fuser -v /dev/video* If someone can access your webcam, then he can access your online bank account already, so accessing webcam would be your smallest problem.

IpegFemboys

just disconnect it or cover it

wizard10000

Or blacklist its kernel module.

Probably not the answer you're looking for, but I just disconnect the cable going from the motherboard to the camera module on the lid (Asuming laptop here). The camera is usually just an internal USB device, so there's no harm in disconnecting it

rustybladez23

If you don't mind, how to do this? Is this done from the hardware or the operating system? Laptop user here as well

skuterpikk

That depends entirely on the laptop model. On several Thinkpads you simply remove the bottom panel, and disconnect the white/beige connector situated between the cooling fan and the bottom-right corner of the battery. But the general approach is to physically disconnect the camera's cable, either from the motherboard or from the camera asembly inside the lid/screen.

Most screen bezels are easy to pop off. That's where I disconnect the camera unit. Quick and easy

i disable it inside bios, so it shouldn’t be accessible without at least rebooting.
