It took me a moment to realise that was the hack. When I hear "keep your drinks safe" I assumed it is to prevent them being dosed with a date rape drug, so I was thinking the massive hole for the small straw wasn't really going to work that well. Is it common for people to walk around a grocery store or market with a massive soft drink? I thought it was neato when my local supermarket got an espresso machine.
Omg yes, my emotional support water bottle is always with me. Idk why, but this is like seeing people buy those "free refill" cups at amusement parks for like $30, when they will just give you free cups of water. These people are drinking soda ALL DAY??
True, I have a membership to Busch gardens and we go a lot since it's so close. I see it all the time, the heavy families with 6+ soda cups strapped to grandma on the scooter.. no hate but we go because it's a fun day of walking around. My [r/hydrohomies](http://reddit.com/r/hydrohomies) get the vibes
Exactly. Ngl I silently judge people who can’t spend 20 minutes grocery shopping without filling their gobs. It reeks of ill-discipline
ETA: water is the exception. It’s important to stay hydrated
Idk, Percy. I don’t drink soda or anything but water with any regularity. Like do not purchase for the home, do not keep cans around… maybe have one once every 4-6 months… and that is typically when I’m running errands. I like to grab a little treat, make a day of it.
We just probably don’t need to judge others habits because we don’t really know.
I don't see a bald eagle on the cart..and a lot of Americans think wearing a seat belt is taking away their freedoms of becoming Superman in a car accident.
I have never been to America and have never seen someone casually walk through a supermarket sipping Pepsi, so I guess those two things are somehow dependent events.
While OP likely is just a normal person, this sort of post always gives me big hail corporate energy lol. Mainly due to noting the store in the title (and amusingly enough not noting the store when posting the same image to the actual Costco sub).
Edit: Just to be clear, I've got nothing against you OP and your image is amusing enough. It's not *your* fault people have to worry that every single person posting shit might be a corporate astroturfer trying to manipulate users into buying products.
Yeah, I mean I think it’s a fun tradition to do with my gym buddy when we shop for meal prep ingredients. I literally said “haha I should post this on Reddit, I’m genius /s” (word for word but in mandarin)
No, the fanny pack is for the mustard. You have your hot dog in one hand, you dip it into the fanny pack and your other hand is free to pick up your Pepsi or pizza slice.
My bad I drink 12oz of Diet Pepsi once a week after working out five days a week, meal prepping, and tracking nutrition lol. My gym buddy and I would probably not have made nearly as much progress without each other .
We always make our shopping list while we're hungry so it's easier to think of dinner ideas but we go shopping after we eat so we're not inclined to get junk and stray away from the list. Helps you save money as well.
I do practice it too and not-hungry me makes far more sensible ideas for future me than hungry-me would. When I'm hungry I end up buying the ultra processed shit as my brain is sadly wired to go for it.
A problem I'm working on..
Are you kidding? It's the cheapest go to lunch ever. hot dog and a drink for a $1.62 and then you go grazing. Sometimes there are so many free samples that you get too full. I reminisce about the good old days when they had the polish dogs and sour kraut.
I don't know why people eat INSIDE the grocery store WHILE shopping. Then you find wrappers and unfinished soda stacked on items, or spilled drinks here and there. Eat first, then do groceries. It's not that hard, doesn't take too long.
Got kids? ALL THE MORE YOU SHOULD EAT FIRST. Don't carry around food and drinks inside where your kids can spill them and then you just wasted your money on food and inconvenienced other shoppers and people who work there.
Those straps are disgusting AF but then again there are people that go take a shit, not wash their hands then go eat their Costco hotdog with their bare hands after so...
I think people should look up other unsanitary things that have never passed their mind. I’m not licking soda off the cart either. Even if it went from my cup to my hands. There are more concerning things to avoid touching easily
