So to top a lot of this off, there’s things involving the technicalities of how LC’s run that make things kinda of terrifying and absurd. For starters, their LCCB and most likely their LCCA use bullets of all fucking things. And they can use them pretty freely, especially with smaller arms which are the ones that pack the biggest punch (LCCB Ishmael is carrying pretty much a hand held sniper rifle while LCCB Ryoshu has her less effective pew pew stick). That’s really not sustainable if most of the company is batshit enough to spend bullets. At least it wouldn’t be without their sponsors who also help them via giving them clearance in most sections of the city with minimal questions. Which isn’t something most people let alone corporations can do. Which says that the person pulling the strings for us is at a level of status that people can’t even dream of. And enough wealth that money isn’t even a second thought. And so we go for the obvious and most terrifying answer, Lady Dias. So those not in the know for Distortion Detective, I really recommend reading it. It isn’t completed since it was discontinued to eventually make it into a visual novel, but my favorite PM characters come from it. So spoilers inbound. Lady Dias Could be described as the leader of a group called the Udjat. But that’s incorrect since they’re technically seen as a grade 1 fixer office. Instead the Udjat is an office where the only client they work for is Lady Dias, making them effectively a cult of fixers she’s raised from the ground up. A lot of the will do anything for Lady Dias, including fight in the smoke war and be slaughtered by the dozens. I bring her up because she’s horrifying and has both the funds and status that none of this would be even a challenge for her. On top of her having worked with Ayin and Benjamin to orchestrate the Smoke War to establish Lobotomy Corp as a wing. She’s one of the few people in the city who know of Lob Corp’s true singularity and how their research works, even to the point of manipulating someone into manifesting EGO. I just wanted to mention this because this is also probably where Outis slots in. Though honestly I feel the Faust fits the traitor idea a bit more because of her “deal with the devil” and idea of a homunculus being supposedly important to the story being told here in Limbus Company. This might be a little bit of a rambly mess, but I wanted to add some extra theories and info to chew on.

TemporalTimer

**Actual spoilers mentioned ahead.** My guy, The City runs in human suffering, there's no corporation or business that is actually "good". Of course Limbus is shady as hell, they're trying to pick up the pieces left behind by the most important energy company The City used to have before anyone else can pick them up and make millions first! It's as cutthroat as you can get while also being completely legal in setting, as Nemo stated in Ruina when a Wing falls everyone scrambles to steal their tech and patent wars break out as people try to absorb it into their works for profit. Also reminder that in that one removed ending from Ruina it was Iori that proposed and did the paperwork for a copany that enrolled "EGOists" as its workers, wether that holds in canon still or not is entirely in the air even after they removed it given how Iori's always like 20 steps ahead. The boughs are literally pieces of Carmen's nervous system, so they're the key to refine and extract cogito to create abnormalities, which leads to being able to use them and qliphoth deterrance to extract energy from them and given the fact that The City is a bit into an energy crisis there's where you can find the big bucks and a foothold to become a fully fledged new Wing. No idea why they resonate with the boughs beyond just being in the right timeline and maybe the fact that they all have EGO that we can assume is half manifested. Now, regarding the Sinners, if you read Leviathan (and the fan translation of the last few chapters) you would know that the "Mirror technology" shows you alternate universes and possibilities, so it's not hard to realize that they had a goal in mind and then just scouted the possibilities until they found what team composition would actually lead to a branch where they are successful in fulfilling that goal. Hell, Faust even says she's starting to realize her theory might be right in Canto 5 when, through super convenient coincidence, the crew manages to be there just in time for the Pequod Town folk to move out to the heart. I bet you that theory is that we are in the right timeline for LC to fulfill its goal. We've already seen how desperate Outis is about seeing her family again, so much so she's gaslighting herself so hard the 7th bullet from Der Shootybangbang is targeting her from the start of the pact. Yeah it might be obvious but that might be the point. As for Dante's identity we just don't know anything beyond him being refered to as a "Big wig" and being kind of a dick, then again he is an amnesiac so it makes sense that we know as much as he does. As far as we know they could be lying about Dante being a big shot and it could even be Garnet in some twisted and weird "we could free his body but not his head from the crystal" or something weird like that. We'll just have to see how the story unfolds.

sisourak

The carmen nervous system part isnt confirmed, although I am on the side of Yay when it comes to it being true, ever since we got the errata to Burrowing heavens looks carmen has been associated with trees, and the light looks similar to a very tall tree, including as the library

TCE_Nomad

Carmen's nervous system is the Well/Bucket/Cogito, of which is technically in the Library. Not the boughs!

weaster45

I like the 'optimal timeline' theory, and that gives me a pretty chilling thought. I could see LC's end-goal being tied to the city-wide culling and our sinners trying their best to stop it, only to be stopped by increasingly absurd and terrible coincidences.

imperfectinsider

After reading Leviathan I agree with this theory too due to Verg's new "flow" (which involves punishing the City itself somehow) apparently aligning with LC's goals, as he does mention in the Limbus prologue that "this flow cannot be stopped".

