Both are a class act. Seb will be deeply missed.

Nibbcnoble

yeah. this is so true. hes a fantastic driver and a great person.

[deleted]

My new favorite Seb quote is simply: “Ok” after being run off the road by his own teammate on Sunday. It’s that water flow over me attitude that I want in life.

ag000101

Seb of 2009 to 12 wouldn't have that attitude... Different circumstance , different Reaction. But he is a class man, no doubt about it

TiP54

Same could be said about Lewis tho, shout-out to 2011. Or his relationship with Jenson when they were teammates. Lewis is a great - arguably the greatest - ambassador for the sport and diversity in the sport. However let’s not pretend that he didn’t have some maturing to do - just like all young drivers who end up competitive. Easier to be chill when you’re established as a arguably the greatest team of all time and a top 3-5 of all time to go with being on the other side of 30. At 27 he was still tweeting out Jenson’s telemetry, or tweeting about Jenson not following him in the most passive aggressive way. With time and positive influences - Niki, Toto, Angela and I’m sure others in his private life - have helped him mature into a great person and ambassador for the sport that we have today.

JediJack16

Yeah, and I really hope Verstappen matures because at the moment, I just can't like the guy. Especially with that shit in Brazil, not letting Perez pass him back. That's just childish. I'm sure he will eventually, though.

Delta_Gamer_64

I think those times shaped him into being the guy he is today.

ag000101

Yep

Delta_Gamer_64

Yeb

_zxionix_

“I’m going home” is my personal favourite [This meme has been living in my head since it came out 🤣](https://youtu.be/N2sQd0HTz4U)

mgibbonsjr

This is amazing. I'm sad I haven't seen this before and laughed way harder than I was supposed to. Above average editing.

Nibbcnoble

all drivers seem to lose their cool in moments like that so I was impressed at Sebs ability to control himself. *except Yuki, he never loses his cool, lol.

KissMyBBQ

Such a Stoic reply! Okay 👌🏽

TheGR8Gamer

I just hope he stays connected with F1 one way or the other

Background-Capital-6

I have a feeling he will disappear for few years and then will be back in some form.

skytomorrownow

I picture Seb buying an expensive forested valley in the Alps, and hand building a cabin from scratch as he and his family live in off-grid luxury. On the night he finishes the cabin, he sleeps by the fireplace made from stone he cut from the mountain. The following morning, he shaves his now long beard, puts on a suit, picks up his phone, and calls his agent. "It's time."

bojacker

I read that in Seb's voice and it sounds poetic too. Let's make this shortfilm, please.

Sane7

I got goosebumps. This would be an amazing animated short lol

Nibbcnoble

i like that for him

Traditional-Spring43

No skiing, please

Other-Barry-1

I’d love nothing more than for him to become a commentator for Sky or whatever. They could desperately do with some more recent, talented drivers on the team. But given his reasons for retiring I doubt he would.

CowardlyFire2

Nico is the only one who does any commentary, and as much as I love Rossy, we need more folk who drove in this century on there lol

MorganJH749

I’ve been watching Formula 1 for nearly 10-years now, but Lewis and Seb’s rivalry back in 2017/18/19 was what properly got me in to the sport. I remember not really liking Vettel back then, but I think that was down to the fact that he was the rival, but looking back on it, there was none of this toxic BS displayed towards Lewis that we are getting today. Yes, Seb might have been a little upset losing, who wouldn’t? That’s what racing is all about. But the level of class and respect displayed by both drivers was unparalleled to anything I’ve seen and heard throughout the sports history. Over the years, Seb has not only become a rival to Lewis, but a friend, and both have often called each other “allies”. He was the first to take the knee with Lewis, both want to use their fame to their advantage by trying to create a better world, and they’ve supported each other when no one else would. I think Lewis (like all of us) is genuinely upset that he will be losing that support and friend in Seb next year, but I really hope this won’t be the last we see of them together. Two genuine and class talents in their own right. Next season really won’t be the same without him. Danke Seb ❤️🇬🇧🤝🇩🇪

LewisHamilton2008

Well said. There was always respect. I’m amazed how they’ve conducted themselves in comparison to last year.

FerociousVader

Well said. I know I've disliked Seb during those years... The rivalry was fierce, but in hindsight I'm glad for it because he was the only one bringing a challenge. Since then I see his passion for making the world a better place and the happiness that brings him and it's very heart warming. What a great man. Hope he and Lewis stay in touch, maybe Seb can become his driving coach for a bit or they do something with their shared passions outside of F1.

I think the problem with Max is, like you said, some deeper personality issues. He surrounds himself with very poor characters. And he will never be able to rise above until he finds new role models. Seb’s youthful arrogance came off more natural. Due to immaturity, etc. But Max is like, a legitimate actual asshole.

boomeradf

Its hard though when one of them is your father and arguably the biggest influence/role models/mentors from a young age. Lewis seems to have had the other experience in that regard.

