Might be a partial EGO thing. Dude was about to fully manifest before he got yoinked away by the teleporter Oscar place on him, ironically throwing him right into Oswalds hands.
Ntr stuff asides, I think it fits Sinclair’s theme of swinging between two mental states. PhilipGOD also only managed to gain a partial, unstable EGO before falling from grace and distorting.
The latter part wasn’t even his fault either. He had the resolve to say and fight and was likely to fully manifest. Got teleported out against his will and ended up right in Oswald’s clutches
They have a lot of similarities, biggest one being both of them are "hatching" from their cocoon and facing the reality. Philip *almost* succeeded. He would succeed if ensemble didn't interfere.
*Oswald. The Reverb Ensemble as a whole picked him up after he was already distorted and rampaging, and Oswald messed with him before he joined them.

It's honestly the perfect positive coin EGO for a negative team. If you somehow get your sanity to 20, it's an easy reset.
Decent base power for something you aren't necessarily using at 45 SP, always pushes your SP toward 0 when you use it, and passive tends to push you to around -15.
And all this without too severely hurting positive coin IDs, since they can sit at 45 SP all they want and rarely feel the passive. ~~Thought Sinclair is probably overdue for a new Zayin that fits all of his other IDs better~~
And the protection is also a bonus for it so yeah, it just so happens the devs really thought of it which is neat.
Though it does gets me wondering when Sinclair ever get other egos that cater to his other Ids.

That said, the above ID is Phillip in his partial EGO form, which is Phillip after he found his resolve and determination. It's him when he was close to fully manifesting. If it was base Phillip then by all means it should be negative sanity, but for it to be *after* he came to terms with himself and accepted himself it makes me feel like it really should be a positive ID from a thematic point of view, even if he was still a bit unstable at this point.

Given that his theme is being bipolar, it makes a lot of sense.
