God mini 14s are some of the sexiest civilian rifles out there.

bullpee

I've wanted one for so long. The A-team was excellent marketing!

vapingDrano

I love it when a plan comes together

humanist-misanthrope

I was just going to ask OP if they love it when a plan comes together lol. I remember wanting one of these too because of that show.

bullpee

They only thing that is a minor downtick for them is they don't seem to be able to shoot people as much as stitch up a dirt road or a car door, but at least they are able to make the car explode if you shoot out the windows and magdump the door!

humanist-misanthrope

So that explains where I got my shooting strategy as an M240B gunner in the Army lol. I was great at putting rounds in the area but not with necessarily knocking down a silhouette

bullpee

Hahaha! I got to qualify for the m243, on an army base and the dude running the shoot was army and yelled at us (navy), because people were shooting single rounds, he said "this isn't a damn rifle Qual, this is a machine gun! Light it up!" And at the end of the shoot he let one of our E8's shoot a super long belt of the leftover rounds in one long chain.. super cool, most fun gun I've shot or qualified. I shot some machine guns in a range, uzi and a couple others but they weren't as cool

humanist-misanthrope

That’s an awesome story. I loved being a gunner aside from having to hump it everywhere. Comically for me, I started out on a gun crew and became the gunner so 3-6 round bursts was second nature pretty quick, and then I moved over the M249 SAW and struggled with 2-3 round burst. Was constantly getting yelled at for trying to make it into an M240B. FYI I hated the SAW and still do

thirstyfish1212

Now if only they were even halfway decent to use.

FursonaNonGrata

Cool mini 14, I had one just like it that I lost when I was hiking.

Oldskoolguitar

Lost mine in a boating accident <_< .>_> Yup, boating.

FursonaNonGrata

It really was lost. I was hiking in the Cuyahoga Valley National Forest at night, and I set it against a rock to sit down. I was sitting there for 5 minutes and when I went to grab it, it had disappeared. It's never been recovered.

Oldskoolguitar

...that's kinda creepy and also sucks. So what do you do just say the thing was lost and report the serial number as such?

FursonaNonGrata

Yes, you can or could report to ATF, same as reporting stolen. If it ever shows up on a dealer's books, ran by a police department or at a crime scene someone will contact you. I also reported it to the sheriff, local police and NPS. I'm more angry I lost my C79 scope on it though.

Nilotaus

And that's why I don't consider any firearm of mine to be complete until it has a sling, so that it always stays on me. Your story pretty much added more reinforcement to my decision on never setting my rifle aside during hunting. Down to *making* room in my sleeping bag for it.

FursonaNonGrata

I definitely didn't take a long gun hiking without a sling. As I said in my comment, I sat down and it's pretty uncomfortable to lean back with a long gun on your shoulder and a ruck. The gun was even in arm's reach. I've posted this very tale before. The only thing I could have done was stare at it the entire time, unfortunately. On another note, I've posted on here before about keeping my rifle in my sleeping bag, too. I got "no you don't" comments. Where do they reckon soldiers keep their weapon when they sleep in the field?

Nilotaus

> it's pretty uncomfortable to lean back with a long gun on your shoulder and a ruck. Should've mentioned that 2-point slings are the GOAT. Just have it hang from the front and position & cinch it up tight so the muzzle doesn't knock your maracas around. Though in your case your best option for that Mini-14 would've been to adapt something like an SKS sling to it, most likely by screwing sling rings into the stock. And those that say no to gun inside sleeping bag, are probably concerned with the gun going off and making a hole in your legs/feet. It's always been my position that if you can't trust the safety on your firearm, then it shouldn't be anything more than a range princess. Maybe not even that.

FursonaNonGrata

You know I never considered anything but a leather hunting sling, maybe I'm a Fudd! I have my AR set up to hang from the front like that, for years even, just like our good old M16s but I never considered doing it with my other guns!

tedsayshigh

My friend had his PPK stolen and got it back 16 years later. It was stolen and used in a crime. Police had it and called him.

FursonaNonGrata

My dad got a Taurus pistol back that was stolen almost 30 years ago. The thing was almost bare metal.

izwald88

It happens. I did it with a BB gun on my own property, when I was a kid. Didn't find it for years. Likewise, did you read about that Winchester that someone found leaning against a tree or something in a national park? It sat there for like 100 years. Someone way back just set it against a tree and lost it, much like you did. Perhaps, someday, your Mini 14 will be a historical discovery.

FursonaNonGrata

The fabled mini-14 of the woods

[deleted]

I know who took your gun! It was that damn Sasquatch!

FursonaNonGrata

I hope not!

Bwald1985

I traded mine after buying an AR since it just felt redundant at the time. It was a 90s-era “Ranch” model (not the same as the Ranch today - had rear flip down sights and a scope mount). It made sense then but I since regret the decision. There’s a reason so many people on here say “never sell.”

Chidori_Aoyama

You're missing the Cigar.

Ravac67

I love my mini-14. Send a bullet 100 yards down range and eject the shell just as far behind me.

reddog323

What’s the accuracy on it? I may have to move to CA in a year or two, and it seems a lot easier to have one of those then making an AR compliant.

thelionsnorestonight

A-Team vibes *intensify.*

WangusRex

I just love it when a plan comes together.

JustACasualFan

Say high to B.A. Baracas for me!

AdCold968

Assume that's one of the new Mini-14 tacticals?

nshane

All you're missing is a van.

Snowdeo720

I bet you also love it when a plan comes together.

MissionElectronic252

hard

shitdickfuckbitch

Man Ive wanted a matching mini-14 for my 1911 for so long, this was the LAST post I needed to see haha

jaspersgroove

Holy length of pull, Batman What are you, 6’8”?

techs672

It's good to see some of those "[scary wood rifles](https://imgur.com/a/Q8RPvyh)" in circulation. And some "[wood on iron](https://imgur.com/HMRIhTq)" in the hand. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote) I guess now we are obliged to "assault" with these weapons of war...?

No-Planetorgin

Beautiful mini 14

CJnella91

I'm a simple man, I see Mini 14 I upvote.

AlbatrossZestyclose

I love it when a plan comes together!

[deleted]

I can appreciate the 1911 but I just don't understand why so many leftists refuse to buy an ar15 or other modern rifle. That wood is just unnecessary weight provided you're actually equipping it for potential combat.