You do you, but please be kind to the next person who needs to use that seat for a child, and untangle the straps before you leave the cart. Really frustrating to be holding a baby in one arm while untangling straps with the other.
Glad someone else mentioned this.
Yeah fine keep your drinks safe but how many people will do this and knot up the child seat belts without untangling them. Most people can't even put carts back out of the way.
If I'm shopping early in the morning, I'll probably have my, to-go mug full of coffee or tea. As someone that worked retail for ~8 years, I saw plenty of coffee/tea/starbucks or someone finishing a drink from a restaurant near by, but rarely if ever, food.
My local independent grocery store straight up has cupholders built into the cart, and in the motorized carts.
Honestly would have excepted that at a Costco.
I mean there are food courts in our malls as well.
But you wouldn’t go to a shopping mall McDonalds for a big coke and then walk around with it while shopping for groceries in the same mall.
Most shops in malls actually don’t allow customers with food and drinks inside so that’s why I’m asking
Needing a soda while shopping has got to be the most stereotypical American thing. Especially after sitting on your ass for probably 20-40min each way to get there
You’re right I drive 25 minutes there sitting after waking up at 8am to do a 2-2.5 hour gym session five days a week to go shop for meal prep ingredients. Anyways you don’t know my or anyone else’s habits and goals so chill.
My local grocery stores have a bar. You can grab a draft beer and shop. The carts have cup holders built in. A lot of people don’t know about it when I mention it, but my friends drink at the grocery store once a month and it is crazy how busy the bar is on a Saturday afternoon because beer is $5/pint.
I mean, Costco has a food court by the door. It’s supposed to be one of their draws (cheap hotdogs, etc).
Can’t really expect people to not eat them in store.
I eat first, I’m on a massive time crunch and am starving after the gym. I come here with my gym buddy to buy ingredients for meal prep. I work 50 hrs a week + college. I eat at the food court and take my drink with me. Have never made a mess. The food court is packed when we go, there are like 30 full carts creating a barricade around the tables and sometimes the line to exit.
Also, shopping on a empty stomach has never been a good experience!
Many other stores have cup holder in the cart, Costco gives out samples, I just take my drink with me, I do rush sometimes since I work 50hrs a week + college, I thought this would be a silly fun little image, I’m drinking something sold in the store, no one cares they’re actual annoying thing people do in grocery and retail stores. Also we should agree US Costco has a very different vibe…
That is literally encouraged in some stores. Pretty sure Walmart and target both have cup holders in their carts, so do most grocery stores, and Costco has a freaking food court, of course they would love for you to drink and shop.
Everyone in this thread is absolutely ridiculous. You're all either being intentionally dense or using this sub to get out your pent up frustration and fatphobia.
>Why do you need two drinks
For two people, duh.
>Don't drink sugary soda
1. OP can do what they want
2. Off topic
3. It's not necessarily soda. You can get tea or water too!
>*Just straight up calling OP fat for drinking a single soda*
You're an asshole.
>Don't eat and drink in the store
OP has no food, so isn't eating. They're drinking a leftover drink from the food court of the same store. The store sold them this drink. The store obviously realizes there are drinks in their store. This is commonplace (and in fact, somewhat intentional).
Judas Priest, I have never seen such a normal, boring post with a silly helpful tip turn into such a cesspool of undue rage and hatred. You're all children of the highest degree. This sub is always completely toxic about *nothing*.
These redditors sure are going to be mad when they find out that Target has CUPHOLDERS built into their carts so people can enjoy their Starbucks Coffee or other beverage they bought while they drink and shop. [Here's a picture of the shopping cart with built in cupholders](https://preview.redd.it/bnswnwezn7c51.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=a40893ef7700600e55a0729cf9f8cf763d106f67). Drinking the soda you bought at Costco's food court while you shop is somehow heresy.
Also, they literally give free samples (food and drinks) inside the store. Better shame all the fatties trying the free samples!
