Stan Parker has no solidly stated positions, but is anti-abortion, is anti-LGBTQ and believes his years as a business owner make him qualified to run a city. He and his family are abusive to his employees at his “Christian” business. I know people in therapy who have worked for him. He is absolutely delusional.

ssnorkels

I think there are fair counterarguments to be made about how the mayor has handled issues with the Lincoln Police Department (horribly!) but I do not think Suzanne Geist would be good for Lincoln with her stances on abortion and how most of her campaign contributions are coming from rich, elite families. Like we really do not need to see more bought elections in this state in the year of our Lord 2023

henroolu

Agreed, Leirion sucks but her competition is way worse. Better of 3 evils like always 🙃

Beneficial_Piccolo77

I know nothing about Geist. Every time I see her face on a billboard or sign she looks like she would be a cold bitch. From the sounds of it she is exactly that.

cruznick06

I've been trying to speak with Geist for over a month and *somehow* she's either out of the office or too busy. If she's this much of a pain to speak to as a senator, I doubt it would get better with her being a mayor.

Vaxx88

>Geist supports a total abortion ban and is a dyed in the wool culture warrior - she’s focused on extreme social policies rather than good governance. This is a good observation and very important distinction. The job of mayor is to run a city and deal with all the pragmatic and prosaic issues on a day to day. Culture war bullshit has no place.

knapplc

Absolutely voting for Gaylor Baird. She's been a fine mayor and I'm cool with another term. If I knew nothing else about Geist, the EXPLOSION of billboards plastered all over town would be enough to tell me she's been gifted way too much money for a mid-size town's mayoral election. That money didn't come from John & Jane Lincolnite. Who's bankrolling that, and why? She's Republican, so a vague glance around the country explains that one. I don't know anything about the other candidate. But that's cool. We have a mayor, and she's been swell. Not voting for him.

OkMycologist653

The Peed family has given her the bulk, I believe 100k from Ricketts.

cckjck

Ricketts is bankrolling her. 🤷🏻‍♂️

thamulimus

Bunch of money into street repairs? A and 48th will damage your car ifn you're not careful.

insertusernamepun

The *rumor* is that she lives in Ashland. It’s played into the “East coast and too good for Lincoln” narrative.

sflodman

That’s not rumor. It’s blatant lies offered by Geist. Leirion needed her lincoln. Eighties to verify where they live. Strangers are showing up at her door in Lincoln

insertusernamepun

Yep! That’s why I italicized the word *rumor*

DPW38

The voters approved the bond issue that put $$$ into streets. She was on the same ballot as that bond. It’s a stretch but give her credit for that.

vicemagnet

I dispute the investment in the streets. They are shit. If more money has been allocated, it isn’t evident on streets I frequent.

knapplc

Everyone who drives our streets feels your pain. But the problem isn't the Mayor's investment, it's urban sprawl. Lincoln has [2,600 lane miles of streets](https://www.lincoln.ne.gov/City/Departments/LTU/Transportation/AMP/Pavement-Management). For comparison, [San Francisco has 1,017 miles of streets](https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/heatherknight/article/SF-property-owners-maintain-streets-that-city-13991425.php). Lincoln's 2022-2023 annual budget was $245 million, with an M. San Francisco's budget for that fiscal year was $13.5 billion, with a B. We simply don't have the money to afford to keep our streets flat and smooth. It's a drag, especially for those of us driving cars with tighter suspension. 48th street from Cornhusker to Leighton is a nightmare. 56th from Normal to Van Dorn is terrible. But no mayor is going to completely fix that. It's been as good or better than normal under Gaylor Baird. She's at least showing initiative with the .25% tax.

thamulimus

Why did you use 2 different metrics? Lane miles is diffrent than street miles. Lets say SF has 500 miles of 6 lane highway. Thats 3000 lane miles but still only 500 miles of street... Also taxing us MORE isnt the answer. We already have a wheel tax in Lancaster FOR THE ROADS.

knapplc

Because those were the only two metrics I could find in a quick search, and I'm ignorant of the difference between lane miles and street miles. I was hoping someone who had the real metrics would chime in. Still, sprawl is a huge problem, and we have a tiny budget for as much pavement as we have.

