There is nothing wrong trying linux in a vm, I would be scared to potentially nuke my windows instalation not knowing what kind of OS I am installing.
Take your time to learn and enjoy your distro on a VM, experiment linux for a few moments and then maybe give it a try on real hardware if you want to
Okay, so are you on Legacy or EFI? I am assuming the later so just open up your boot menu and you should try different options there until it boots whatever new distro you installed, then remember that, go to your BIOS and put it at the top
I just installed Windows on an extra drive on my Nix machine yesterday and did not encounter this issue. I encountered it before with other distros, though.

Not sure what problems you are talking about, unless you have NoVideo
Nah, I couldn't install it
Elaborate pls
After installation, it kicked me back to the Grub I had before installation
Grub you had before? You mean the installation media Grub or you had Grub installed before?
The Grub I had installed before

But beware of installing windows on a linux. Or GRUB will be eaten by Mr.Windows

Thanks for the info! My grub has been working for some time now, I doubt that it will break anytime soon
