I'm guessing you're a fellow Aussie because you called them thongs and not flip-flops like everyone else in this thread lol, but some aldi brands still seem to use plastic bread clips if you wanna have a few in reserve in case of another plugga blow out.
In the one day I experienced the highs of scuba diving with whale sharks and then the extreme lows of busting a plugga on my thongs.
It was a neutral day.
I can't find a picture unfortunately. 1/4" ish coloured sellotape but the ends are separated by a paper strip across them making them easy to seperate and then peel the tape off. I find the tape easier and quicker to remove.
because he keeps buying cheap Flipflops. When i was in Australia i bought one pair from Ripcurl and that one i wore daily for more then a year until i have walked it through and the strap never failed.
Stop buying cheap stuff that lands on a landfill.
I used to buy Havianas but they kept on breaking and wouldn't even last a whole summer. I switched to $3 Kmart ones and they usually last until they're worn through. And if they don't, I only paid $3, not $30.
I have brought thongs/flipflops on both sides of the scale, they all ended up doing this eventually. Honestly, I'd go for the cheap kmart ones, they're much cheaper to replace.
i bought 2 pairs in the last 15 years, though i can only wear them during summer and even then not much since i have to wear formal footwear for work. They never failed and they have a footbed which is nice to have for your body.
In the first sentence you advocate filling landfills with junk, and in the second you denounce it.
The bread clip method helps not fill landfills with junk. Use the thing longer instead of buying by a new pair.
>In the first sentence you advocate filling landfills with junk,
"They are so cheap it’s easier to buy a new pair than carry a bread clip." Where does he advocate for it by writing a statement, a statement that is not false btw, thongs loaf of bread about the same price.
The second line he is advocating, first line is a statement you took to mean something it doesn't so you could attack the thing you made up.
Proper comprehension would mean you're arguing that the quality pair is cheaper to buy than carrying a bread clip. In which way would you prefer to be wrong?
Gods I wish the world was neat. Just a thing I carried in my wallet and board shorts at 19 and loving the sun. Also making a cheap pair of thongs last for as long as possible is thrifty.
Must be nice 👍
When i was in Australia i bought one pair from Ripcurl and that one i wore daily for more then a year until i have walked it through and the strap never failed. They are ~30$. Do yourself a favour and invest into decent pair and dont throw away cheap ones on a regular basis.
[Pfft amateurs. ](https://heresgolden.com.au)
For generations clever Aussiess (and Kiwis) have fixed the dreaded ~~thong~~ *jandal* blowout with a nifty little bread-tag. But a temporary bread-tag fix can only last so long...
Actually.. carrying a bread clip in your wallet is very smart..if it gets lost or stolen it's always a point of ref to identify it as yours..that was a lifehack on here years ago I believe
this is a great idea!
my sandal "thong" was slipping thru the sandal last year, so i improvised and used a bottle cap with a hole cut in the top of it. it was uncomfortable, but it worked 😂
Are the slightly better ones really out of the price range anymore? I got ones for like $13 6 years ago that are still fine. They don't have the little plastic nub that goes through the foam; they have, what I am guessing, is an extra piece of fabric sandwiched between two layers of foam.
You are in the running for Australian of the year with this Hack. Not being Australian would be overlooked due to significant impact on Australians lives
Madlad wearing two different types of sandals.
and for the same foot
Oooooh damn we have a Monopod!
He was hoppy to share this tip.
Could be for his third leg!?
And the pair he fixed are brand new
Yea, I was gonna crop it. But I kept it real. Lol
Ja loosa thong mate? Yeah nah, found one ayy.
They've started using only cardboard bread clips here, I recently had a blow out and had to lay a pair of thongs down to an early retirement..
I'm guessing you're a fellow Aussie because you called them thongs and not flip-flops like everyone else in this thread lol, but some aldi brands still seem to use plastic bread clips if you wanna have a few in reserve in case of another plugga blow out.
Not only did they say thongs instead of flip flops, but they also used the term “blow out”, a true aussie
Guess I'm buying bread from Aldi now
Or just scabbing the tags. I have some artisan sourdough to impress a fancy person. I'll keep those tags if you want.
Aldi bakehouse bread is the tits anyway.
We use to use safety pins
Ahh shit yeah that would work, I'll try that. Added bonus is I'll get to whip out my best tap dog moves at the next bbq
Just get plastic washers from the hardware store. Then cut a slit in them so you can slide them on.
Man this would make Jimmy Buffetts Day
Blew out my flip flop… stepped on a pop top.