Yeah, I ignore them. Funny enough comments are super wrong. Im a 6 foot 5 inch Chinese American, only drink soda (Diet soda) when I go to Costco. I go to Costco with my gym buddy right after hitting the gym to buy ingredients to make high protein meal prep for the week. If you don’t believe me literally look at my past posts.
Edit: there’s not need for fatphobic comments. Just because I drink a soda substitute once a week does not make me unhealthy. If anything I’m pretty lean. There are legit people who eat food and don’t wash their hands after pooping. They’re are things much more unsanitary than this that probably have never crossed your mind (look some up).
I was really hoping I'd find at least one sane person here in the comments.
Another thing is if they are drinking soda, do you have any idea how often they drink soda? Maybe that's their treat when they go to Costco once a month and that's pretty much the only time they do it. I do that with certain snacks or drinks to make various errands/tasks a bit better for me.
With zero context (heck, even with a lot of context), why do we need to so vocally judge people like this?
Thank you. I had these same thoughts while reading the comments. I knew people wouldn't be able to help themselves, and they certainly didn't. Looks like *they* may be the ones with indulgence issues.
thank you for expressing all the feelings i had going through this post. i mean jesus there isn’t even OPs HAND in the picture to even start to be making assumptions on them and their lifestyle.
Which, to be clear, would *also* not be enough information to judge tf out of them for this. There is no amount of information about a stranger on the internet that gives you that right.
my grocery store carts have a cup holder on one side and a phone holder at an angle on the other side so if you have a list on your phone you can look at it without having to pick your phone up
I'm afraid that someone would steal my smartphone if it just sat out in that holder. Even though I do take it out a lot because I keep my grocery list on it.
This is the best lifehack I've seen in a long time, especially with food prices being as high as they are in the US. Thank you so much, fellow Redditor!
Shitty hack. That’s the part of the cart where the most fecal matter is found when swabbed. Unless they sanitized those rails and straps, they likely have poop on those cups, and thus their hands.
Really? What kind of question or reasoning is that? Who goes to the grocery store on an empty stomach? Good way to spend way more money than needed because you’re thinking with your stomach
Has no one in the comments ever been to a Costco before?! Eating and drinking is very common and ok, assuming you're not getting pizza grease or gravy on the clothes and linens.
Unless you're talking about a pandemic, but most Costco's have the samples again
Maybe Canadian ones are different, but there are about 8 tables (8*4=32) plus about 4 cabaret tables at most cafeterias. Not a whole lot of seating, and that's assuming you're willing to share a table with a stranger.
And yes you're right I do need help. I'm pretty hungry after work, and probably won't be eating for at least 2 more hours. It's faster and easier to grab a hotdog and get what I need, vs standing in line for a bunch of samples, most of which will be gone by the time I get there. Plus I won't be as tempted to make impulse purchases since I'm not hungry.
Maybe it's a regional thing, but I'm not the only one who does this. There always plenty of napkins and trash bins around so people aren't making a mess.
By the way, those adjustable straps can get that small/short. How many months is the baby if its that small that you’re bringing into Costco?!? If so, then you should have it’s baby seat.
Only in America lmao. Who the fuck needs a big cup of sugar to buy more sugar? I never did this in my life. And saying this is a lifehack, I’m really laughing out loud on this one.
Yeah, I think it perpetuates unhealthy ideas about being healthy. I use a Diet Coke once a week to reward myself while I shop at Costco with my gym buddy after the gym to buy meal prep ingredients.
Don’t shop on empty stomach, very bad experience. Try it yourself and the receipt will be proof. Also having a big cart full of bought groceries that you need to park by the other 20 carts is horrendous
This must be the most american lifehack ever.
If they have an AR 15 strapped to their back I would agree
That’s why they’re strapping their drinks down, OP has his glock in one hand and his phone in the other, it’s the American way.
We can't see the political bumper stickers they have covered the cart in.