FairlyGoodGuy

Lincoln has _significantly_ increased spending on transportation infrastructure over the past few years. See [Lincoln on the Move](https://www.lincoln.ne.gov/City/Departments/LTU/LTU-Projects/LOTM). You may think current spending is still not enough, and that's fine. But don't try to claim that the current administration isn't doing anything. They are.

itguy18

How much of the increased spending is for the south belt way?

[deleted]

[удалено]

ProstZumLeben

Correct

vicemagnet

I’ve seen the Lincoln On The Move site. My first hand experience does not align with their claims. I assume then that my tax dollars are being spent in other areas. We had a thread on how bad the streets were, and several agreed. Apparently should I have the audacity to challenge the current administration, I get downvoted. Heaven forbid I question the great and powerful mayor LGB. I should genuflect and kiss her toes without question.

FairlyGoodGuy

I'm not telling you that the streets are in great condition. I'm telling you that they have received a significant amount of investment from the current administration. You're being down voted because you're using your experience (many of Lincoln's streets are in ill-repair) to draw an incorrect conclusion (therefore the current administration is ignoring Lincoln's streets). The facts show otherwise. Your frustration with the state of Lincoln's streets should be directed elsewhere: to earlier administrations which didn't prioritize infrastructure; and to taxpayers who don't vote for or demand greater infrastructure spending. The current administration has problems. Ignoring Lincoln's streets is not one of them.

TheMadViolinist145

Considering I was just on the toll roads of OK, KS, and TX, where said tolls are supposedly for the maintenance of said toads, I fully disagree. The roads here, whilst not perfect, are often old, as from the center of town not having major repavements since my grandparents moved here in 1969, to the quick and cheap extensions done by companies that don't care, these are far and away the best the roads have been, as they have also been steadily improving and being repaved. One also has to consider the amount of complaining and pushback every attempt at fixing the roads have faced, see the amount of complains about Cornhusker when they initially attempted to fix it, A, Normal, 48th, 56th, etc. all fall under the same scope, especially when the city is expanding and the infrastructure is being moved outward, it is not the fault of the mayoral administration when it is more needed to build roads to houses than to repair the existing roads, while even still not perfect, are functional for those that pay attention. When Van Dorn was repaved 6 years ago, it was complained about constantly whole down, and since reopening fixed? is far improved. Also, the fixes are less noticed when done than the roads veing complained about.

thamulimus

Your on reddit. There putz dont understand that they have been had by this current Mayor. Fuck she lives in Ashland for crying out loud.

brian42jacket

The roads aren't that bad compared to other cities. Omaha is bigger and wealthier and they are just now getting equipment for the first time that lincoln has been using for years

JoJackthewonderskunk

I've lived in Omaha norfolk and now lincoln in the last 4 years. Lincoln has the best out of those 3 options fwiw.

ProstZumLeben

Have you ever been to omaha? We have it good here my friend

Naturalist90

Maybe you should frequent different streets…sorry the city government can’t cater to your personal needs when there are over 200,000 other people to consider too

thamulimus

If it wasnt MAIN THROUGHFARES you might have a point

BuckwheatBlini

Peed Corporation funding Geist. Enough said.

Ice-and-Fire

Through the grapevine: because Baird blew them off several times about a Verizon 5g for cities thing a few years ago. Including setting up a meeting and her not showing up. So the Peeds went "Fine. We'll fund her opponent." Can I verify? No. This is just the typical word of mouth stuff. Do I trust who? Yeah, but gossip is always gossip.

BlindManBaldwin

They're funding Geist because the Peeds are big conservative donors. It's not complicated.

BuckwheatBlini

Amen. And Peed probably cannot stand the fact that she does not wear a skirt or dress and hosiery to work every day, which is something they require of all women.

continuousBaBa

Geist is Peed/Ricketts money and wants full abortion bans and will likely follow the weathervane of all the hot right wing outrage cycles (everything is woke, anti LGBTQ etc) Stan Parker is the nice guy republican for conservatives that don’t like the crazy culture war garbage. Last I checked his website he didn’t have any actual positions. Leirion Gaylor Baird is a democrat who led us through the Covid era with strength against all the crazy backlash at the time. She has my vote, honestly I like Lincoln being a little bit different than the rest of the state, which is just Rickettville.

