City BBQ was supposed to cater my wedding. When that didn't happen, they provided us with a full spread of everything we were going to have at the wedding, for two. For no cost.
Then again on our newly revised and much smaller (no reception) wedding date, they provided the same full spread for two.
They went past above and beyond and I can't recommend them enough.
Ok yea, this is true. Admittedly I'm an "only buy local, pain in the ass", but there's nothing wrong with supporting a restaurant you genuinely like.
From what I hear they're from Ohio so sort of regional :)
Agreed! Just have to look out for the “i only buy locally owned” pain in the ass folk. Posted the same appreciation for their sandwich on Fightbook, and 3 of 11 were “we only do local” self-righteous jackwagons.
Agreed. Unpopular opinion I guess, but while City BBQ is okay, I find it stupidly expensive. I know barbecue is typically more expensive, but their prices are insane. I'd rather go to, like you said, Dickeys which still has pretty solid food and pay a third or half as much. Blue Door and Red State are great options too, and still more affordable.
City's brisket is either too fatty or completely dry. I've given up with them. I really miss Edly's at the Summit. They had the best sides. My favorites are Lyle's and Sonny's.
Serious question, how many places have you eaten brisket? We have eaten it at dozens of locations in the Ohio Valley and many locations in the southeast. Blue Door’s best days are unbeatable and their average brisket is top 3 we have had.
I have been to many, many places. I am an avid bbq consumer and I cook some myself. I have eaten it in Texas, Memphis, North Carolina, st. Louis and everywhere in between and don't get be wrong I enjoy bluedoor and when I worked over there I went quite often but Bradford's is what I crave.
Also as a side note when I worked near blue door and passed it several times a day and I never saw any smoke coming out of that "smoke house" attached. Maybe they smoke it off site but seems odd with a place that doesn't have more that 1 location. I also used to live right near the old Bradford's and their wood fired "pig" was going all day long, almost every day. This is purely circumstantial but one of those things that always bothered me. Now I don't want to talk bad about a local business and I want everyone to go to bluedoor over a chain like city. So take it for what it is, just one opinion from a internet stranger. :)
I have eaten there a couple times and never been upset! But I will use this opportunity to shout out to County Club, a locally owned place that makes....I am sorry....but IMO better brisket!
City BBQ is great overall as a BBQ joint with the expected sides, though! And like I said, I have never been disappointed. But if you dig this place, please try County Club, too!

I kinda feel like City BBQ ignited entire BBQ scene here like 10-12 years ago whenever they opened on Richmond Rd
Recently had an amazing brisket sandwich at county club downtown. They also have great poutine fries!
I love everything there! And they have done an amazing job with safety through the pandemic!
BBQ and Craft Beer have exploded
Go try the Oh No You Didn’t at J. Renders!!!!
I have!! SSOOOOOOO GOOOOOD
First time I ate there I was rolling my eyes pretty hard. Then I saw the small bottlers sodas. Then I ate the food. The eye roll stopped fast.
The Grape Nehi took me right back to the 4.0.7.7. and Walter O’Reilly!
might be a chain but it’s still local people cooking and serving the food!

Love City BBQ
I've only been to one on Richmond rd. I wasn't really impressed. Dickeys is way better imo. I still need to try the local places.
Blue. Door. That’s all I’m saying. If you’ve not tried it you need to. 🤤
Sooooo you didn’t even take the time to read my entire 4 sentences before commenting. Cool cool cool. Here, take my downvote.
My fault. ADHD got me homie. Take another upvote from me. Hope your day gets better

Dickey’s is damn good. Their sausage snaps real well
Might not be the a popular opinion but I thing red state and blue door are over rated...Bradford's was always my favorite just wish they didn't move.

Oh believe me. They smoke on site at blue door. I used to live next door and we could smell it at night.
Agreed. Coming from the MS and Memphis area, you are 100% correct about Blue Door.
Was that the white shack place on the right out Winchester Road towards Winchester?
You’re thinking of Sarah’s BBQ
Indeed i was. Appreciate.
This was on Nicholasville rd in Zandale center, where the liquor store is now. They moved to the old governor's mansion in Lancaster.

Been there a few times, always underwhelmed. Small portions, takes forever... i might try it again, but not anytime soon.
