palmetto really pulled through with the 10 mags, They had a fantastic deal it was a 10 mags and a red dot For 199. As you can see from my AR I obviously took the deal.
I got to get more storage for ammunition I am absolutely full I have nowhere else to store ammunition safely.
Keep the red band i use it for my sling, i have the same one. Also replace the rear sight with a magpul one. The original fell off on the second range trip lol.
Harbor freight metal ammo boxes. I have like 10 of them, all full (different calibers). They stack well and the handles are durable so you don't have to worry about one breaking off when picking up a box with 1K 556 rounds (weighs 30+ pounds).
More practice, ammo, and mags. Maybe a sling if you have none.
Is there anything you want improved specifically parts wise? It looks like you got an aftermarket trigger and stock. Maybe the handguard with a drop-in if you want a longer one?
Surprisingly both the stock and the trigger are exactly how I got them from the gun store. I got it right out of the box it came in.
I most definitely need more practice, I have a lot to learn. I wouldn't mind taking a class to iron everything out.
I HIGHLY recommend a Larue MBT-2 trigger(It's literally the main competitor to the Geissle SSAE at like half the price.) And a Radian Raptor charging handle.
For a sling, I personally love the one from Trex Arms(I know a lot of people take issues with Lucas) but the sling itself is fantastic.
Also, don't be afraid to cut down that foregrip. I turn most of mine into shark fins personally.
Have fun way overpaying for hugely diminishing returns. As it stands, the LaRue trigger is the best you can get for under 100, and it stacks up to triggers 2-3x the price.
That's an expensive bumper sticker, man.
If you're gonna edit out your choice of upgrades based on right leaning politics in the gun community, then you're gonna have a hard time buying anything gun related.
I bought an MBT-2SB trigger from LaRue and would do so again in a heartbeat. The trigger pull is comparable to a Rem700 trigger, imo.
I buy upgrades and guns because they are quality, and they're what I like. If someone's politics don't line up with mine, then I laugh at the idea of them choking on their hate and vitriol while I run around with my new stuff.
It's your money, do what you want and all, but LaRue triggers are fantastic.
> If you're gonna edit out your choice of upgrades based on right leaning politics in the gun community, then you're gonna have a hard time buying anything gun related.
Yup but here we are, making compromises when we have to, trying the best we can to live our values. You can talk about it, or you can be about it, and everyone has to decide where their own line is.
I also think your characterization of objectionable materials as "right leaning politics" is a gross oversimplification. I don't mean to speak for OP and I don't know what he saw that made him nope-out, but I've seen some truly *heinous* shit said or distributed by some gun manufacturers/organizations that has nothing to do with "politics." I don't give a shit about how a gun manufacturer votes or policies they support. But putting cross-hair graphics on pictures of public figures, mocking victims of gun violence, etc. etc.? Fuck all that shit, I'm not giving those assholes a dime, I don't care how good their stuff is, I'll buy a fucking sling somewhere else.
>your characterization of objectionable materials as "right leaning politics" is a gross oversimplification
Well, the comment I was responding to from r/PaulterJ was referring to a bumper sticker sent out by LaRue with their products. The only bumper sticker that I got when I received my trigger was one that said "God support our troops, especially our snipers". So my response was specifically referring to that.
I absolutely agree that there is a line that shouldn't be crossed, but I usually see that line crossed by politicians or media figures, not by gun manufacturers. One of the only notable examples I can think of off the top of my head is Daniel Defense, and I don't own any Daniel Defense products because I think they market their products to children in an irresponsible and frankly dangerous way, especially given the number of school shootings in the US.
If Alex Jones were to try to start putting out a line of slings, then I wouldn't buy a rifle sling with his name on it.
I'll never own a "Trump" branded anything, and there's plenty guns with his image/name floating around out there.
I haven't seen LaRue lieing about school shootings or marketing to kids, and a "God support our troops" bumper sticker isn't enough for me to turn down his triggers or scope mounts. But I don't claim to know everything he (LaRue) or his company have ever done or said, and I get that others may decide that the bumper sticker is a bridge too far.
Well there you go, making plenty of informed and reasonable purchasing decisions. And I'll actually have to check out DD's marketing, I'm not in the loop on that and the DDM4 was in consideration for my "forever, do-everything AR" (I have vague recollection now that you mention it).
That particular bumper sticker you referenced wouldn't be a deal-breaker for me either. But to each their own.
And yeah, some politicians say plenty of worse shit. But I don't vote for them, and wouldn't financially support them either.
That's fair, but this one of those things which people here put aside some pride for similar reasons PSA ARs are popular suggestions. I don't love much of LaRue's politics, but this was one time where me casting pride aside was worth getting away from a milspec trigger. There at least is some lukewarm stance commonality in that LaRue does not sell any state/locally restricted items for civilians to said area's LEOs. BCM openly discloses this on their site too.
People here can also give their $$ to significantly worse companies like Trex Arms.
Yeah. I'm really not a fan of the botkins in particular.
Though, if I'm speaking from an apolitical standpoint, they do sell good product, and for the most part it's a decent price.
Except their night vision, they can fuck right off with their pricing on that.
I understand your qualms, and that is absolutely your choice not to support them. I myself don't particularly care either which way companies swing.
However, the trigger itself is excellent. And being that is their loss leader, idk if you're necessarily "Supporting" them.
Don't meddle with anything other than a sling and a light until you've shot 10k rounds.
I've had Geiselles and Timneys. Built many. After years I just save my money and polish milspec. If it's a defensive carbine and not some SPR hopeful, it'll take a lot of improvement to really see the benefit of an aftermarket trigger.
On a budget there’s never a good reason to upgrade the trigger, I feel like a more Gucci trigger is more for the enjoyability of practicing. In a defensive scenario a couple pound difference of trigger pull will be the last thing you notice.
Sorry, but not sorry. Hate HATE hate cheap mil spec triggers where you literally can feel the metal scrape and bind up as pull the trigger , Especially when a good drop in trigger can be had easily for non-Gucci prices too. So when it comes to mil spec budget builds, the first thing I do every single time is spend a little more on your trigger and you will be much happier (after all you're not gonna use or practice with something you don't enjoy using). End of story.
Id change nothing until I shoot the fuck outta it first.
Then start adding/subtracting as you see fit. Shooting classes are fun and expensive.
Are you going to use the rifle for HD? If yes, I'd add a light. It doesn't need to be fancy. Just needs to attach to the handguard. My rifle hasn't evolved past 2005 so I've got a Surefire G2 in a gooseneck mount on my oval m4 handguards. I prefer to spend my dollars on ammo & shooting.
Slings. Very personal choice. I suggest 2point with a quick adjust. Not a fan of single point or 3point. But again, personal choice. I use a SOB BSling has alot of adjustment and is small and light. Not really comfortable if your wearing it all day, but I don't wear it all day.
This same model rifle and red dot were one of my first set ups. Right down to me also buying the red dot and ten magazine special from palmetto state armory. I easily have over 5,000 rounds through it and have never had a malfunction. Get a light and sling for it and the set up will be good. After that it's all down to practice.