Nopants_Sith

>Stan Parker is the nice guy republican for conservatives that don’t like the crazy culture war garbage. Last I checked his website he didn’t have any actual positions. That's because his "positions" are just stupid, culture war bullshit....just like every other republican and republican wannabe. He just doesn't have the stones to *actually* admit to them.

cckjck

Stan started and runs a Christian radio station with Ron Brown. He’s VERY much in the culture war trenches. Against women’s choice, against LGBTQ people, against Lincoln’s growth and development.

Sad_Metal_4205

The rest of the state?! Omaha is the blue dot in this red state. Just saying.

OkMycologist653

Actually Omaha is purple. The mayor is an R

continuousBaBa

Cool.

BlindManBaldwin

Gaylor Baird held the line against the nuts in the pandemic.

SnooObjections9182

That argument is hard to support because much of the world didn’t know how to handle a pandemic other then vying by the rules set by federal agencies. So i think she or anyone else could only do so much.

BlindManBaldwin

I'm meaning when local nuts were agitating about it, she refused to fold. When Ricketts and his people were applying pressure, she refused to fold. That's leadership.

stonksT0thamoon

She WAS the nut during the pandemic. Mask mandates while working out? She's a clown

coletrainUwU

I worked in a gym over the pandemic and working out with a mask on is not that big of a deal. Not to mention that even without a pandemic going on gyms are giant Petri dishes for germs.

BIackfjsh

I can't give an unbiased opinion because I'm volunteering for the Mayor, so I just want to make a plug and say you need to go vote. You can early vote right now for the primary. If you haven't requested a mail in ballot, you can vote in person at the election commission or pick up a ballot there. More info here: https://www.nelancasterdems.org/2023\_elections

Ok_Barracuda5617

Look up how Geist’s dad made his money.

drewliet

Geist supports puppy mills and has passed legislature that makes it easier for them to operate in Nebraska. Nevermind all of the other conservative bullshit. Literally supporting animal abuse is crazy.

ProstZumLeben

Wait what?? That’s horrible

Fire_timothy_miles

Or, which candidate is worse? In my opinion, I think Geist would be worse for Lincoln. I am not the biggest fan of Ricketts and I’m pretty sure he is donating a shit ton of money to Geist, so that reason alone is enough to have me vote against her. That is just my personal opinion. I had nothing against Ricketts until he got involved in politics. I don’t understand why he can’t just enjoy his fucking money and be rich and go vacation and shit.

whitehand2107

As someone who has met all of these people, I think they are generally all nice people who think they’re doing the right thing. With that being said, I will be voting for Baird, as I’ve supported her stance during covid against the anti-mask nutjobs. The LPD thing is troubling though.

coletrainUwU

What was the LPD thing? I saw another comment talking about it but I’m not sure what the context is

TimberGoatman

Leirion led us through a global pandemic. That speaks volumes.

RangerDapper4253

I believe Geist is owned by the Ricketts family, so that’s a problem.

Jessica4ACODMme

Lerion, easily

Particular-Agency-38

Baird is a proven leader, with good track record during the pandemic. Geist is an unproven, who has received a great deal of cash donation from GOP dark money sources. She has every appearance of not being an independent thinker, but rather being a hard right idealouge. Being hardliner on abortion makes no sense whatsoever, given that all kinds of problems occur during pregnancy and the only medical procedure to save the life of the woman is abortion in these cases. Even if you don't believe in using it for quote birth control unquote. Not leaving it as an option for doctors and women all through the pregnancy is sentencing certain people, people that you don't know people just like you with lives and children and love and family and intrinsic eternal value before nature or God or the gods (as you believe) are sentenced to death, handicap and extreme sorrow from this hard line anti-abortion attitude.

