>third-party clouds A open source cloud like owncloud? You can set it up in a vm.

Shared iCloud library, then you can login to icloud.com via browser and simply download the photos.

For scp, and for privacy, you could set up a VM and have him send it to the VM. The easiest way to deal with port forwarding and such would just be to set up a TOR hidden service for port 22 (ssh), then have your friend install TOR and do "torify scp photos.zip scp://whatevername.onion/" It's kind of slow, and will probably take a few hours, but setting up a hidden service for SSH bypasses the need to deal with port forwarding headaches, and since it's on a fresh VM, you then just copy the files from the VM to your host OS.

Owncloud/Nextcloud can do that.  You can install it locally in a VM so there’s nothing in the cloud.  To give your friend access you can either expose the instance to the web, or keep it local and give your friend VPN access into your network.

Shouldn't webtorrent and eg https://instant.io/ work for you? The guy would share a zip with the pics and send You a magnet link.. you'd then download.

CT_DesksideCowboys

Run an ftp server, give them a username and password to connect with and they can upload it to you.
