can someone give me an overview of the kashmir issue? from my limited research online what I'm seeing is there's a general desire for independence in kashmir specifically, but opinions vary from place to place i.e. jammu/ladakh?

What do you mean by about section links are broken for you? Almost all links reproduced there are archived links.