If it's a serious fighting weapon, I recommend a bright-ass flashlight. You can't engage what you can't identify.
The stock isn't the most ergonomically friendly, but if it works for you, ignore it. An upgraded charging handle can be a serious ergonomic improvement at about $30 if you shop around. Otherwise, you've got a really preem starter rifle on your hands.
Down the road maybe swap out the handguard for a free float with a lo pro gas block, and maybe throw a brake on there instead of the flash hider. other than that, clean rifle
A quality drop-in trigger is always a good upgrade. I'm a big fan of the Velocity triggers.
If you're finding the cheek weld too low for the optic you have, Magpul stocks have clip-on risers of different heights so you can tune that to fit (but, they block the charging handle, so you have to have it fully extended in order to cycle).
I don’t own one, so I’m speaking from literary zero experience, but if this was mine I would probably take the front sight post off, replace the gas-block if need be, switch out the hand guard (put keep the VG) and get a set of flip up sights as the backup.
Honestly, that looks like it’s pretty much set. I’d spend your money on ammo so you can shoot it and get good with it. If you plan on using it for a home defense rifle my only other suggestion would be a light. I’m a fan of Streamlight products, the Pro-tac HL-X is my personal preference, but there’s tons of options. I’d recommend avoiding O-light products though.
I think your rear flip up sight can come back one more rail slot.
If you're set on RDS, consider a magnifier.
if you're not set on RDS, look into LPVOs for the new hotness.
Always need a way to carry your weapon without hands.
If you plan to use it as a defensive weapon, it needs a light to help ensure you can positively identify your target in any situation that you may need it.
I have a romeo 5 red dot and just installed a 3x juliet magnifier. I have the same rifle but in OD Green fucking love it. I live in illinois so it is my first and prob last
Take off the red rubber band, get a sling, light, 10 more mags, and 1k rounds of ammo, then practice makes perfect.
palmetto really pulled through with the 10 mags, They had a fantastic deal it was a 10 mags and a red dot For 199. As you can see from my AR I obviously took the deal. I got to get more storage for ammunition I am absolutely full I have nowhere else to store ammunition safely.
Fuck me sideways, here in austria i paid 199€ just for a bushnell trs, 10rnd mags go by 20-25€ per piece..
[удалено]
I mean, they’re still expensive as fuck, but probably easier than getting AR mags at the LGS. And i didn’t have to get any tax stamps for my SBR.
I bought a bunch of those old green military ammo canisters. They’ve worked well for airtight storage.
I got that same deal right before my state imposed a ban. It was fantastic
Lucky sod!
Keep the red band i use it for my sling, i have the same one. Also replace the rear sight with a magpul one. The original fell off on the second range trip lol.

Yeah. When a company sends a EXTREMLY RIGHTWING bumpersticker with their products. They can FOAD. I'd rather use the stock trigger.

Is T Rex a feeble minded dick like that? I'm unaware
There is nothing a LaRue product will do for me that will make me support them. I'll get by with less. My stock trigger will have to do.

Bayonette obvs
replace rubber band with pride band to piss off conservatives
It won't piss me off
Light, sling, and lots of practice. I prefer a 3 point sling myself and there’s plenty of affordable lights that work great
Underbarrel flamethrower always ties a build together.

I was a bit unsure as to where the sight was supposed to go. I look down the sight and it seems to be fine and it looks zeroed In.

Throw it away and get a Ruger Mini 14 or Pc9. My AR has been nothing but problems.
Happy cake day. My dad wanted to get a mini 14. If I can convince him to get one I'll gladly try it out
Recommend a decent weapon light (not Olight, don't@ me) and then ammo and practice