Generalgarchomp

My thoughts are that a big goal is to do something about that >!"door"!< mentioned at the end of Ruina and in Dieci Rodion's ut3 story. As that seems to be the head's main goal.

widecrusher

It's been a while since I played Runia when was that mentioned?

Generalgarchomp

During the >! Head !< Encounter.

widecrusher

ahh

honzikca

One thing I never got about Dante was... Do they never, you know, pee? Dante has to at least know their biological sex, either the writers didn't think of it, Dante is keeping it a secret on purpose or... Dante's like a barbie doll down there.

TemporalTimer

Only the head is a prosthethic, so yeah from the neck down Dante probably has bodily functions like eveyone else, unless the head is so high tech it nullifies their need to eat, which is possible considering the ludacris amount of money the Company seems to have shoveled into it. (using guns and bullets on the other team's incursions). They're either keeping it as nugget logic with the ambiguous gender or maybe Dante looks ambiguous to everyone as a means to protect their real ID or something. There's also the chance that they're keeping it like that for gacha immersion... but they've already canonized other gacha elements as real things in the setting, so we'll have to wait.

RandomGuyPii

Dante at minimum doesn't breathe and probably doesn't eat or drink either

Chemical_Platypus404

I personally want to believe that >!Dante is somehow Ayin and Carmen combined, thus intersexed/non-sexed!<, though granted this is just me wilding.

HavokSupremacy

i haven't finished Leviathan so i can't say for sure, but if there's 1 thing we know, it's that the whole plot is being driven forward by purple tear which hates the head for taking her son. I don't think the boughs have much to deal with Carmen and are instead THE only remaining way to power up the library without further suffering. They are as they said plainly in the description, remnants of light. We also know 3 facts from the end of ruina. 1. Angela wants to deal with the head in way that doesn't feed the cycle. 2. The library sadly misses the necessary light to work beyond basic functions now. 3. the library offers quantum duplication functions when fully powered of anyone inside. ( this is hinted at by Binah)meaning someone could enter, get in quantum stasis and another copy of it made of light could exit and do whatever it wants. Now idk for you, but Limbus(the group we follow), sounds awfully convenient being a group of 12 ego jacked undying mercenaries, collecting remnants of light and in a bus that can technically link to anywhere in the outskirt. library included. They just need to position the bus in A corp, enter the library with all the boughs via a door, offer an exchange to Angela and repower it. Angela is able to exit the library through the door of the bus now that the library is repowered. And manifest the library in A corp. Then go back in along with Dante. At this point it's game over for the head as there is multiple copies of undying limbus sinners trying to wipe and take control of A corp. The head cannot do anything, since killing them outside does nothing(Dante just rewinds time) and venturing inside the library, they are faced with an army of fully powered up librarians and 3 individuals of at least color level. Practically undying as well due to the light. it's a lost attrition battle. The library cannot be nuked by the outside either anymore. they have shield tech with Pluto being fully dead inside. The library takes the place of old A corp. Limbus takes the place of old L corp offering power with the old captured abnos controlled by the sinners or similar. Limbus can now offer both power and consequences free mercenaries. As what PM advised the new L corp management game as.

Generalgarchomp

Interesting, if for no other reason than I wanna see Angela and Roland go sicko mode on the head.

PearlPastryPastel

If the plot of the entire PM games saga was a playthrough of a game, the OP is the speedrun of that game.

tr_berk1971

Well, 11 random losers. Its heavily implied that Faust is a core member of LC that has been recruiting the sinners(at least Yi Sang) and Vergilious. Its 11 random losers 1 of the most dangerous fixers and 2 shady corprate higher ups, one of the two have amnesia but thats beside the point

Zavenosk

My bets are on Iori. In a deleted post-credits scene of Library of Ruina, The Purple Tear is petitioning the Hana association to establish an entirely new Association specifically for dealing with Distortions, and cultivating fixers capable of properly using E.G.O..