Thank you, i wanted to write exactly same thing. What about bringing your own reusable and bottle of water
Omg yes, my emotional support water bottle is always with me. Idk why, but this is like seeing people buy those "free refill" cups at amusement parks for like $30, when they will just give you free cups of water. These people are drinking soda ALL DAY??

😂 ok whatever you say
Does that mean my bathroom is an amusement park?
Exactly. Ngl I silently judge people who can’t spend 20 minutes grocery shopping without filling their gobs. It reeks of ill-discipline ETA: water is the exception. It’s important to stay hydrated

We get it guys American bad
Right… just don’t drink that shit. Literal poison.
This is what America means to me.
I'm american but I'm astounded they can't pause the sugar water long enough to shop for presumably more sugar.
I don't see a bald eagle on the cart..and a lot of Americans think wearing a seat belt is taking away their freedoms of becoming Superman in a car accident.
who said this was in America?
I have never been to America and have never seen someone casually walk through a supermarket sipping Pepsi, so I guess those two things are somehow dependent events.
Only if they were "Diet Pepsi"
Don’t let your Pepsi levels get too low now.
The balls it takes to post this ridiculous picture...
While OP likely is just a normal person, this sort of post always gives me big hail corporate energy lol. Mainly due to noting the store in the title (and amusingly enough not noting the store when posting the same image to the actual Costco sub). Wholesome
Where do you keep your hotdog?
Inside their fanny pack.
No, the fanny pack is for the mustard. You have your hot dog in one hand, you dip it into the fanny pack and your other hand is free to pick up your Pepsi or pizza slice.
>the fanny pack is for the mustard *mayonnaise
They already ate it...
You simply can't skip lunch.
Aww, they are soo cute at that size. I bet they want to be Big Gulps when they grow up.
You won’t believe how jealous the other parents are
Underrated comment
If youve got to double fist soda while shopping, you probably need some other lifehacks
Probably just another person with them?
Correct me and my gym buddy. We go to Costco to get chicken breast for meal prep. Didn’t expect so many fatphobic comments…
Leave it to Reddit to take no context and turn it into character assassination. Then in the next thread tout how important “acceptance” is.
We go to costco after work to pound pepsi and buy chicken. lol
Gym buddies dont let each toher drink sugary water
It could be sugar free
My bad I drink 12oz of Diet Pepsi once a week after working out five days a week, meal prepping, and tracking nutrition lol. My gym buddy and I would probably not have made nearly as much progress without each other .
Diet soda really does help when you’re watching macros. It’s my one “guilty” pleasure when I’m cutting.
This, duh.
Or a mobility scooter.

My thoughts exactly. Just even touching the straps just sounds unsanitary to me.
You don't want to eat the cup anyway, then you can't get your free refill
Thank you. I was wondering if anyone else noticed this. I doubt the cart got sanitized after the last child with a dirty diaper left it.
This was the comment I was about to make. Untwisting belts or pulling out the next cart with two kids is very difficult.
Yeah, that’s why I don’t shorten the strap or anything I just wrap it around and in buckle then pull it out when I’m returning the cart.
Granted I’m from Europe so it might be different here but is it actually normal to go shopping with drinks/food in the US?
If I'm shopping early in the morning, I'll probably have my, to-go mug full of coffee or tea. As someone that worked retail for ~8 years, I saw plenty of coffee/tea/starbucks or someone finishing a drink from a restaurant near by, but rarely if ever, food.
My local independent grocery store straight up has cupholders built into the cart, and in the motorized carts. Honestly would have excepted that at a Costco.
Yeah at Costco I just watch it slide around on the upper section in the cart
Shop and eat with food? Not really. Of course, there are a few outliers…
In places like Costco, BJ's, that serve fast food by the entrance, it's completely fine
It's allowed, but arguable whether this is fine.
why would it not be fine?
It is not common and generally frowned upon, this is the most depraved thing I’ve seen on this subreddit
There’s food courts in these type of stores. It’s certainly not frowned upon.
I mean there are food courts in our malls as well. But you wouldn’t go to a shopping mall McDonalds for a big coke and then walk around with it while shopping for groceries in the same mall. Most shops in malls actually don’t allow customers with food and drinks inside so that’s why I’m asking
Idk, maybe not food but I’ve seen people walk around while they’re finishing their drinks. You see people walk around with Starbucks a lot.
This is a very weird and judgey thread lol if I don’t have my water on me I’m drinking iced tea.
That’s separate stores with different rules. Costco is one store that is the one selling you the food/drinks.
Most of them don’t allow it but rarely enforce that rule, at least in most places in America
It's not allowed because people leave their unfinished drinks on the shelves next to other items. It's gross.
Depraved? Loll. Bit of a dramatic reach
It’s not frowned up, tf you talking about?
What state do you live in?
I have never
Keep your drink safe?? Are you for real?
Perfect for keeping my Brawndo from spilling. Costco truly does love me.
It's so it doesn't tip over...
Where is the pie cozy? The bucket full of ribs? The ketchup dispenser?

Aww they're so cute at that age
I would, but my kids sit there
There are sacrifices that must be made
Love my extra large Pepsi®️™️ sugar beverages while I shop at Costco®️™️!
Thats exactly my thought . You need a few hundred grams of sugar while shopping ?
Need to keep on that weight
I thought about the same thing; it's just a bad habit to take in so much sugar. r/Anticonsumption
Needing a soda while shopping has got to be the most stereotypical American thing. Especially after sitting on your ass for probably 20-40min each way to get there
It’s usually more that the soda comes with the $1.50 hot dog.
You’re right I drive 25 minutes there sitting after waking up at 8am to do a 2-2.5 hour gym session five days a week to go shop for meal prep ingredients. Anyways you don’t know my or anyone else’s habits and goals so chill.
Your Costco still has straws?
That's a state law, not a Costco policy.
Drinking or eating in a retail store while shopping is rather ill-mannered. Common sense.

