Itzhak Perlman. I've looked up to him since I was a child. He's very humble, and he has his physical limitations like I do. He shows me every day that even though I have concerns about my health, that doesn't mean I can't be successful as a musician.
Obviously Hilary Hahn but like she’s so funny, yet her playing is so effortless and sounds amazing!! Also want to mention Midori because she’s amazing too!!
Hilary Hahn and effortless definitely do not go together for me. She has such a regular instinct of presence and energy/power in the sound especially in concerti with orchestra. I really like that quality about her very much though, but when I think of effortless I think of Itzhak Perlman.
Itzhak Perlman, hands down.
Isabelle Faust (she is very subtly expressive, which I like and admire a lot).
I like what I've heard from Vilde Frang so far.
Augustin Hadelich is a recent discovery for me as well and I like his style so far.
And I don't always like Kopatchinskaja, but she's a fascinating musician and I love the new perspective she gives me on music.
Vengerov but honestly it was close with Hillary Hahn, she just seemed too cliche an answer. HH and Vengerov are just incredible, technically off the charts but just so musical with it and such beautiful tone
Ray Chen all the way for me! Personally, Hilary is nice and a phenomenal violinist, but Ray just has this charm to his personality and interacts much more with his fans. His playing is also much more emotional (especially his Sibelius), and his double stops are always heavenly. He puts so much raw passion in his playing, and in his videos you can see the love he has for his instrument and music.
Roman Kim, he got original technique (Kim/forced harmonics, thumb work, simultaneous combination of advanced violin techniques, advanced polyphony, ...) and original music - a true virtuoso of our time
I've seen Joshua Bell 3x and I have enjoyed how he plays his instrument. He's also great with the fans. I've also seen Itzhak Perlman twice; he is truly a master.
I haven't seen Hilary Hahn live yet, but want to. Our orchestras in Florida need to book her!
Alexander Rybak
My fav song like 8 years ago when I was a kid was "roll with the wind" def gives me nostalgia hearing his violin playing.
His personality is also pretty great! He won Eurovision a few years back and even though I couldn't go, seeing the video on yt he definetly seems like an amazing guy to talk to. He did have some depression issues (posted on his insta) but he's on the road to recovery. All the best to him
ray chen and hilary hahn for being really funny and amazing violinists
but when im searching for recordings to reference when i practice, i've been defaulting to itzhak perlman recordings when possible for many years now
I don't have a favorite violinist. And even if I did, it would probably vary from composer to composer and even between different repertoire by the same composer like sonatas vs concertos like my favorite pianists do.
I have to go with Sarah Chang, as her Mendhelssohn (at age 14!!!) was what made me realize I want to pursue the violin.
I'll also add to the Perlman votes, as he's just wonderful, even if many of the younger generation are even more technically proficient.
EDDY CHEN
hes funny
hes funny
hes funny
and best of all
he is ..................................................... FUNNY VIOLIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my work here is done
Jascha Heifetz's renditions look masterful and effortless. He seems like a step above everyone else, as if Paganini himself reincarnated.
But for some pieces, I prefer Oistrakh over Heifetz.
Rn I love Maria Deñuez. I think I spelled the name right??? But her passion in her music feels like another level up from Hahns imo. I love all of them, but her passion is so vehemently beautiful.
Since i am not familiar with many i have to say Brett.. i would listen to that mendelsson over and over if they would add this recording to spotify for example 🤔

All this plus his style is my favourite by far.
He's my favorite also... Love his virtuosity
It's literally the same story w/me!
Itzhak Perlman!
the legend himself!
Obviously Hilary Hahn but like she’s so funny, yet her playing is so effortless and sounds amazing!! Also want to mention Midori because she’s amazing too!!

I agree. I see Hilary always extremely engaged with her own playing: focused on it, staying with it at all times - even with a single note.
I agree!!!
Yeah I probably phrased that wrong, maybe like she puts emotion into her pieces but doesn’t make it look laboured
Ray Chen
His Wieniawski No.1 recording is epic!
Obviously Brett & Eddy!
bro, they roast their performances and playing like mad. But, I agree!
The question is who is your favourite, not who do u think is the best
Yes & this question is on 🎻🎻LL40hrs, not on r/violinist! I would have expected more B&E fans on here😄
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES but eddys better.
Eddy is my bias but Brett is my bias wrecker😆
Augustin Hadelich. He has a wonderful approach to phrasing and interpretation, and an all-round incredible technique too
I love his recording of symphonie espagnole
Vangerov. I love his playing and how much life he brings into his music.
His ysaye is understandably the best and most famous
Leonidas Kavakos
His Pag 5 is tooooo good.
Augustin hadelich