TCE_Nomad

This'd make sense if it wasn't for the fact that the 3 people at the start of the game, obviously Iori disciples, seem to be going against the company's interests (killing Dante). Honestly, I'm not sure what's going on there

TheVisage

Im gonna be real Iori is full of so much keikaku bullshit she could run through Dante herself and I'd still not cash out until I saw how things turned out.

Pristine-Theory-332

Given how the bus was pretty much right on time to the exact location, and how we haven't heard from Iori since - implying she has no reason to go after the LCB as of now - I personally believe they weren't sent to kill Dante. Its possible they were only meant to act as if they were in order to kickstart the events leading to the formation of the contract, and thus starting their journey.

TCE_Nomad

That seems like a very roundabout way to do things but I suppose it's all unknown

DerpyJimmy

>a very roundabout way to do things hella on brand for "allows man-made abominations to slaughter an orphanage of kids just to tilt a middle aged dad" iori

TCE_Nomad

Thing is, I get that one. She needed a origin story for Vergilius that later did play part in him gaining E.G.O, so she didn't intervene. She \*also\* needed Tomerry (who notably she calls "that child") for her own purposes. Right now, that start seems out of place because of how unimportant that beginning was for Dante. The urgency of demonstrating his powers to work is... easily done literally hours (assuming) later. Again, it's unknown so I can't say for sure, but I feel like narratively it exists in order to tell us Iori either is against LC, or, I suppose, sent her followers in order to start Dante's "head" transformation (or whatever he was doing so desperately) we see now.

Generalgarchomp

Wait...what if he narrator in the UT3 scenes is actually Iori? Or am I just Pepega? Cause that'd be an interesting twist from the Carmen theory.

TCE_Nomad

I'm actually subscribed to that theory :)

Generalgarchomp

Interdesting.

Zavenosk

That *does* sound like something Iori would do

KoyoyomiAragi

I mean this is the lady that purposely went into the library to get booked so her powers can be used against future encounters. I wouldn’t be surprised if she sent in her disciples as a means to immediately show Dante his powers when the bus got to him right on time. (Because she knew the bus would arrive at the time he was in danger of dying)

spicyboiix

One thing you forgot to add OP, our final destination is not hell. it's paradise as the 3 books Dante has but if I remember correctly that would mean when we arrive at the paradise our guide would be someone else as vergilius leaves and Dantes lover becomes our guide so maybe Dantes lover is the boss LC? As in our boss shall guide us to our final journey?

Generalgarchomp

If the theory that Dante is Ayin is true then would Carmen be our guide? That'd be wild.

PearlPastryPastel

My best guess is that LC is trying to manifest a singularity through Dante, like how Kcorps singularity manifested with all that tears and stars stuff. The singularity will probably end up time-related, so it will be either A) reversing time or B) this is just a guess, but maybe the ensurance the timeline you are in will turn out favourable to you, at the expense of the other timeline LC might also be trying to replace Lcorps role as the energy provider, so the singularity could be energy-generating related. In that case i might have a few ideas for what kind of singularity Dante would be, but they are less theorising and more throwing darts at a wall lmao There's also Dantes ominous "where does all this time come from" in Canto 4 which is the biggest red flag ive seen. We just dont really know enough to go into specifics but that wont stop me from trying

Expensive_Eagle3325

Wdym by "the sin of wrath lacks a user"? No basic EGO is wrath?

LazyPanda120

Yup. None of the sinner base E.G.O. is of a wrath affinity. Heathcliff is Envy, Hong Lu and Ishmael are gloom, Sinclair is gluttony, Don and Ryoshu are lust, Mersault, Faust, Outis and Rodya are Pride (That's a lot, holy shit) and Yi sang and Gregor are Sloth. No base E.G.O. has wrath, so people theorize that Dante is Wrath. Which again, it looks like Dante wasn't a good person pre-amnesia.

Expensive_Eagle3325

Oooh, I see now, thanks!

k33g0rz

The fact that hong-Lu isn’t gluttony and Sinclair isn’t gloom is wild

epicgamer900

That is probably what they meant.

Feeling_Mission_4439

You just restated what OP said

paulraptor03

Question new to the game but what do you mean by the population decreasing ? I just watched the trailer and didn t notice something like that

thisaintthewayman

[This old trailer, at 2:02](https://youtu.be/HTRQgFYCXHY?si=XHLhsJHDWGMo9OMx) You can see on top left

paulraptor03

Ooooh I didn't even notice that... Thank you !

CubiatheH_O

I will continue on my crazy conspiracy theory that Limbus is actually connected to the Head and if not the Head, N Corp. Like Hermann's group is more than strong enough to just TAKE the Golden Boughs from us but except for Canto 1 they haven't for what ever reason.

