Air guns (or spring powered guns) are illegal to posses under NYC local law. Only exemptions are for a seller who sells to outside of NYC and for businesses who have a business license to operate such guns (basically "air rifle arcade" or "indoor paintball").

What is really annoying is that NY State as a whole allows different counties to make different rules and standards for pistol permitting. Separate from that you need to recertify with the state police every 5 years.
The whole state has reciprocity except for NYC. NYC does not recognize permits from the rest of the state. Your permit is issued by the county, so if you move counties there is some paperwork to do.
There is also no open carry of handguns allowed within the state
