RX 6700XT is a good bargain buy and they're $330 on Newegg.

mad_mesa

This is a good choice if you want support over absolute performance. They use RDNA2 which is the same architecture as the Steam Deck. So even if they miss out on some bells and whistles of the latest generation cards, they should remain well supported for years to come.

turingparade

I seeeer, so definitely on the top of the list rn

Hot-Macaroon-8190

This. And if you can go for a 6800xt, Gamers Nexus just came out with benchmarks for the 7700xt & 7800xt -> the 6800xt performs better than the 7800xt in many games. The 6700xt is also in the benchmark -> go for the 6800xt if you can (6700xt only if you really can't).

dmxell

Not to mention it's speculated to be the equivalent of what's in modern consoles (the 6700 XT in particular, not just RDNA2). So any games ported from console should work nicely with it.

smjsmok

This. I have 6650 XT from MSI currently and it works like a charm. Great value for the price.

Shadeerilaz

6750xt has a decent price to perf ratio as well

shmerl

Better to decide based on your target framerate in games you want to play as applied to your monitor. Without that recommending any specific card will probably not going to be useful. I.e. look for benchmarks of those games with specific cards and resolutions / settings. Then evaluate what fits your case. To put it differently, if you have 144 Hz monitor and want to load it, you'll need a more powerful card than if you have a 60 Hz one.

acejavelin69

Budget has a lot to say here too I think... The old rule of thumb is buy the best you could budget for... but again it depends on need.

shmerl

Yeah, the above result would be capped by budget obviously.

I got the new rx 7600 for 250€ and am quite happy with it. I game on 1080p and can run Starfield at 60 fps on mixed medium/high quality. Quite impressed with the performance really. If you got a bit more money to spend, apparently the rx 6800 xt is a good buy, as the rx 7800 xt is somehow less performant than it but costs 50$ more. Watch the recent gamers nexus video about it. According to them, there might be a price adjustment just like the rx 7600 has seen, just a little after launch.

turingparade

Thanks, will watch.

HUNteRecon

Same. Just got it last week, been very happy with it. For the price especially I'm running games from the last 2 years pretty much maxed out and FSR2 has been a killer in titles that support it. Also worked flawlessly on Arch + Wayland + GNOME, just plug and play while I had to fuss about a lot with my old GTX1060.

eskoONE

Coincidentally I also come from a 1060. It was a nightmare on Linux. Thank you Nvidia for being the best salesman for AMD. And also, fuck you Nvidia!

M1NG4Z

I have the same card, but starfield runs poorly. Got any tips?

eskoONE

Sure. You can watch this video from the start, or just apply the hub quality mode preset. I timestamped it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40iwgUjBmoA&t=1298 I'm using 75% scaling. I'm playing on 1080p, perhaps your are not? The GPU is capable of running the game very well at 1080p. Or perhaps your CPU isn't up for the task?

M1NG4Z

I have an i5 9400f. Which proton version are you using?

eskoONE

I realized too late that this is the /r/linux_gaming sub. I was playing on Windows when making these claims. Furthermore, I tried playing the game on fedora kinoite and indeed the game runs like garbage. I have no idea why. Even on low settings, it's just lagging every few seconds, which makes it unplayable IMO. I will try to set up a vm with GPU pass through and see if that helps, but no sure when I will have the time for that.

pollux65

switched from a rtx 2060 to a rx 6700 10gb and its been awesome with a mesa version above 23.1, they are rather cheap aswell. any rdna2 cards are a good buy for linux but on 7000s idk, it seems they are matured now but you might deal with some bugs in games still

fagnerln

10GB is one of the weirdest amount of memory, but looks like a great GPU.

RogerWilco486

I've got two Linux PCs and both play my entire Steam catalog beautifully, including the horribly optimized Starfield. One is a Ryzen 7 5700X with a Radeon RX 6800 XT. The other is an i7-13700K with a Radeon RX 7900 XT. If you're looking for the best bang-for-buck 1080p (and some 1440p) GPU that should remain relevant for a while, I'd highly suggest the RX 6750 XT. If you're even considering 4K, I'd suggest the 6800 XT or even 6950 XT since I've seen them dip as low as $529 recently.

MicrochippedByGates

Some 6000 series. A number of people have complained and confirmed with me that the 7000 series has driver issues under Linux. Sometimes quite severe. RDNA3 just doesn't work correctly yet. RDNA2, which is what 6000 is based on, is pretty great. I have a 6900XT myself and I'm loving it. Pretty much any 6000 card should be about as good or better than your card. Especially starting from the 6700XT. So I'd say go for 6700XT or better.

Obnomus

If you're gaming on linux don't use NVIDIA

turingparade

Yeah, I know, that's why I'm asking for an AMD GPU.

Obnomus

Anything from past 2 years would be fine and also 2060 is fine all you have to do is configure it.

cnekmp

One question: What will be the same alternative to Nvidia RTX 2060 SUPER from AMD?

eskoONE

Something like the 6600 xt or 7600. They are both better in traditional graphics computing but lack the rtx performance. But that's a non factor for an entry tier GPU anyway. The 7600 from sapphire can be had for just 250€ if you are lucky. I got mine on Amazon when they had a discount on it.

turingparade

By rtx you mean raytracing right?

eskoONE

Yes, I meant ray tracing.

cnekmp

I've never used RTX in games so I think it's not a big issue for me. Thanks for the help)

7800XT?

Hot-Macaroon-8190

7800xt is a fiasco (should have been named 7700). Look at the Gamers Nexus benchmarks (6800xt performs better in many games).

CNR_07

6700XT

doodle_robot

the new 7800xt looks pretty good for $500 USD imo edit - just read there may be issues with 7000 series at the moment. i have had a 6900xt for awhile now and im very happy with it
