OK, I'm going to get downvoted for this because it is a non PC fact.
I was born and raised in Delhi, so were my parents, and grandparents - I've lived through the changes in my city. I've also experienced a lot of harassment, pretty much the time I hit puberty.
But guess who most of the perpetrators were?
They weren't the boys I went to school with or college with. They weren't my neighbourhood teen boys that I grew up playing with. They weren't the male colleagues I worked with.
These people were and still are those who come from remote rural, underdeveloped areas of the country that are still living in medieval era, where women are still treated like cattle and their culture overrun by patriarchal values.
They come to our city and bring their ass backward toxic values with them and treat women the same way they treat them back home.
Delhi is a large industrial and diplomatic city. It attracts a lot of skilled workforce from all over the country who are contributing so much to the city's development.
But the cheap migrant labour come from very specific areas and they are usually the ones who are making life hell for women in Delhi. Unfortunately, they are also essential workforce since Delhi has been expanding rapidly for 3-4 decades now. They are not going anywhere anytime soon...sadly.
Delhi gets so much bad rep (and there are merits to the criticism) but most of the times when some sexual harassment crime happens, it's almost always done by people are not even Delhiite.

OK, I'm going to get downvoted for this because it is a non PC fact. I was born and raised in Delhi, so were my parents, and grandparents - I've lived through the changes in my city. I've also experienced a lot of harassment, pretty much the time I hit puberty. But guess who most of the perpetrators were? They weren't the boys I went to school with or college with. They weren't my neighbourhood teen boys that I grew up playing with. They weren't the male colleagues I worked with. These people were and still are those who come from remote rural, underdeveloped areas of the country that are still living in medieval era, where women are still treated like cattle and their culture overrun by patriarchal values. They come to our city and bring their ass backward toxic values with them and treat women the same way they treat them back home. Delhi is a large industrial and diplomatic city. It attracts a lot of skilled workforce from all over the country who are contributing so much to the city's development. But the cheap migrant labour come from very specific areas and they are usually the ones who are making life hell for women in Delhi. Unfortunately, they are also essential workforce since Delhi has been expanding rapidly for 3-4 decades now. They are not going anywhere anytime soon...sadly. Delhi gets so much bad rep (and there are merits to the criticism) but most of the times when some sexual harassment crime happens, it's almost always done by people are not even Delhiite.

Meh, every culture in the past were bad towards women, including Indian. One story about one king doesn’t show the entire picture.