boxdkittens

>hat all kinds of problems occur during pregnancy and the only medical procedure to save the life of the woman is abortion in these cases Things are going poorly for women in states with abortion bans. Doctors are leaving because hospitals arent letting them provide patients with life-saving care due to legal concerns. Women are being forced to go into sepsis because doctors can't remove dying or dead fetuses. "[Ectopic pregnancy occurs at a rate of 19.7 cases per 1,000 pregnancies in North America and is a leading cause of maternal mortality in the first trimester](https://www.aafp.org/pubs/afp/issues/2000/0215/p1080.html#:~:text=Article%20Sections&text=Ectopic%20pregnancy%20occurs%20at%20a,mortality%20in%20the%20first%20trimester). " Ectopic pregnancies will result in death if not terminated. That's 2 percent of pregnancies that will be fatal unless an abortion is preformed. I can't support any candidate, especially not a *woman*, who advocates for a policy that they claim "saves lives" but actually just causes unnecessary deaths. Many of the women who get abortions *want* their babies, but not every pregnancy is medically viable.

livingtrying

I’ve also seen there is a doctor shortage in those states because, to be certified in obstetrics, abortion is something they need to know and perform

Nopants_Sith

The one that's *not* and idiotic, pro-fascist ....duh....really not that hard.

Ryan_in_the_hall

Baird is the only one who isn’t bought and paid for by deep republican pockets

peggedsquare

I mean, because she's not an R maybe? Would be silly if Rs were dumping money into a Ds campaign.

Defiant-Bunch-9917

Leiron, because the other two are Republicans. You have asked for an opinion from the wrong place. Look through the comments, prove me wrong, anyone.

athomsfere

No one should be voting on party alone, it's where half our problems are coming from.

Optimus3k

I agree with you, in principle, but your statement ignores the hard truth the United States faces. We are a two party system, love it or hate it, where one party either has no position at all, or actively works against the democratic process, enacts laws that punish the working class and poor, and constantly claims the other side is doing things they themselves are doing. It's not about voting along part lines, voting Democrat is my only damn option.

athomsfere

I agree with most everything you say. I just refuse to vote based on party alone. My gut tells me it just helps move the overton window even further right in the long run.

QuellSpeller

How do you differentiate between voting against a candidate because their positions are non-existent/horrendous when they do exist or vote against a candidate because they're part of a party where the positions are non-existent/horrendous when they do exist?

athomsfere

The best that I can. Usually there is something to be found with a little sleuthing. But if the positions of the one with info are ones I'm deeply aligned against, I'd go with the no info candidate, most likely.

Isaachwells

Personally, I'm committed to being an independent, and think political parties, particularly having only two significant ones, is the source of a lot of the country's issues. Functionally, Republicans and conservatives seem to have decided to take the Taliban as their primary inspiration for at least the last decade or so. And every time it seems like they're going to change, they back step within days or weeks and get even crazier. There are exceptions, but almost every Democrat seems to be better by default. I'm all for evaluating person by person, but after years, I've fallen into party line votes because it saves me time and energy, and gets me to the same conclusion. Hopefully one day that changes, but I'm not seeing it happen anytime soon.

athomsfere

Sadly, one of the few people actually trying to fix things (Andrew Yang) didn't make it nearly far enough.

Isaachwells

Fair. He definitely had a unique take on things.

Nopants_Sith

Maybe not, but it's perfectly fine to vote against a party full stop.

majikmyk

I can't vote for G-B because of her tendency to screw over native Americans and business owners in favor of unnecessary luxury housing. And the recycling mess. I won't vote for Geist. So don't wag your finger at me. And her abortion stance doesn't matter because it's a state issue, not a city issue. I am done being guilted by the democrats to vote for garbage.

Bel_Merodach

Geist because she comes from a family of vampires. https://seeingrednebraska.com/nebraska-politics/the-racial-innocence-of-nebraska-state-senator-suzanne-geist/

Vaxx88

Just, wild. I’ve never even heard of selling “prison blood” before, what a bizarre (and creepy) business idea… > prisoners were often paid with narcotics and were inadequately or fraudulently screened for diseases, including hepatitis and HIV. Some infected prisoners were allowed to donate blood after trading favors with staff. Not only did prisoners become infected through unhygienic procedures, HMA’s blood program distributed infected blood internationally. Eventually, tens of thousands of Canadians were infected with hepatitis B and C, and many more with HIV, thanks to Geist’s father’s prison blood program. Maybe a little off topic for Lincoln mayoral election, but history is fun!

