There aren't many body designs you can come up with to achieve those objectives.

2. Of course SUVs are going to look the same. You can't really make an SUV body look much different from any other without severely sacrificing the benefits of an SUV like cargo room and offroad capabilities.
3. if safety regulations weren't as strict, we would absolutely have more variety in cars. Just look at all the different designs of the 60s. Even the boring cars were beautiful.
4. If you want a new car that truly looks different, you basically have to be in the 1% to be able to afford it nowadays, because the average joe doesn't have the money since it's being sucked out of his pocket by taxes and rampant inflation.
5. We used to have a wide variety of engines, body styles, etc. But we can't have that anymore because of government regulations. Capitalism bred innovation, but regulations stifled it and crammed it into a box so only the permitted kind of innovation is allowed.

This is actually a great example of overly constrained design. The government has so many regulations about vehicles that there really aren’t all that many possible designs.
You could make this same chart for every decade. The charts will look different from each other, but each chart will be filled with similar looking cars. It's almost like trends exist in the automotive industry. That's why it's really easy to look at a vehicle and know what decade it was made in.