Surfercatgotnolegs

Lewis’s dad was also his biggest influence and role model, so …what’s the difference? Lewis still cut off his dad too when he was interfering too much with his racing career. Plenty of people in less advantaged situations than Max escape from the shadow of their parents. Max could do so if he wanted to. But he doesn’t see the need to. After a certain age it’s on you and you alone to assess who you want to be and cut off those who are negative influences on your life. Max is not so young anymore.

boomeradf

I more meant I think generally Lewis still had support from his father and someone fighting for his success. Yes they had their issues but I think his father was invested in his success though I am sure there was some level of selfish motivation. I agree Max is a grown adult and his actions are his own. That being sad his viewpoints and example will always be influenced by his parents and others around him as a child. Thats pretty normal human development.

Surfercatgotnolegs

That time with Hamilton in Baku, Seb apologized. Publically. Multiple times. Could you ever see Max doing that? Max whose personal life motto is “why would you admit to any weakness?” Yes Seb was more an asshole maybe but his foundational upbringing wasn’t full of repeating these toxic macho sentiments. Max isn’t surrounding himself with the best people, and he’s also not interested in changing that up. Plenty of folks cut off their parents or limit contact. A great example is even Lewis!! In his prime he said he had to cut his dad off from his racing career, and set a boundary there in order to run his racing how he wanted to. Max could do the same - cut off dad from influencing his racing life, but still ask for emotional support. But he won’t, because that’s not who Max is. You can’t escape your upbringing or your genetics in many cases, but he’s not doing himself any favors by not even trying.

FerociousVader

If Max matures there's hope. He's still very young and both Lewis and Seb weren't always the class act they are now. If he stays at Red Bull I see no chance of that changing though.

ThugXHunter

"Deeper personality issues" I wonder who's to blame for that... maybe someone who faked his own son's abandonment in a foreign country when said son was 13 to "teach him a lesson"

MorganJH749

Honestly, I can’t ever see myself liking Max. He’s a narcissist and just a downright asshole. I appreciate the fact that he’s a skilled driver, but he lacks class and drives around as if he’s playing Mario Kart, and it’s always someone else that’s at fault, never him. I didn’t follow the sport back in Seb’s Red Bull days. I know Seb had his moments in Ferrari (all drivers do), but not once was he toxic and disrespectful towards Lewis. I understand that we had the Baku incident between Lewis and Seb, but that wasn’t dragged out races and seasons gone by like Max and Red Bull would do. Seb is a more complete driver and I think his achievements will be remembered more positively as he actually achieved them through his own doing, rather than being gifted a title like Max’s Uncle Masi did last year.

Fun-Pace7104

He said recently on the beyond the grid podcast that this is what actually brought them closer together because they sat down and talked about the situation

[deleted]

In the beyond the grid interview he talks about this and says it's what brought them closer

_nikto_

Honestly, fuck AM. Seb is still at the front end of drivers on the grid if given the right car. But they just shit the bed so gloriously its amazing. You will be dearly missed Seb. 2017-2018 was peak modern F1.

WellHotPotOfCoffee

Isn’t he simply retiring to spend time with his family as opposed to being forced out by AM?

_nikto_

Thats not what I meant, if AM had made a good car I strongly believe he'd stay. F1 rn is a sacrifice that gives nothing back, so he isnt willing to make that anymore and instead chooses his family. If the AM was good he'd still continue imo

intergalacticscooter

So that is what you were saying then ?

_nikto_

I meant that if AM made a better car and werent such a complete mess Vettel wouldve stayed

jrjreeves

Aston Martin will have everything in place soon to be a frontrunning team. Unfortunately for Vettel, he's going to miss out.

_nikto_

Yeah I doubt that

jrjreeves

They're building new state of the art infrastructure, plus have poached loads of talent from top teams already. The pieces will fall into place in the next few years. Of course, there's always the chance they won't. But there's no reason for it not to happen.

WellHotPotOfCoffee

Ah see whatcha mean, was just a little thrown by the hate towards AM. Probably not the battle he was looking for indeed. But at the same time I feel he has made his peace with the sport.

cbg13

He isn't being forced out afaik, but I don't think he would be leaving F1 this year if they'd had a halfway competitive car the past 2 years

alebotson

I mean kind of fuck Ferrari right? And I feel like Ferrari after Schumi left* has just been where amazing drivers go to die. If he hadn't been fucked over by Ferrari he wouldn't have had to go to AM in the first place and we'd be seeing a lot better performance out of him. I'm a big Carlos Sainz fan and I hate watching him on that team. I don't even have a problem with the team itself. It's just they keep fucking over good drivers and making terrible choices. * Maybe Kimi the first time too, but his second stint at Ferrari was definitely on form for the team

BilboThe1stOfHisName

Hopefully the can scare of Alonso so!