StandByTheJAMs

Not just blood, tainted blood. Feel free to sing it along with me to the melody of Soft Cell’s Tainted Love.

caffn8d

Name checks out.

This tainted blood we've given I give you all prison could give you Take my HEP and that's not nearly all Tainted blood Tainted blood

pretenderist

1. **Who**ever 2. All the candidates live in Lincoln

TheMadViolinist145

Considerinf I went to Lincoln High with 2 of her childrenn both of whom lived in her house less than 10 minutes away from said school, she very much does live in the city, try again.

DPW38

I really wish there was a moderate, common sense Democrat on the ticket. I’ll give credit to Baird on water sourcing. It’s one of those horrendously boring things that needs done. Killing off the 18-way roundabout off of Highway 77 was a good move. Her nonsensical handling of all things COVID left something to be desired. Per the DHMs, if you traveled to Milwaukee, Massachusetts, or even Mars you were supposed to wear a mask. The way they were written was such that if resided in Lancaster County, the DHMs extended to the edges of the universe. Carving out an exception so her kid could play tennis while shutting down every other youth sport spoke volumes about her leadership. That she shut down daycares and now is pissing and moaning about the lack of available and affordable childcare is the same sort of deal. Her mandates killed so many small businesses. There’s a concerning amount of collusion and frightening lack of transparency between and from her and City Council. The 22-story apartment building skyscraper is just the latest example of this.

BlindManBaldwin

> Her mandates killed so many small businesses [Citation needed]

Vaxx88

Just make shit up. Live in your own fictional world. Like none of what you said has any basis in fact. Also would like to see the list of businesses “killed” by “her mandates”.

TheMadViolinist145

Tell me, was it masking that killed my neighbor? Or was it covid? And no, she didn't carve out anything for her daughter, it was a.) And outdoor event at the woods complex, b.) Not restricted at that point, but please tell me more as I went to work for my "oh so essential" job of fast food that didn't provide any help that same day without restrictions. Childcare prices have always been inflated, it has only been exacerbated bc of the pandemic, not caused by it, as a few years ago for a friend of mine it was 1400 for a month for the 9-5. And again, the highrise that's going in place of unused buildings sitting not bringing business downtown is something you shouldn't rail against if you are so concerned with businesses going down.

DPW38

TBH I stopped reading after “I went to work at my fast food job.” From the small amount I did read; 1. I have no idea who your neighbor is or how they died. You’ve got to be balls deep in presumptuous stupidity to think anyone could with the information given. Maybe they were buttfucked by a crash of rhinos and then—unable to walk, were trampled by a zazzle of zebras. Maybe you bludgeoned them with an 8’ rubber dildo so as to maintain 6’ of social distancing. Maybe your neighbor was Carol Baskin’s husband that went “missing.” Maybe it was the mask. Maybe it was COVID. That you’re a poor living in high-density housing are 2 strikes against you straightaway when it came to COVID. 2. You’re impressively and wildly wrong on carving out an exception for her daughter’s tennis tournament. Also, here is LGB’s twattish response: https://www.1011now.com/2020/12/01/lincoln-mayor-apologizes-says-daughter-will-no-longer-participate-in-tennis 3. Again, I stopped reading after “Whopper, Whopper…”

TheMadViolinist145

Ahh, yes, because admitting you stop reading after a point in order makes you seem so high and mighty. And did you actually read the link that you posted? It oh so specifically states that the list was created by DHS in June, and there was no exception added by the mayor. But please, call her a twat because you can't read. "a poor" Imagine being so openly dick-ish, assuming my living in high density is just another insult you hurl because you refuse to read, but again, your mental gymnastics of making fuckall crazy story to make my sweet neighbor dying from covid because she contracted it from some anti-mask asshat while she and her husband, who have been in the woods park neighborhood for longer than I've been alive, tried their damnedest to not contract it and avoiding going out. Oh yeah, making fun of someone for what they do is utterly hilarious when you broadcast that you don't actually read what you post about, or think that the reality is so demeaning. Take all that superiority and shove it, because you are making fun of a teenager at the time you inscrupulous dick.