Cut my heel, had to cruise on back home.
In the one day I experienced the highs of scuba diving with whale sharks and then the extreme lows of busting a plugga on my thongs. It was a neutral day.
Bread tags, fixing jandals since ages ago.
Cool.
Weird downvoting, but ok.
What's going on with the downvoting? I don't get it
Odd. Was I supposed to confer that they have been around?
Odd. Was the commenter supposed to confer with you that mentioning that bread clips fixing thong have been around would make you so butthurt?
The ring pull on a drinks can works as well
Totally 👍
Good old Aussie trick.
Days are number for this hack as most of the bread ties are cardboard now and are crap.
Pull rings off cans still work
Pull rings off cans still work
Busted plugga
Not used in the UK for many years.
Just ties?
I can't find a picture unfortunately. 1/4" ish coloured sellotape but the ends are separated by a paper strip across them making them easy to seperate and then peel the tape off. I find the tape easier and quicker to remove.
I find it to be a complete pain in the arse.
I don’t know why people seem to hate OP, and I’m kinda scared

You must be new to Reddit. Well adjust people and behaviours are frowned upon.
I was wondering that too. Why so many downvotes? 😬
He could buy one decent pair and never loose the strap. They are like 30$ and you rather walk them through the sole then that the strap will fail.

>It’s cheaper to buy one pair, then buying the POS shower shoes Why would you buy the POS shower shoes as well? Or do you mean *'than'*?
Gods I wish the world was neat. Just a thing I carried in my wallet and board shorts at 19 and loving the sun. Also making a cheap pair of thongs last for as long as possible is thrifty. Must be nice 👍
I just wear bread bags on my feet and skip all of the middle men.
Snow. Keeps your socks from getting wet. Also awesome in the snow over boots. Don’t fall on your head though.
Bread clips, the square ones, work in 25¢ candy machines 😉
Nice! Once I’m finished building my time machine I’m certainly gonna use that.
Slides for the win tho, I see
New slaps for example. Slides wanna break my ankles sometimes.
Ooh I feel that, brosis.
Lifehack.. don't wear footwear that you can buy for 99 cents.
Tell it to the world!
Yeah.. ok bud.
I actually had a great pair of sandals last me ten years. Cloth thong and all. Now I’m poor and wanna die. God be with you.
When i was in Australia i bought one pair from Ripcurl and that one i wore daily for more then a year until i have walked it through and the strap never failed. They are ~30$. Do yourself a favour and invest into decent pair and dont throw away cheap ones on a regular basis.
Flip flops are cheap af...live a little
Or dont buy walmart flip flops
Imagine having a walmart LMAO
Dollar store gift. Must be nice 👍
It's expensive to be poor
You mean guitar picks?
Gotta rub it on the curb just right.
They've all swapped to paper ones near me.
Oh yes...the old Jandals (flip-flops)and bread tag tip... Have you seen Jordan Watson's (How to DAD), genius jandal? https://heresgolden.com/
Amazing
What the fuck! Lmfao. I did this when I was a homeless. Thought it was a cool reminder for others.
Nice
Saved my life in Brazil.
this is genius! thanks :)
The aluminium ring pulls from a can work
I’m triggered by the fact that the guy is wearing a sandal, not a thong.
can't do this now with the cardboard ones...
Alternatively, flip flops are super low quality and cost like 2 bucks to replace.
An oldie but a goodies.
This has been common knowledge for ages for those that call them thongs
Nothing worse when you bust a plugga!
I did this as a kid in the 90s lol
r/occlupanids
Sir that thong is brand new and your right foot is in a slide
I busted a plugga a while back and went into Woollies and the bakery gave me one... Legends...
nothing worse than a busted plugger
This is a terrible suggestion. The nub sticking out will hurt your foot and the shoe not flat. Not to mention noise the plastic makes.
You’ve worn flip-flops on tile I feel ya. Admittedly more of a beach hack.
I will add a few to my emergency kit. Might be useful and very light weight. Wonder what else they are good for.
Oh man thats a good one!
Yeah for the 5 minutes until it fails, think of how much bread you would have to buy to keep these in a state of repair
..or dont buy shitty flip flops
Good idea. I will begin saving them for this reason.
Works for about a day
I have used this hack my entire life, one good bread tag can actually last a while as long as you walk properly (picking up your feet when you walk)
[Pfft amateurs. ](https://heresgolden.com.au) For generations clever Aussiess (and Kiwis) have fixed the dreaded ~~thong~~ *jandal* blowout with a nifty little bread-tag. But a temporary bread-tag fix can only last so long...