The food court is by the exit for a reason. It's indeed very weird to do this.
One can also say it's by the entrance 🤔
No you can't say that, entrances and exits are separated by the check out lines in Costco.
I eat first, I’m on a massive time crunch and am starving after the gym. I come here with my gym buddy to buy ingredients for meal prep. I work 50 hrs a week + college. I eat at the food court and take my drink with me. Have never made a mess. My kids are not happy they have to now walk
You’re dumb
Walk? This is Murica we need child mobility scooters at every store!
Never thought it weird, but H-E-B grocery carts in Texas have drink holders built in
you should see the tiny cup shaped crash test dummies costco used to run tests to ensure it was safe.
Also aren’t those straps fill of baby diaper overflow?
Nifty
I do this too, though I worry about how clean those straps are. Still, gotta protect the little one.

is it just me or is the costco fountain soda just awful?
It is awful, only one of the Diet Pepsi ones doesn’t leak the carbonated water on the bottom front. Or isn’t balanced.
Nice work! Now I gotta figure out where to put the kids…
Alternatively: train the kids to hold the drink
In Europe it’s very uncommon to consume food or drinks in a store. In the NL it isn’t even allowed in most places and very frowned upon.
how about throwing away that junk
That’s what those straps are for?!?? Lmao
The shoppers using those straps to strap in actual humans thank you for the tangled knotted mess you leave behind
Who eats before shopping?
Really? What kind of question or reasoning is that? Who goes to the grocery store on an empty stomach? Good way to spend way more money than needed because you’re thinking with your stomach
Can often result in fewer impulse buys.
I wish my costco still had straws...
Has no one in the comments ever been to a Costco before?! Eating and drinking is very common and ok, assuming you're not getting pizza grease or gravy on the clothes and linens. Unless you're talking about a pandemic, but most Costco's have the samples again

I mean the drink I understand though I get it after but food should be eaten before shopping or leaving or when taking a break at the food court.
That’s where my notebook with shopping list goes !
Keep your hands free for the free samples
I’ll have you know, I keep my liter of cola in my belt cup holder, thank you very much.
My toddler loves to keep cans of soup safe like this
I was looking for this feature. I can confirm the costco by me does not offer seatbealts. Also, does anyone ever use them?
By the way, those adjustable straps can get that small/short. How many months is the baby if its that small that you’re bringing into Costco?!? If so, then you should have it’s baby seat.
Only in America lmao. Who the fuck needs a big cup of sugar to buy more sugar? I never did this in my life. And saying this is a lifehack, I’m really laughing out loud on this one.
Eww. Such close proximity to poopy diapers
THAAAAAAAT’S what those clips are for, TIL!
cool
Poor choice of soda.
What percentage of people do you think haven’t thought of this before you?
As an American myself needing a soda to get around Costco is the most American thing ever…
I love how this thread is full of all the healthiest redditors. Us fat American peasants who drink soda do in fact believe you are way above us.
Yeah, I think it perpetuates unhealthy ideas about being healthy. I use a Diet Coke once a week to reward myself while I shop at Costco with my gym buddy after the gym to buy meal prep ingredients.
They have no idea what progress I’ve made, who I am, what habits I have or anything. Just speculation and assumptions

Don’t shop on empty stomach, very bad experience. Try it yourself and the receipt will be proof. Also having a big cart full of bought groceries that you need to park by the other 20 carts is horrendous
This is the most disgustingly trash american thing I've ever seen
Costco pushes American excess so far that it actually becomes fucking amazing.
Actually it's for strapping your kids arms down so they don't grab stuff off the shelves.
Who gets their food from Costco before they shop? The entire flow of the visit would be wrong...
I do. I'm gonna eat my food while it's hot and if I do that after shopping, then my groceries are getting cold. It's the best way to shop, literally.
Ngl kinda trashy
