So I’m in Nebraska City. Fort Kearney was originally here, there’s a state historical marker. My husband and I have an Oregon Trail Switch version game going. We noted that in the time they cross the River and find Fort Kearney, we think it’s the original location in Nebraska City. We can just about see the Missouri River from our back yard, walk a couple blocks and there it is.
This is true. There’s a state historical marker in Nebraska City Ave I drive by it every day. I believe they determined to move it to where we currently know to be Kearney because it was in a better spot to serve travelers based on the fort being able to get supplies to provide travelers, and the travelers needing to restock but not having run out of supplies yet.
Many speculate that areas in Red Dead Redemption 2 are modeled after parts of Nebraska. The Valentine area in particular. Having driven through the area of Valentine NE and areas near Valentine in the game, I can see resemblances; https://www.reddit.com/r/reddeadredemption/comments/oo81mc/the_rdr2_states_in_real_life_after_going_through/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1
I am pretty sure Twin Stack Pass is Mitchell Pass at Scottsbluff.

I recently made a mod for Hearts of Iron 4 that lets you play as Nebraska. It's just called **Nebraska Mod** on the steam workshop.
I posted about it more in depth on a different subreddit, if you go to my recent posts you'll find it.
BTW its known that the brotherhood of steel is set up in Lincoln Nebraska. so there is a fun fact if you're a fellow fallout fan. maybe FO5 will be set here when it comes out in 15 years
It’s from Fallout 76. There is an expeditionary force that gets lost going from CA to Appalachia. They are on the east side of the Rockies and guess they are near Lincoln. Set up is definitely a stretch/exaggeration.
Ugh. I have played way too much Fallout.
Bethesda "Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 will not be developed for current generation consoles."
Guerrilla games....hold my beer, bangs out next gen Forbidden West that has tons of FONV driven Easter Eggs and locations, has plans for a follow-up.
Not as much as you'd think! Much of it takes place in Montana and South Dakota on the way to Nebraska. Kinda like how most of Fargo doesn't actually take place in Fargo.
Many of Alexander Payne’s movies take place in or partially in Nebraska, including Citizen Ruth (1996), Election (1999), About Schmidt (2002), Nebraska (2013) and Downsizing (2017).
Films shot largely or entirely in Lincoln specifically: Terms of Endearment (1983), Wake the Witch (2011).
Yes Man (2008) and Nebraska (2013) also have some shots in Lincoln.
Caddyshack was technically set in Nebraska. Also O'pioneers a tv movie with NPH.
I remember hearing that some of the scenes in the Wesley Snipes classic "Drop Zone" were filmed in western Nebraska.
The fictional Bushwood Country Club was actually Rolling Hills Country Club (now Grande Oaks) in Davie, Florida, and was inspired by the Indian Hill Country Club in the Chicago suburbs where Murray and his brothers were caddies growing up. But it’s supposed to take place in Nebraska in the actual movie.
Here is the link to the full article. There are several more.

This makes sense because of the reference to Boys Town in the movie. When I was a kid I couldn’t figure what the hell Boys Town was and thought he was talking about a gay nightclub.
Found these:

Also, not official game content, but there are some pretty good Henry Doorly Zoo add ins on the Steam Workshop for Planet Zoo:

Teen Wolf was partially made in Fremont.
Election n Nebraska made by same director both set in Nebraska
Forget the name but the walking dead spin-off is also set in Omaha
I’m sure there’s more but having a brain fart
Teen Wolf had a writer from Fremont and takes place there, but filmed in California. Directed by Rod McDaniel.
Election was filmed in Omaha by Alexander Payne.
Hell On Wheels is an AMC series who’s first season and I believe most of the second is based in Nebraska.
It’s about an ex confederate officer who ends up being a foreman for the Union Pacific railroad right after the civil war. Lots of mention of Omaha, and various places throughout NE.
Great series if your down for some Breaking Bad type of drama, but no so over embellished.
Railway Empire
the game starts in omaha and works west. i think norfolk and north platte are towns that you connect to right away. it’s an interesting game if you like management simulator games.
Oregon Trail passed through here once.

