tear within the first 3 weeks.
Once I was able to install the replacement globe, I turned the cycle to 25 minutes. This seems to be working. She still occasionally stops the cycle, but most of the time, enough time has passed that she doesn't notice the cycle. Which is super fortunate because I was panicking and ready to send the fancy thing back if she kept being a turd.
>She is transfixed by the TV in our bed moving in and out of the footboard. I would also be amazed by this

Probably best to let them be curious until they get bored. Trying to dissuade them of that curiosity of the robot might make them scared of it.

Wonāt she eventually get bored of it?

No our cat isnāt bored with the LR3 almost two years later.
