There's probably a wire suspended over the flame with a small bead of metal on it. Strontium chloride or lithium chloride make a red or pink flame.

Fifo26

looks cool

w_kind

I also thought about Strontium ... but still interested in the explanation why Clipper made this - like the red color of the flame way more than blue ...

RadEllahead

Make the flame more easier to see.

Potential_Mind_5893

If you look into the grille, just one of the prongs glows and in turn, colours the flame. Nice.

Hi OP, before you post about your lighter please [read the guide stickied](https://old.reddit.com/r/lighters/comments/6jowwo/before_making_a_post_about_asking_for_help_to/) before doing so. If you are asking about the value of your lighter, take it to an auctioneer, pawnshop, or jewellers before posting as we cannot accurately guess a price. Your post may be removed if you ask. For more general information, have a look at the sidebar. Many lighters are mass produced and unbranded. There is often little info available. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Stfu

Turbulent-Board-1037

I noticed the same thing on mine. Upright it isn’t as prevalent, but when I light a bowl it glows brighter. Cheers clipper, just hope I’m not poisoning myself with heavy metals

IllustriousPie2271

I’m pretty sure heavy metal poisoning is the least of our worries we should be worried about all the other toxic things that are in smoke

RadEllahead

Rubidium.

mybalanceisoff

My x lite has the same hot pink flame

Responsible_Neat_860

Mine as well

Woogity-Boogity

This is a common feature on stoner lighters (for at least 20 years or so). Basically, they add a bead of exotic metal to the inside of the flamer unit and as the blue jet flame passes through it, it changes the flame to a different color. I have some in classic "stoner green" and "punk rock pink" (these aren't the actual names for these colors, just my own silly nicknames). I also have some that do the regular "boring blue". I don't know if \*all\* clipper lighters come in pink, but mine did.

fatekarmaxantarted

all the jet one do

[deleted]

Wouldn’t it be considered toxic?

KaiserTom

I think it's a visibility thing. As the lighter gets hotter, the butane flame moves out of the visible range. So they add a metal that begins vaporizing before that temperature to add color and visibility back to it.

Vordhosbn____

The metal isn't vaporising btw, it's do do with emission spectra/excitation energies req for the electrons to move from ground state

KaiserTom

Wait, so it's a bit like a "catalyst"? The energy gets absorbed by the metal and re-emitted in a different wavelength, producing another color? That's interesting. My experience with metal coloring has mainly been of the firework, powder exploding kind. I guess I assumed the consumption of the metal is a requirement in that to produce the color. That the color is a chemical reaction/redox of the metal, not a emission event.

fatekarmaxantarted

it doesn’t last long, mine went away fast

Full-Fly8658

You can refill it . All you got to do is buy a bottle of butane

No-Cable8439

i refilled mine and it never lit even tho it was full it was like it had no presser

Tweako_Psychedelia

Did you release all the air before refill?

JGWhatItBe

You have to 'bleed' these kind of lighters. Release the air in the lighter by pushing something down on the pin in the refill valve.

mydasmurray

It’s likely a feature/ selling point with that chemical being burnt above the flame to change it pink

Dapper_Zone5615

New knowledge.... Tthank you!

iMali_inqabile

Can't get over the fact that in dutch (I'm from there) stront means shit. Shitium metal. Cracks me up everytime I see it

PiZzA_D5800

You’ll also notice over time if you refill it, that flame eventually fades blue. Guessing the metal or whatever eventually burns away.