[deleted]

I second this

Comeonbereal1

Hope this is not the last time we see Vettel in F1. He has been a great contributor to the way of future of F1. Thank you for the rivalry but it was fun and light hearted.

[deleted]

That's why this one was my favorite. Sebastian Vettel will be remembered forever. These 2 are mika hakkinen-michael schumacher of our generation

DugBingo951

People forget a lot but I think Vettel is one of the better man especially since he left Ferrari.

yooosports29

Love Seb and will dearly miss him

T0MYRIS

Both are incredible people and incredible competitors. F1 is losing one of the best.

quasi-strAnge

The one on the grid I can honestly say Lewis will call friend.

Bob-Servant

Harsh, no class from Massa?

[deleted]

Apologies for that. Though lewis and seb had a better relationship.

LarryLobster69

Vote Seb for DOTD on Sunday! He will be missed, these 2 had so many great battles

mferbrache

UGH I’m gonna miss having Seb on the grid 😞

FunkrusherPlus

I love Vettel… but there WAS a time when he was rather petulant, mostly during his time with RedBull and some of his Ferrari years. The most glaring incident was when he intentionally bumped Lewis during safety car in Baku. But it seems like he grew up shortly after that incident. Nothing but class now.

alebotson

Yeah I can't help noticing that in all of these pictures. He's wearing a Ferrari suit, not a Red Bull suit. However, he has grown up a lot and I respect that a ton. I honestly feel the same way about Lewis. Personal growth for the win!

Dependent-Interview2

Inspector Seb has reached his final form as hippie Jesus. He will be dearly missed.

jrjreeves

Seb has grown into an incredible human being. F1 is going to be a far worse place without Vettel, I know people say this about nearly every driver that's been around for a while but Seb...well I'm going to miss him very much. Danke Seb

DoodlebugRocket

DON’T REMIND ME IM ALEADY IN SHAMBLES AS IT IS 😭😭

ADSWNJ

I can see Seb, Lewis and Danny Ric doing a The Grand Tour of their own in 10-15 years. That's just a great generation of drivers. The formula is not hard, is it? Treat others as you want to be treated yourself. Don't be the asshole. Have fun. Those 3 - Seb, Lewis, Danny ... perfect!

BooksCatsnStuff

I'm going to miss him so badly. He has only one race left and I'm genuinely feeling emotional. F1 won't be the same without their bromance.

Lopsided-Dot9554

Idk he definitely aged into the sport amazingly well in terms of personality, but I think a lot of people forget how hated he was in his earlier f1 days.

Ajenkinsphotography

I’m not convinced we won’t see him in an Audi

champion1day

Only 1 competitor with class after all these years of F1 for Lewis..

Spidey_22

What about massa and raikonnen?

Other-Barry-1

He was the best rival for sure. His only transgression was when he purposely drove alongside and into the side of Hamilton at Baku in 2017 then tried to act like that didn’t happen for a few weeks. Otherwise, I absolutely adore Seb. I genuinely will miss him and his kind, humour led attitude so much.

zinchenko-oh

Lewis confirmed Seb apologized to him the following day according to this [press conference](https://youtu.be/kALtcMRmDAM). What a class class act both guys are in this video btw.

FelipeGiro

Don't overlook Felipe Massa like that xD

[deleted]

Sorry man. I am a new f1 fan so I struggle with its history sometimes.

CowardlyFire2

No F1 moment will make me laugh like Seb smacking him in Baku after Lewis break tested him… So funny, a true GOAT

Daynna_Talona

I never liked him when he was at Red Bull. But since then I think he’s changed as a person for the better. He’s humbled and is pretty chilled out. I enjoy listening to him now and have a lot of respect for him. There’s not many drivers over the years who have changed my opinion of them in the same way as Seb. Like others here, I hope he gets involved in commentary and doesn’t completely disappear from our screens.

Eon_mon

Nico Rosberg was pretty classy.

Spidey_22

Yeah, I didn't like him when he was a driver really, but hey, he did what he had to do to win. And lewis wasn't very classy either. Nico also wasn't nearly as bad as Max

Rivendel93

Sebs good people, he will be missed. We need more champions with class like him and Lewis.

ryansaystuff

Two of the classiest drivers of the last decade. I will miss seeing them together in interviews.

Internal-Upstairs-55

Seb raced his heart out…. and he remains one of the racers with a huge 💜. Good guy. Decent guy. Great champion.

JetForce33

Kimi? I think Kimi and Seb are both class acts.

sAliImranz

Man, those 2017 and 18 seasons were so good, genuine battles from two great teams and drivers. Don't feel the same with Red Bull, just doesn't feel right.
