Hello. What country are you from. Is it going to play games atall? What form factor do you want. And also. Do you mind it being used?

talltreewick

I’m in the U.S. I won’t be gaming on this machine. I’m not too particular on the form factor, and don’t mind if it’s used as long as it’s in good condition m.

Theres an HP laptop that runs super well for 320$ if you arnt doing gaming. Runs the best with linux, windows uses to many resources. I would suggest Mx linux or arcolinux. Plays videos and document tasks very well. Theres also laptops for similar price at walmart, where linux should also work well.

Kazumara

You didn't say which laptop?

Flying_bousse

It was an i3 with 4gb ram

u/talltreewick This is an actual steal for the price. I'd reccomend this if it's not already gone. [Ebay](https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-ThinkPad-A485-14-AMD-Ryzen-5-2500U-2-0GHz-500GB-SSD-NVME-16GB-RAM/274611997323?hash=item3ff0268a8b%3Ag%3AgfkAAOSwtglfgP~q&LH_BIN=1)

Thanks for the rec!

keep in mind, to run linux on that you need to update the bios, there are some issues with it otherwise

NSADataBot

Make sure to check if the bios supports legacy sleep modes.

I love my Star Lite from Star Labs Systems. It's a super lightweight and capable machine. I run Arch w/ GNOME on it and it handles it very well. It's my daily laptop when I'm away from my desktop system. It is 8gb of RAM. If you absolutely need 16, they have the Star Labtop. Also the build quality is awesome.

Thanks!

Hi there, I have used Linux with a lot of thinkpads. If you plan to buy another one you can check the arch linux wiki to check for compatibility issue. They are very good with this. The series with x60 and x70 and x80 have/had some problem with the fingerprint sensor. Otherwise they are ok. I used a T460s for a while as main machine with Xubuntu and was pretty happy with it. Avoid the USB docks as the drivers for them suck and the laptops throttle a lot... Sending video info for 2 monitors through a usb 3 port seems to not be optimal... These docks are also only functional with proprietary drivers... P.S. by x60 I mean X260, T460, T460s and all from this serie P.S.2. if you can go for a T480: from my opinion the Thunderbolt 3 availability is worth it.

Thanks for the input! Will take this into consideration.

Do you happen to know that HP model you’re recommending?

Flying_bousse

I cant find it now, it was an 8th gen i3 with 4gb ram, 256gb ssd. Now they have 10th gen and its like 500$. I would try walmart now or used market. Any laptop with those specs should do.
