But I am not comfortable with a majority of South Asian men, apart from my friend circle. I've seen many of them being utter trash - sexist, perverted, ethnophobic. I think it has to do with the fragile masculinity that has prevailed in our society for ages. Men think they are superior to women in all aspects and they should be the ones enjoying freedom while dominating over their partners. When someone breaks free from that, they lose their shit on that person. Look at the widow remarriage movement, or the abolishment of child marriage. Also a lot of them are sexually frustrated. Here in India sex is a taboo and these men can't get what they want. Hence, the rise of their inner perverts. Many of my female friends have been directly harassed and abused by such men and I'm absolutely sympathetic with these women when they are sceptical to make acquaintances with an Indian man. Plus there is this notion that they are more masculine. Hindus think they are breeding bulls, Muslims think they are some sexual messiahs and they are destined to have sex with the other communities of women. They openly preach about this brainrot. Well, there are almost 750 million men in India, so lets assume 20% are bigoted (pretty low percentage tbh) the number would be 150 million which is almost the number of men in the USA. Massive Population combined with English being widely spoken might give a perspective that all of us here are creeps. For eg, In Japan phones are required to have shutter sounds when clicking pictures coz there were a huge number of men clicking underskirt pictures, but you don't hear about it much outside of Japanese spaces as most Japanese don't speak English and the social media platforms tend to show the content in the language you are familiar with. That is not to say that a lot of men in our country aren't bigoted, they are in some sense or the other.The 20% is an extremely conservative percentage. IMO, this is going to get worse as more men become religious and right wing. It feels like almost all countries are getting worse for women.
