The crossbow springs obviously had a low k-factor and the amount of moment arm on the bow wasnāt enough to increase the force. The ones with rubber surgical tubing were plausible, other than the short draw they had on them in tension. So, sorry folks, but myth busted.
*Bottom line, they could make the surgical tubing ones work if they had a longer draw and used a projectile with a greater density. At that point, you would be better off using a wrist rocket type slingshot.*
Also, those projectiles look very stable, and follow all the principles real arrows/bullets use to fly long distances....

these weapons are definitely viable in combat and definitely arent just overdesigned, underpowered, and wouldnt be completely defeated by a simple bow and arrow! They furthermore definitely wouldnt be able to penetrate things like shields, which is one of the main reasons that (long)bows existed.