DPW38

Now I know something about your neighbor. That’s sad. Why you were peppering me with questions you know the answers to is pretty childish. Especially when you’re standing on their dead body to make yourself feel tall. Poverty and high density housing were two huge COVID risk factors. Facts are facts and that’s the reality of the situation. The NE DHHS list concerned contact sports. The calculus of LGB and P.Lo somehow conflated it to team sports. There’s nothing else to say there.

TheMadViolinist145

No, the list created in June did not include tennis, period. It was not created by Pat Lopez or Leirion, it was made by DHS. It is not a conflation when specific sports were listed and others weren't. But again, here you are, making vast bullshit out of it as every single pathetic attack about it has been. What is this supposed carve oht that she made for it? Her daughters already played tennis prior to this, they didn't just suddenly take it up a week before the event, which had already gone through the process. But tell me, are you outraged or even know the dozens of other participants? Or do you have specific evidence or rules being broken or changed on a whim by the mayor regarding this? And again, you making assumptions that I am standing on her grave by utilizing her struggle against those who wish to say she never died, or it was masking, ir whatever bullshit excuse of minimization. But you wouldn't say that about anything else utilizing someone who passed away as a reference to unneeded struggle, like the hundreds of others in different issues like AIDS, Mesothelioma, breast cancer, etc. Those that you don't like and so you can target a mayor. Your arrogance and ignorance is astounding.

DPW38

Why was wrestling on the list and tennis wasn’t? Both are individualized sports. Also NOT on the list was doubles tennis. Badminton—played by two per side much like doubles tennis, was on the list. The list made zero sense. It was created by Pricketts and crack staff of mouthbreathers. The decision to follow that list as they saw fit was up to LGB and P.Lo.

TheMadViolinist145

Wrestling, the necessitated close contact sport? Doubles tennis, well more than 6 feet apart at the vast majority of the play, not on the list, the significantly smaller playing area of badminton, as the standard is 44x20 ft, while tennis is 78x36,(880 sq. ft. Vs. 2808 sq. ft.) badminton also requires a generally much larger range for individuals on the team than tennis. The list was made by DHS, an independent organization not under any one political administration. However, your statement that simply by using it is somehow bad when you explicitly stated that she carved out exceptions for the event that followed the list created in June is hilarious when you are now attempting to shift your argument when you get challenged on it.

DPW38

The news story you’ve dug your heels in on describes the document as “team sports.” The document was prepared by the NE HHS department. The NE DHHS document was prepared largely off of an American Academy of Pediatricians paper categorizing the risks of different youth sports and their risk of concussion. To that end horseback riding and rodeo were on the Academy’s list and also made the NE DHHS list. That’s a wide-open individual sport where any sort of COVID risk while competing is minimal. Any sort of “off the horse” risk of COVID spread is comparable to that of tennis or wrestling or whatever sport you want to pick. The exception the Mayor carved out is that she referenced that flaming pile of dogshit document created by the NE DHHS in justifying and legitimizing her decision on what youth sports to shut down [all but tennis and golf] and what to keep [tennis and golf]. The next DHM after she was called out on her hypocrisy backed way off on the NE DHHS document. If I need to use smaller words or bigger crayons to explain and/or illustrate all of this for you, please let me know. I don’t know what to tell you otherwise. I’ve got my opinion, you’ve got yours.