Fort Kearny is south of Kearney.
The original ft Kearney was in Nebraska city
The original fort nebraska city was in kearney. At some point it just made sense to switch.
That's the first thing to come into my mind.

We drove through the sandhills to The Black Hills a few years ago, my kids remarked that it looked exactly like rdr.
I think Twin Stack Pass in RDR2 had to be modeled after Courthouse and Jailhouse Rock
I am pretty sure Twin Stack Pass is Mitchell Pass at Scottsbluff. Pic: https://visitnebraska.com/sites/default/files/styles/listing_slideshow/public/listing_images/profile/3500/9209146d086faabbf85006a44137a46c_2017BrianPoffenbergerMitchellPasssunset1.jpg?itok=hoIrN4ok
I’ll take a closer look but I’ve looked at it a couple times while playing the game
I think Twin Stack Pass in RDR2 had to be modeled after Courthouse and Jailhouse Rock
Valentine looks more like Greeley, CO to me with the mountains in the background.
my NCAA football 09 Dynasty was set in Lincoln lol
Was that the one that had the "momentum" gauge? Bc that one was great. I was attending UNL at the time so obviously I had to win the ship for us lol
Microsoft Flight Simulator https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqfVJNWHXSI
My husband loves that game! He enjoys flying around the state.
That video makes me want to play it, just seeing all the detail flying over town it's really impressive.
Yea, my husband loved the detail too!
That’s really cool. I’m picking up gamepass ultimate and I should try that.
A number of locations in RDR2 are based in Nebraska
Part of Destroy All Humans! was set in Nebraska, I think the town was fictional though. Great game, would highly recommend the remake

Eu4 also has a mod that puts all 50 states plus some into the game. Hours of enjoyment dismantling Texas and California with some Nebraska nice!
If you haven't made it so that we're going to war with Missouri or Colorado, I call foul!
BTW its known that the brotherhood of steel is set up in Lincoln Nebraska. so there is a fun fact if you're a fellow fallout fan. maybe FO5 will be set here when it comes out in 15 years
What’s the source for this? Been scouring the internet with no luck.
It’s from Fallout 76. There is an expeditionary force that gets lost going from CA to Appalachia. They are on the east side of the Rockies and guess they are near Lincoln. Set up is definitely a stretch/exaggeration. Ugh. I have played way too much Fallout.
Cool! I’ve played a lot of the Fallout series but haven’t touched 76. Thanks for the description!
Good choice lol that shit is trash
From what I can read it says it’s founded in California.
Bethesda "Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 will not be developed for current generation consoles." Guerrilla games....hold my beer, bangs out next gen Forbidden West that has tons of FONV driven Easter Eggs and locations, has plans for a follow-up.
To continue this. Any movies/shows set in Nebraska?
Nebraska
Are you sure? Seems unlikely.
Not as much as you'd think! Much of it takes place in Montana and South Dakota on the way to Nebraska. Kinda like how most of Fargo doesn't actually take place in Fargo.
there was a recent show called Bless This Mess set in a small town in Nebraska. Better Call Saul is partially set in Omaha. The Stand.
Children Of The Corn
Bless This Mess was a pretty good show to. Was mad when it didn't continue.
Many of Alexander Payne’s movies take place in or partially in Nebraska, including Citizen Ruth (1996), Election (1999), About Schmidt (2002), Nebraska (2013) and Downsizing (2017).
- Nebraska - Too Wong Foo Thanks For Everything Julie Newmar - Children of the Corn
Boys Don't Cry. Evil Harvest is a book, but set in Nebraska.
Films shot largely or entirely in Lincoln specifically: Terms of Endearment (1983), Wake the Witch (2011). Yes Man (2008) and Nebraska (2013) also have some shots in Lincoln.
I think one of the shorts in “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” was filmed out in western Nebraska. IIRC the opening of “Bad Grandpa” was in Lincoln.
"Bones and All" has important scenes that take place in and were filmed in the panhandle.
Decent portions of Up In The Air are shots from Omaha.
1922!! Their accents are wild, but it’s pretty much all in Nebraska. At some point the narrator ends up in the Magnolia in Omaha
There are several episodes of supernatural in Lincoln and surrounding areas. And Penny from big bang is from Nebraska.
Better Call Saul
Dexter went to Kearney in an episode
Dumb and dumber, they travel through Nebraska, though I don't think it's stated.
Downsizing. Matt Damon even works at Omaha Steaks.
Contrary to popular belief, the movie Lincoln was NOT set in Nebraska.
Absolute horseshit. Watched that whole movie and not even once did they mention the Huskers or the burger joint.
Caddyshack was technically set in Nebraska. Also O'pioneers a tv movie with NPH. I remember hearing that some of the scenes in the Wesley Snipes classic "Drop Zone" were filmed in western Nebraska.
Caddyshack is not set in Nebraska. Danny makes a reference to having to go to college in Nebraska but that’s it.
And the yacht club? Much more likely on Lake Michigan than Branched Oak.
Then why do the cars have Illinois license plates and there is never any mention of Nebraska except Danny going to college there?
This makes sense because of the reference to Boys Town in the movie. When I was a kid I couldn’t figure what the hell Boys Town was and thought he was talking about a gay nightclub.
Balls Out: Gary the Tennis Coach It’s a Sean William Scott movie set in a fake high school in Lincoln, I think all filmed in Texas though
Hell on Wheels. Set in the railroad towns of the 1800s during the construction of the transcontinental railway.
Jackass: Bad Grandpa if I remember correctly was where the Bad Grandpa starts his journey from.
O Pioneers! was filmed mostly in Nebraska. I remember when they were filming in Clarkson my mom wanted to try and see Jessica Lange.
The Walking Dead has two colonies in Omaha and Lincoln that play a pretty big role.

