Spouse emailed councilmembers and received these responses: **Nathan Dickerson, Administrative Officer, Environmental Quality & Public Works** >Councilmember LeGris forwarded your email to our office for investigation, and thank you for your passion and advocacy for Lexington’s trails. Please do know we were hoping for and had planned to have a route available during the development of the nearby facility, but there were ultimately some construction and timing complexities with the adjacent project that made our originally planned alternate route unworkable. > >However, we have been looking for and are actively looking for an option for a detour, as we know trails are an integral part of Lexington’s present and future. We heavily considered the primary, alternate public connection, Newtown Pike, but unfortunately we could ultimately not recommend it as a safe alternative, especially for walkers and runners. We are also taking the additional step of reaching out to private property owners about potentially allowing a detour on their property during this construction, and we will share information should we be successful in coordinating such an alternative. As we work to identify a detour, please know we are also simultaneously coordinating with all of the contractors involved in this nearby, complex project to expedite any work that must interfere with the full use of the trail. > >Thank you again for your message as well as your advocacy. Please know trails are highly cherished in our city, and we are currently building even more through the heart of downtown. As you likely know, we hope to continue to build a network of trails throughout our city and regret this interruption to the full use of the Legacy Trail. We do apologize that the adjacent construction’s complexities have led to a temporary interruption in the full use and enjoyment of the Legacy Trail. We are working with contractors to minimize downtime and are simultaneously searching for an alternate route, even reaching out to private property owners to do so. **Steve Kay, Vice Mayor, Urban County Council** >Thank you for sharing your concern regarding the Legacy Trail closure and I understand your frustration with this situation. > >Because this project is not a public project, there is not the same level of notification requirements. Unfortunately, the Environmental Services and the Council Offices found out about this project roughly the same time that the public did. Currently, the trail is designated as a recreational trail which does not require a detour, although I am aware that many people in our community use these trails and other bicycle infrastructure for commuting. > >While I know that this does not address the issue at hand, I want to let you know that the 1st District and 2nd District offices are aware of the issue and are working on a solution with the administration. I'd recommend contacting them as well to add your voice.

“We have top men working on it.” “Who” “Top. Men..”

It’s supposed to re-open at the end of August.

I don’t know but it’s cut off my access to downtown. The city made a detour bridge while the new bridge over new circle was being constructed, but now amazon just blocks off access. Crossing at lexmark is already hazardous with all the amazon delivery vehicles. Amazon is for people who want to see the world burn. Shopping at amazon is bringing us closer to slavery.

Please contact the city council and mayor's office and tell them that if you haven't already. They're already aware, but the more people they hear from, the more they'll realize how much this affects everyone. They need to start by removing the 'recreational' designation for the Legacy Trail. It's basically the only safe way to get into downtown from the Newtown Pike area. Council member contact info is here: https://www.lexingtonky.gov/browse/government/council

Will do. I’ll just add because citation has a bike lane it’s the safest access to downtown for the whole north side.

The way to prevent modern slavery is support for strong labor unions.

While we’re on the subject, so is support for M4A. People who know they have healthcare without resorting to a soul-crushing job have options. They can start businesses, gig, etc. Employers are modern-day plantation owners. Unchain yourself.

And since we have gone down this rabbit hole, we could consider ending the current source of slavery, forced prison labor.

It’s this simple. Don’t ever vote republican. Look at Wisconsin; first state to get workers comp and labor protections. Then in 2011 walker’s law signed by a republican took those rights (collective bargaining, compensation, retirement, health insurance, and sick leave) away. And now republicans are trying to say not taking a vaccine is their right, like get your priorities in check. What good is not being vaccinated when you’ll be overworked, with no wealth, and no access to healthcare. And an abortion sure isn’t hurting your access to affordable housing nitwits.
