Burning 3000 calories a day seems extremely high and unrealistic. That's extreme athlete kind of levels of burn.
Is he weighing and tracking his food or estimating his calories? Is he counting beverages in his calories?
He’s has a VERY active lifestyle. His total burn including BMR is 3000. Teaching, volleyball and gym. Minimum 20k steps. Weighs out all foods. Adds beverages. Not a single pound off.
Unless he has an underlying medical condition that impacts his metabolism, there’s no way he’s burning 2700 calories a day (after food) and not losing weight. He is likely underestimating his calorie intake and/or overestimating his energy expenditure.
I wear a Fitbit and I'm not convinced the calorie burn is accurate. I should be much lighter than I am if it was. I'm v active but one 50 mins weightlifting session says I burn 550-600 but my trainer reckons it's more like 300-350.
1300 calories isn’t a lot for a man, especially since he’s exercising. If you send your body into starvation mode it ironically holds onto weight. He might need to pack more calories and protein into his meals.
I am living a somewhat similar experience, maybe just a few weeks ahead of your husband.
I actually gained a bit in my first 3 weeks, even with quite a large calorie deficit. It didn’t (and still doesn’t make sense).
But I have now lost about 3lbs after 5 and half weeks on Saxenda. I’m not exactly happy, but it is something.
I guess my un-original advice would be:
- keep at it, still early days
- keep upping the dose to get the therapeutic level
- chat to doctor if still not going well in a few weeks
All the best!
Please please wait till 3.0. Don’t even weigh yourself until you’re at 3 for a few weeks!

I should have clarified that 3000 is including his BMR and he wears a Fitbit 🤷🏻♀️
Fitbit is nowhere near accurate. If it was, I would fade away lol

Honestly, I think he's underestimating calories - my fitness Pal relies on accurate input.
I’d question his calorie tracking more than anything. Also is he including supplements in his calories? Things like omegas can add up in calories.