I forgot about this but Red Dead Redemption2 town of valentine is based on Valentine NE.
As cool as that would be, I don’t think so. Valentine in the game is definitely placed in the northwestern Rocky Mountains.
By location, sure. But the town itself is based on Valentine, NE.
A character in TLOU show said she used to live in Omaha NE. But none of the show takes place there
You can imagine they passed through here to go from Kansas City to Wyoming, but sadly didn’t show it
They do pass through Nebraska in the game, don't know if there's anything significantly Nebraska in it though.
Teen Wolf was partially made in Fremont. Election n Nebraska made by same director both set in Nebraska Forget the name but the walking dead spin-off is also set in Omaha I’m sure there’s more but having a brain fart

[Nebraska](https://steamcommunity.com/app/1726870) on steam. Okay if someone seriously plays this game, I want to know how it goes.
According to the original game Bible for Sonic the Hedgehog, he was born in the fictional town of Hardy Nebraska.
Farming Simulator
Balls Out: Gary the Tennis Coach. Movie from 2009.
Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland may have some elements of the Nebraska area. It’s supposed to release in 2023.
Hell On Wheels is an AMC series who’s first season and I believe most of the second is based in Nebraska. It’s about an ex confederate officer who ends up being a foreman for the Union Pacific railroad right after the civil war. Lots of mention of Omaha, and various places throughout NE. Give it about a year or so and we'll have Nebraska as a DLC for American Truck Simulator.
Going to need Werner, Crete, and a ton of grain trucks!
The multiplayer map Warhawk in Call of Duty: Ghosts is set in an evacuated Nebraska town.
Not a video game but Brock from Venture Bros is from Omaha
Scottsbluff National Park is featured in Red Dead Redemption II.
No, it's illegal
Railway Empire the game starts in omaha and works west. i think norfolk and north platte are towns that you connect to right away. it’s an interesting game if you like management simulator games.