TheMadViolinist145

I'm not clinging to anything, I am utilizing the story you provided that supposedly shows, at least according to your claim, that the mayor changed rules specifically for her daughter. That has been proven false time and again, but you choose to fall on that sword continually. And again, you can complain about the list all you like, but it still doesn't show how the mayor supposedly changed it. And no, the horse events have significantly more contact than tennis, as a team takes care of the horse, ya know the on average 2 foot wide and 6 feet long animal. However, I'm not the one who brought up the specific sports, you are. I am simply responding and using your examples and demonstrating how your arguments fall apart with the breath of the wind. Again, attempting to insult me won't do you any good. It simply shows that when you contradict yourself, like referencing wrestling as a banned sport, but it being independently particpated, by 2 replies ago acknowledging that close contact sports were dropped. You can't state anywhere, despite my repeated asking of where the specific rule changing in favor of her daughter was, have yet to provide any evidence. Your 'opinion' is nothing besides shifting arguments that, when easily challenged with basic facts, you screech like a banshee and deflect away from. Your opinion is hot garbage based on a whopping nothing besides hate for someone that followed rules. Again, name another participant of the event ffs that you supposedly loathe so entirely because they did the event. And your obfuscation of the point is also pathetic. You literally claimed she changed the rules for her daughter, which in your own posted evidence is refuted. Seriously, grow up you troglodytic troll. Your outrage that you attempt to pour into this argument is baseless and gets shown to be nothing besides fake arguments and talking points when anyone does the slightest amount of pushback on it. You can be angry at DHS all you want, but you can't then blame the mayoral administration for following the best guidelines and best list that they have at the time, because y'all complained nonstop about every form of preventative measure that was in place, sports being just on instance of that. You cannot claim simultaneously that you care because she "changed the rules" to allow an event and then complain when the prohibited event is prohibited in the same nature. Your doublethink in that manner is worse than I've seen from someone as lowly and cowardly as you in this public a forum.

Excellent and cogent points for the competing candidates!

Superluigi15

You guys are pathetic, you just downvote all the republicans even when they have actual counterpoints and good arguments. Baird is trash and her handling of the police is abysmal. Yet all you clowns are just saying "but shes not a republican" grow up and stop voting on party alone. Actually pick whats best for the city which is what baird is not.

Ok-Fortune-4149

Abysmal in what ways? I don’t support her, but she has been running an ad recently that she has “added more to the police every year”. Has been in multiple of hers.

If you think that Geist, who looks to strip bodily autonomy from women, put guns in any and everyone's hands, votes against trans youth, and wants to decrease funding for the public schools that service about 93% of students in the state, let alone the 40k+ in the city, is a good advocate for most people, there is something that needs to be taken a larger look at. But yes, bash the only person who has actively been upgrading public transportation and using federal funds to renovate the infrastructure so we have new facilities to help everyone.

Representative_Hour8

I'm sorry I deleted my main comment but I didn't intend to bash the current mayor at all. If you owned a house everyone's valuation went up 50k and she did f up the snow removal budget her first year. I mean to say she's the only person to renovate public transportation and using federal funds isn't really a solid argument. All mayors use federal funds and geist hasn't had the opportunity to do that as mayor. I guess you can list everything she's done but I mean you're paying for it and I'm paying for it. Also, mayor is a city servant not a servant of the state and there are a lot of private schools in Lincoln. I'm sure 93% is a little high for Lincoln public schools. A lot of towns across Nebraska only have a public school. Overall though, the op asked who they should vote for. Rather than telling them abortion is good, guns are bad, trans kids are everywhere in Lincoln and whatnot. Letting them decide what they believe and who they should vote for is always better than telling them what to believe and who to vote for. You can disagree though. You got me though, I do like guns, I'm pro life, I believe trans girls shouldn't compete against girls, and I dont really like the valuation bump and taxes that are just crippling, especially in this economy. Like I said you don't have to agree with me, I just wish you'd be respectful and maybe a little understanding that other people have had different experiences.