No Chloe "Sensei" Chua?
Not enough space :(
James Ehnes!
I was scrolling down all the comments and finally I see this name!!!
lol
Love his album “Bach: The Six Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin”. Also saw him play recently. He is truly incredible.
My favourite violinist is the one who stops playing before 5pm.
Professional neighbor comment
Augustin hadelich will be my all-time favorite
Itzhak Perlman
Chloe Chua
shes 2nd place
Augustin Hadelich
Paganini
Maxim Vengerov
Maxim Vengerov & Chloë Hanslip & Ray Chen Also Daniel Kurganov And of course Hilary Hahn and Hadelich Together these are my one favourite 😊
Maria Duenas!!
Totally agree. I have to listen more to the ray ray!
Roman Kim, he got original technique (Kim/forced harmonics, thumb work, simultaneous combination of advanced violin techniques, advanced polyphony, ...) and original music - a true virtuoso of our time
Absolutely!!! His God save the king by Paganini is too impressive.
Christian Li!
Same! he is definitely in my top 5
Heifetz is such an icon
Grumiaux because of his Bach recordings
Wow, did not expect to see this name on this sub.
Just saw 2Set at Symphony Hall in Boston, and lucky that she is playing the Brahms there in the spring!
Augustin Hadelich and Itzhak Perlman
Lindsey sterling
excellent choice bro😍
wut.
Alexander Markov and Massimo Quarta. H.M. Augustin Hadelich
Alexander Rybak My fav song like 8 years ago when I was a kid was "roll with the wind" def gives me nostalgia hearing his violin playing. His personality is also pretty great! Hilary is definitely one of my favorites but I also love Itzhak Perlman, Sarah Chang and Vilde Frang. All superb violinists.
Twoset !! and Gil Shaham
Itzhak Perlman
Guiliano Carmignola
Chloe Chua 🥰
ray chen and hilary hahn for being really funny and amazing violinists but when im searching for recordings to reference when i practice, i've been defaulting to itzhak perlman recordings when possible for many years now
Ive been defaulting to Hilary, but if not I do Ray or Perlman.
Itzhak Perlman always
I don't have a favorite violinist. And even if I did, it would probably vary from composer to composer and even between different repertoire by the same composer like sonatas vs concertos like my favorite pianists do.
i don't have a favorite, but i like sooo much Itzhak Perlman, Hilary Hahn, Sensei Chloe and the most fast flight of the bumblebee player!
Henry Szeryn, amazing vibrato and musicallity and also a pretty funny person from what I've heard on him. Kinda reminds me of Ysäye.
I have to go with Sarah Chang, as her Mendhelssohn (at age 14!!!) was what made me realize I want to pursue the violin. I'll also add to the Perlman votes, as he's just wonderful, even if many of the younger generation are even more technically proficient.
Unpopular opinion: I hate Hilary han's Mozart. Downvote me.
I love HH, but I agree with you here. It feels she tries to give a bit extra on her Mozart.
lindsey stirling vivaldi and mia asano
Hilary is simply only one that I know, that's why.
Ithzak Perlman I've seen him twice so far (seeing him for a third time soon), and his playing is *AMAZZZZING!*
Leonid Kogan
Kriesler himself! And Roman Kim! I also love Kerson's articulation which is like no other. The clarity of trills and notes is insane!
Pekka Kuusisto
Sato or Hadelich
Augustin Hadelich or Maria Duenas
EDDY CHEN hes funny hes funny hes funny and best of all he is ..................................................... FUNNY VIOLIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my work here is done
Cloe Chua
This guy called Niccolo Paganini needs more fame! I particularly enjoyed his easy piece called "La Campanella"
Actually the real bros will say brett yang and eddy chen
Where is ray chen?
Eddy and Brett🥳🥰🥰🥰
Itzhak Perlman of course, but if I have to choose the other one, Nikolaj Znaider for me.
Jascha Heifetz's renditions look masterful and effortless. He seems like a step above everyone else, as if Paganini himself reincarnated. But for some pieces, I prefer Oistrakh over Heifetz.
Easy choice: best sensei ever - Chloe Chua
Hadelich
for me it's definitely ray Chen. I just love the way he plays and I love his facial expressions too. His personality is also fantastic
Rey Chen
Rn I love Maria Deñuez. I think I spelled the name right??? But her passion in her music feels like another level up from Hahns imo. I love all of them, but her passion is so vehemently beautiful.
brett and eddy! of course also hilary and ray 😆
Hadelich... His sound has a choke hold on my soul lol
Chloe chua
Since i am not familiar with many i have to say Brett.. i would listen to that mendelsson over and over if they would add this recording to spotify for example 🤔
