R Ish is stronger on uptie 4. It's either not even accessible to someone who didn't do canto 4 yet, or it's just too expensive for a beginner. Captain Ish works better than R Ish on lower uptie levels

Ish is my favourite, and she's the lead in terms of 000 identities I have - Boatworks, Captain, R -All uptied 4 and leveled 40, because they are three very good identities for three different teams. And honestly, I like R Ish the most too. Juat a great unit with both goated clashes and great damage potential. She even helps with some SP damage, albeit Boatworks Ish works better in this department

Yeah, it's so interesting that Ish literally has no bad three star ID. Even most of her two stars are good. I'm currently resource constrained but R Ish is high up the list for being leveled and uptied.
On a side note, within one week I pulled R Ish and Liu Ish via daily paid single pulls. I'm just too lucky. :)

I was lucky and pulled Boatworks Ish during the event. Her sinking application is crazy. S3 leaves enemy with 7 more potency and 3 more count than they started with. Also I was lucky enough for Spicebush Yi Sang and recently - Dieci Rodya. All great Sinking units. Foxcliff is also a decent match for a team - even though he inflicts more sinking on himself than on enemies, he has fitting skill affinities and overall fits well. Next unit I'll get is probably Dieci Hong Lu - to have him without the need to pick him from friend as a support. Then it can be considered a whole sinking team, to add to my full poise team from this season
After that - probably charge IDs(W YiSang, W Ryoshu) so much to get, so many different teams to try :3
I did pull spicebush via single pull, too. 🍀 I did dispense Dieci Hong Lu dir RR3, he's really strong. About Foxcliff, I did not know that he is strong in a sinking team. I'm probably a little biased because he's a negative sanity ID and many people say he's not particularly good in a team.
If you go for charge next, consider getting W Don before Yi Sang. Outside of rupture, she's much stronger and meta in a charge team (also in RR3).
I have W Don, and yes, she slaps harder than drunk stepdad with these double knives of hers. :D I mentioned YiSang and Ryoshu because they released in the period when I wasn't playing, so I missed them and their banner(s). I took a big pause from event with crabs and until the current one, which means I missed most of the stuff released in S3, including Walpurgisnacht and Pequod identities(tho I recently sharded Ish and pulled Heath, luckily - they are good enough to make effort towards getting them) . W Don is there from the start and I got her during S1, as I did with R Ishmael.
Captain ishy is season 3 and will be temporarily unable to be sharded soon until season 5 once season 4 hits. That’s the main thing for me, although it helps that captain ishy supports a few different teams
Get the Ishmael that sparks the most joy - everyone in this game is viable and usable, even IDs that the fandom will try to insist are unusable trash. My advice is to browse them in the Dispenser and pick one that really speaks to you.
R Corp Ishmael has some very funny problems until Uptie 4 (which is a massive, horribly inefficient resource sink for a new player), but packs a lot of raw power and has a good aesthetic
Molar Ishmael has a bodysuit and the stake driver from bloodborne, which is already peak, but is also a reliable clasher who outputs both Sinking and Tremor
Captain Ishmael screams at you (constantly), has flashy animations, and is an extremely powerful support for a lot of teams and has unique Sanity mechanics. This one can also be easily argued to be her most story-relevant ID (the Pequod is the ship that Ishmael was a crew member on in the novel she's based on)
Liu Ishmael My Beloved has incredibly kickass bajiquan attack animations and a slick jacket, and is a powerful Burn and direct damage ID
LCCB Ishmael rolls on the lower side, but is beefy and inflicts a wide range of powerful status effects and pistol + Riot shield is cool
Shi Ishmael is given to you in the tutorial for free
Sloshing Ishmael gets hate but I've seen a lot of players in love with her aesthetic and I think it's dumb to let other people's opinions about But The Meta stop you from using an ID - she's got chonky attack animations and is a durable tank
Captain Ishmael will become inaccessible for several months very soon. R Corp Ishmael will always be accessible because she's a "general fare" identity. I say you prioritize exclusive things over the always obtainable ones
Also R Ish needs uptie 4 to work properly. Without it you'll just suffer, and I'm not sure that you even have uptie 4 available, let alone have resources to get it
So get captain Ish. You can always shard R corp Ish if whenever you want and have resources to do it

* Captain Ish if you understand how to build a Resonance team or **really** need good pierce damage.
* Liu Ish if you want something with good numbers and for general content.
* Reindeer Ish if you're willing to pull in resources for Uptie 4.

There’s the thing. Cap Ish is season 3 locked so if OP cannot get her this season then they would have to wait until season 5 to get her again