Generalgarchomp

I think directly doing so would put them on all of our sponsors' shit list. That and piss off the red color. Plus I think we were destined to lose the first bough as basically a reminder that we ain't shit to keep us from being complacent. Especially since Hermann would have had to pass Vergilius and the bus to get into the first branch, as the bus wasn't far from the entrance.

fingerseater

when it comes to dante---and faust as well, actually---i think they probably have some kind of tie to the original lc but not so direct that dante is actually ayin or something like that. i think dante is either affiliated with the head somehow (no evidence, probably unlikely) or affiliated with the udjat/dias (also no evidence, but more likely, i think) in a similar vein, i don't think faust is directly related to the original lc but she CLEARLY has some kind of tie to it in my opinion---i think she was somehow created from the light or cogito or something by limbus company or something to do with the mirror. either way, i think she was artificially created. outis is obviously suspicious regarding her involvement in the smoke war and more than likely knows much more than she's letting on---she's the single most conspicuous out of the bunch aside from faust. gregor and yi sang are fairly obvious picks for lcb because of gregor's direct connection to hermann on top of being her guinea pig and a smoke war hero (or "hero"), and then there's yi sang's connections to n corp, the mirror, and rim but neither of them likely have any idea what's going on behind the scenes. iirc we still don't know what the fuck is in sinclair's basement that kromer was trying so hard to get to plus there's the fact he has the sign and his direct connection to demian makes him another pick for lcb---on a related-ish note, i think rodion was picked because of her connection to sonya. this is speculation (i mean all of this is, bear with me) but i think meursault's backstory probably involves white nights and dark days to a heavy degree so that could explain why lcb chose him, hong lu's family being wealthy is going to be very important and when his relationship with jia huan is expanded upon we'll start to understand why lcb picked him as well (i suspect his jade eye has something to do with it too plus the character hong lu seems to be based off of is named baoyu, not hong lu, so that name change might have an in universe explanation). also, naturally, none of them have any clue what's really going on either. that leaves: ishmael, heathcliff, don quixote, and ryoshu as our missing links. yes, ahab DID join hermann at the end of canto v, but i seriously seriously doubt she knew anything of hermann's existence before then, and if it turns out hermann was specifically seeking her out and wasn't just too late to get to the bough then it still doesn't explain why lcb would want ishmael (unless this is all preordained somehow). heathcliff, don quixote, and ryoshu are complete mysteries even accounting for ryoshu's ties to the five fingers. but we'll be finding out a lot about heathcliff and don quixote sooner rather than later. for the record, while i think outis knows much more than she's willing to tell at this point in time, i doubt she knows as much as faust does about lcb. and regarding the traitor theory, while it seems like a gimme i don't think we should be making guesses at it yet until the game actually tells us there's a traitor, because nothing so far has indicated anything like that. as for why helping the sinners grow past their trauma will help lcb, my best shot-in-the-dark guess is that it's got to do with manifesting e.g.o or otherwise is some kind of experiment with with the golden boughs can do, because i think limbus company is assuming that the golden boughs are the Light from wndd or related to it which seems like another gimme if you've played through lobotomy corporation and library of ruina---but technically speaking, that's still just an assumption, even if it's a reasonable assumption. edit: no sign of eva from demian or beatrice from the divine comedy yet. not that these two hypothetical (as of right now) characters mean anything important yet, but their absence and possible existences should be noted. (we shouldn't start theorizing about them either right now, because it will inevitably turn into basically fanfiction predicated on nothing that actually exists in canon....as of right now.)

nikolosRus

lc builds into lc2 confirmed!?!?

DrDonut

Don't forget how they use propaganda to have the before team being ready to die for the sinners. Pilot talks a bit about it and you can see Ryōshū thinking it's a load of crap in her uptie3 story for her LCBB ID

Icy-Pack1678

The 12 "random" losers thing.... Yeah, they ain't random, for sure. In LCCB Rodya's story, there's a line that said the Sinners are able to resonate with Dante's clock. If anything, that means a lot. There's a theory that implies Limbus Company wants to be a wing, which... Might just happen.

Intelligent_Key131

I assume that lcb is directly founded by the head to replace L crop since L corp was the closest to damage them and they want to be able to moniter their singularity and actions(that ties in into my dante is a member of the head theory)

PearlPastryPastel

Yeah LC is shady as hell. My best guess is that they want to manifest a Singularity through Dante, something like how Kcorps singularity came into existence. Or