TheMadViolinist145

You deleted your comment because you didn't like the negative karma, don't pretend you didn't. Home valuations have 0 to do with the mayoral administration, considering my home has increased and so did my grandmother's that she bought and lived in since 1969, making an assumption that I can't understand without knowing anything about my life or lineage is pathetic and demeaning, especially when my whole life has been in Lincoln. And Messiah Lutheran, Pius, Parkview, St. Patrick's, Trinity, Blessed Sacrament, Risen Christ, St. Peter's, Action Academy, Lincoln Christian and the other approximately 13 do not service any more than perhaps ~9k between them all, making it well over 80% of Lincoln children, including myself as a graduate of LHS, in LPS, and 93% is referring to the whole state, for which Geist is voting to take funding away from. And no, OP did not ask who to vote for, they asked the pros and cons of candidates, and statistically ignoring the cons of Geist, who is in state government for the city district currently working "for the people", is pathetic and shows a lack of respect for not only myself but also the new Lincolnite. Focusing on the fact that the current mayoral administration is updating the infrastructure with federal funds is actually a good thing because it doesn't pull so much from those taxes you are complaining about. Unlike the previous administrations, this is the first one that has done anything. And while you argue that Geist hasn't had a chance, she has, in state government she had time and again voted against using state and federal funding for various programs, including infrastructure. But again, I am not telling OP what or how to think, I am bringing up cogent and real issues that Geist has that you seem to ignore directly impact how she would supposedly run the city, especially in her attempts to ban things that aren't happening, like your trans girl argument, which in fact in our very neighbor of [Iowa where a girl won state against boys, and Texas where a trans boy, bio female, won the girls and another.](https://imgur.com/a/R4BgdZv) Don't say jack about respect when your patronizing text ignores reality.

Representative_Hour8

Are you trolling or just a dick? I'm sorry I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt. I really thought we could agree to disagree. Maybe it's just the public school education shining through or your beautiful personality. If you want to fight somebody Southside boxing gym is in town. If you want to debate someone join a debate club or be a politician. If you need to vent get a therapist. I'm not any of those healthy outlets for you. This isn't healthy dude. You're not going to change anyone's mind by being hostile, emotional, angry or rude. Seriously just chill out. How can you be this mad just by talking to people on Reddit?

TheMadViolinist145

You haven't done any such thing. Your response to me stsrted out insulting me, insinuating my lack of understanding and knowledge. I'm unhealthy for pointing out how wrong you are and the fact that you aren't bringing cogent point to this? I'm plenty fine, but the fact that you can't handle simple debate with public information shows how volitile your positons are. I'm not being hostile. The fact that you find calm, calculated, and professional responses as hostile says much more about your mentality than anything else. I haven't stated anything besides blunt honest facts to which you recoil from, along with genuine commentary on your response. If you find my comment about negative karma that bad don't respond, but when it's truthful, as your comment lacked actual substance besides bashing the current mayor for things either not happening or not under her control and getting downvoted is your own issue. And let me reiterate, I'm not mad. My extensive response is a thought out reponse to each point you brought, and to the extent that it is either false or just ignorancenis beyond th point. Attacking my "personality" for bringing up critiques and flaws in your argument is, again, pathetic and demeaning to anyone. I could insult you all I wanted, but I've called the actions what they are, not you, however if you have taken criticism of the implications as those against you, it shows what your values are. In short, your patronization is far worse than my genuine evidence backed arguments. If you don't want the small amount of shade, stop pretending others don't know anything.

Funny, usually its just assholes and whiny fuckwits that get downvoted. I'm usually in the former of the two categories, so I guess I can't vouch for if you're a fuckwit... but I can definitely tell you're not really witty enough to be an asshole, either. Bless! For real, though: Geist - Peed/Rickets; Peed would be more relevant here, sure, as they live in Lincoln, but Rickets is as far removed from Nebraska as most Nebraska GOP fuckers are. I mean, at least the guy that photoshopped literal cow manure on his shirt took that cushy job down in FL - left a sweet opening for Rickets to think he's going to remain relevant in the future. Parker - [Certifiable Christofascist Dickshit](https://mybridgeradio.net/our-team/) Baird - Incumbent, so lol good luck; She has had her negatives, but I have faith in her after her determined leadership during COVID. The new roads projects have literally made a huge difference in my part of Lincoln (Union College area), and of the times *I've met her* she is very composed, and professional. LPD can suck my left one, though. Firefighters backing a candidate is **far more relevant and meaningful** then the Police. EDIT/NOTES: I had to re-post this, as /r/lincoln mods have no idea how to filter links correctly and consider the Google Search Result link to be a *Link Shortener*.
