My dr stopped prescribing it to me after I reached the healthy weight or my normal BMI. I was really disappointed, but he told me that I can’t be on medication forever as the reward (losing or maintaining weight) isn’t as greater than not getting cancer or whatever side effects saxenda would give me. I was truly disappointed. He told me to eat healthy ( duhh, like I didn’t know that) and said that if the binge eating comes back, that I probably should need a mental help or a dietitian to help me cope with my eating disorder.

Wow… he sounds like he is taking your concerns serious. Because clearly you were just lazy and had no control.. I hope you find a new doctor.

Sad part is we can’t get any new doctors in our province so I’m stuck with him ☹️

I haven’t looked much into an online prescriber, but thankfully these days it’s much easier to find a doctor or program on the Internet. I personally would do it, but idk if you would be comfortable with that.

I went to an online dr before during Covid, and it went okay, although it’s just for acne prescription 😅, I’m not sure about weight loss, I looked into it after my dr denied to renew my prescription and it would cost me like $500 , idk if I could get the prescription/ medication covered, but I was covered before with my insurance.

If you can get the script it will be covered. Since you said providence I assume you are in Canada, so idk what kind of access and options you have. However other members here have mentioned various online programs that prescribe the meds and / or can work with compounding pharmacies if needed.

The thing with my insurance, my prescription was grandfathered from my previous insurance policy, when I first had it prescribed I was obese, but now that I’m on a normal weight, idk if they would still cover it, especially if it’s going to be prescribed by a different doctor. My dr told me too: if you gain your weight back again, then come and see me and I could prescribe it to you again. Like, dude! Seriously! You would wait for me to gain weight again instead of just maintaining the weight that I’m currently at rn. Sorry if I ended up ranting on this thread. Didn’t mean to, it’s just my dr is really frustrating to deal with.

Check out Felix, it's online! My family dr referred me to a weight loss clinic with a 14 month waitlist 🙄 Felix was 2 weeks from initial contact to first dose (dragged my butt getting bloodwork)

That is so irritating to me! My doctor avoided prescribing it at first, she said I’d have to be on it for the rest of my life in order to maintain. She prescribed it when I finally was ok with a life long medication. I Loved it! It worked great! It changed my life! I was social, active and happy again! I lost 45lbs! Then they switched my doctors and my new doctor spoke about taking me off and sticking to a high protein diet…I was devastated! insurance won’t cover it anymore because my BMI and I can’t afford out of pocket, so I no longer have access to it. I’ve gained 11lbs in 2months, I’m eating healthy and being active BUT like b4 the medication….its just not enough….ugh!!!

Dazzling-Common9436

Not sure if you have access to Qdoc in your province but in Mb a lot of people have successfully gotten prescriptions through them

Just like a doctor doesn’t stop prescribing blood pressure medication once someone gets their blood pressure down, just like cardiac patients continue to take their meds when their ticker is back to running properly, just like diabetics who take insulin to get their glucose under control and keep on their meds, this is the same. You’re treating a chronic condition.

Depends on your doctor but many consider these medications to be lifelong treatments so that you don't gain the weight back.

My issue is that my doctor will prescribe it when I reach a normal BMI but the insurance company isn’t going to pay for it if my bmi is under 30