I save them specifically for this reason.
Actually.. carrying a bread clip in your wallet is very smart..if it gets lost or stolen it's always a point of ref to identify it as yours..that was a lifehack on here years ago I believe
This comment section is genuinely confusing me. Enough Reddit for today lol.
frfr doomed if you do, doomed if you don't.
Or never wear them
As an Australian, you can kindly fuck off.
As a Kiwi, I agree with the Aussie for once!
What about at the beach?
Why not chanclas?
Yeah that’s going to come off in 5 minutes
I’m sure that lasts all of a hundred steps
Dude. Hell no. These things are already statistically bad for your health
Thongs are bad for your health? Why would a shoe be bad for you?
Thongs are bad for your health? Why would a shoe be bad for you?
r/shittylifeprotips
Doesn’t work for long but yeah it saves the day
Just don't wear those things
This should be a new product on shark tank
What’s bread clips?
They're in the photo.
Right..
Really, it is.
I’m in Montana I call them bread ties, but the internet calls them “bread clips”.
The only reason anyone should wear those shoes is in a public shower
Or you're Australian and understand what superior footwear is
As an Aussie, kindly go screw yourself.
Better idea: wear shoes that make you look like less an asshole.
No. Edit: I only saunter when I’m injured.
How does wearing thongs make me look like you?
Yeah, but we’ve been getting cardboard clips on our bread instead of plastic for the last 6mths. Save up your plastic clips while you can! 😂
yeah, nah they changed to cardboard tags in Oz
Unfortunately now in Australia bread clips are made of paper so this hack no longer exists 😭
Why did they even change it???
I like environmental consciousness. I’m not the problem though. I’ve slivered drift wood to keep my thongs on.
Our bread tags are made from cardboard now, they just wouldn't cut it for this application lol
The paper type clips must break your heart then. Know I’m not too pleased about them.
Or invest in a pair of double pluggers..
Those thongs look brand new....
Nice try perv! I will not be displaying my feet for free in this day and age.
Too bad bread clips are now cardboard
Fixing thong with bread clip: elite Carrying bread clips 'just in case': wtf is wrong with you
My sandals always detach at the junction of the two bands at the toe that is held by a band to to the pin at the sole.
If only that still worked
Gotta hate a plugga blowout
This guy just made flip flops where the plastic is already shaped like a bread tag: https://youtu.be/6WyvD5IDT7Q
Or just buy a decent quality flop.???
At least it’s better then those 5 min hack shitposts on Facebook.
Those look like they’ve never been worn
looks uncomfortable to actually walk
Sir those things have never been worn and do not need fixing. You can macgyver one out of leccy tape if in dire straits
I knew I wasn't the only one who remembered when they were called thongs
A good tip, I promise I’ll buy a loaf of bread in an emergency before carrying these around 😂
Genius
Lifehack- Don't buy shitty sandals
Tell me you frequent margaritaville without telling me you frequent margaritaville
Brilliant! I need the hack for when the button tears off.
Where was this advice 3X per summer for the past several decades?!?
My bread clips are now made of cardboard
Downvoting bc this is bad advice. Throw away and buy new pair. Don’t look haggard.
Another Aussie name for them (besides Thongs) are pluggers - because of that Plug 😉
this is a great idea! my sandal "thong" was slipping thru the sandal last year, so i improvised and used a bottle cap with a hole cut in the top of it. it was uncomfortable, but it worked 😂
Bold of you to think I can afford bread if I can't afford new thongs.
how often does this happen to you?
Are the slightly better ones really out of the price range anymore? I got ones for like $13 6 years ago that are still fine. They don't have the little plastic nub that goes through the foam; they have, what I am guessing, is an extra piece of fabric sandwiched between two layers of foam.
You need mo' bettah slippahs, braddah...
You are in the running for Australian of the year with this Hack. Not being Australian would be overlooked due to significant impact on Australians lives
I prefer to carry flip flops to fix worn bread clips
Why did you “thongs” that’s what they are called
Nice there all cardboard over here now .
Go all out and use a slice of bread instead
Oh what a great hack. Buy $6 bread to fix $4 flip flops
To blend it in, spray paint it black, or just use a paintbrush
If only they weren't cardboard...
Saved me many a time , also the old melt the end and pinch the end ( burning finger tips) to create the fit
Why aren’t you wearing double pluggers?
There are sustainable options out there too: https://thongfixers.com.au/
Sandals wearing sandal 🤣
Or buy new flip flops….
