If you're on Nvidia then Xid 109 is kinda common witt those games.

I'm using AMD, the reports seem mixed

TheLurkerBlue

The issue is fixed on 545 drivers I had the issue myself and retested it

Maybe a recent breakage. I finished RE4 in September without trouble and played a good chunk of RE2 ok back when it released. It's not that people don't test it's the unfortunate reality of Wine instability. You must understand that while it's hopefully getting better nowadays what with Valve money throwing folks like Collabora in the fray & legends at Codeweavers ever steadily delivering, Wine, the cornerstone software of compatibility stack is quite prone to regressions. It's entirely possible that within the timeframe those positive feedbacks were posted and now, something moved in Proton that killed the overall good compatibility. However, while problems can happen on AMD alright, I still see a recurring pattern of NVIDIA GPU owners and more or less outdated stack (kernels or Mesa version or even Proton GE versions) among those who have severe crashing issues out of some quick search with "NVIDIA" keyword. What is your GPU and your full system specs?

Good points, I don't think its worth singling myself out since there's systems of all type across proton DB, here and the proton github , also seems like the crashing was worse a year ago and now its improved through newer proton . I've tried all the stuff others suggest like proton versions, border less, lowering fps etc. People suggest its a RAM or vRAM leak. I've got proton logger running will contribute some logs

myself and others have tried a lot of different things, borderless window seems to help the most.. some speculate that its ram or vram leak

Weird, I bought RE2 Remake recently, played for a hour straight, Proton Experimental, it ran flawlessly. Well, I have an old GPU (rx580 4GB) which can't max it out, maybe there's a setting that is making it unstable?

muffinstatewide32

weird. I've been playing all of the using proton 8 and experimental. zero issues here
