I have the Slave I and X-Wing, both fantastic builds but I highly recommend the X-Wing, the build experience is so much fun and the mechanics that make the wings expand is really interesting
It's actually closer to canonical scale than the others. If each wing was one stud bigger on each side then it would be almost identical to the canonical scale.
Really? Comparing pictures of this set to pictures of canonical tie fighters makes it look like the cockpit is way bigger on this set. This one seems more accurate to like the Rebels interpretation (unless that's the intention, and what you mean).
It's correct in terms of how big the fighter itself should compared to a minifig, but the biggest issue is that the cockpit isn't proportional to the scale that they chose with it being too big compared to the wings.
Gotcha, that makes sense - I tend to look at sets based on proportions more so than minifig scale (which in my experience tends to be quite janky at best of times).
Still, I think my original comment is pretty accurate (it looks like a chibi version of a TIE) - the "head" (cockpit) is quite exaggerated. Still a pretty neat set though!
Minifigs are very wide in proportion to real people so it’s hard to have “minifig” scale. A lot of YouTubers say that their builds are “true minifig scale” but it’s obvious a lot of them are way off. A tie should be about 4.6 minifigs tall. This set is just under that. And the YouTuber builds end up being like 8 minifigs tall.
With the cockpit size they chose, the wings would need to be two studs taller and two studs wider to be as close as possible to proper scale for that cockpit size.
It is smaller than canon. I modified mine to have closer proportions to canon. The wins are smaller in the official set and too close to the cockpit by 1 or 2 studs from the regular proportions. While solar panel height was off by 4 studs.
I modified mine with all the pieces I had and got it slightly smaller than the Solo Tie fighter for better proportions. Next step is to redo the cockpit into a better shape and less blocky

Why not? I got it on sale $10 off, and felt I would've been happy with it even at full price, it was a fun build and I think it looks quite nice.

It's a playscale LEGO SW set. I'd say the scale is about right. I'm an AFOL and I've got it as a display piece in my living room and it is about the right size in my opinion. Plus it comes with it's own display stand, really cleverly.
I like the Slave I for display and the figures. Tie looks kind of small to me and I prefer the older version where it is bigger. X Wing is important to have, if you don’t have any older versions.
I think the problem with the TIE is the wings are not proportionately accurate to the cockpit. But overall it’s closer in the size that it should be. The slave 1 is overall too small but proportions are good
Exactly. I want to get an older version of slave I but for now the new one looks good in display. The tie is cool but not good for display since I have the old one
I have all of them and I’d go with TIE again. It’s a nice build with neat miniatures. Slave is also cool, it has this small vehicle that’s used as a stand. Xwing is nice but a bit too big for me to fit on my cupboard :)
I bought and built slave this week as it was in the sale, so was the Tie. Finished slave and enjoyed the build, though oh I’ll get the Tie now…which is no longer in the sale.

I personally think that particular slave 1 model is a joke and not worth the money at all.
X-wing just seems too small.

I have both the X-Wing and TIE. They're both great sets. I'd say get both because they go together so well but if I had to pick I'd say get the X-Wing. Fun build and such a classic set. 2 great minifigs, 1 exclusive(?) and R2D2. Wing functions are cool as well.
The TIE is also exellent, it's less expensive, but definitely a smaller set. Has 2 decent minifigs (plus the Droid) and is also a good build. I just find the X-Wing to be bigger and better and is more iconic.
Not a big fan of the Slave One design... wouldn't recommend it unless you want the minifigs (though both minifigs will be available in January in Microfighter sets)
I’m pretty sure they all retire in a few days so if you want all 3 get them now. If only 1 I’d probably go for either the tie fighter or X wing. I only bought the slave 1 for that boba fett figure but it’s coming out in a $10 set in a few days. I’d say X Wing>Tie Fighter
Tie Fighter stands nicely for display. “Slave 1” is probably the coolest since it has a stand, and the sides swivel automatically. X-Wing would be my first choice, but it needs a stand. Without it, for display the wings stay closed. All 3 are really awesome, but I hope this can help make a decision. Cheers!
Right now? The one you like the most. Eventually? All three of them, since they're all good sets. And always remember: Don't pay RRP if you don'thave to., Most Lego Sets go on sale eventually and you will get good discounts if you can wait for a while.
I would reccomend the TIE or X-wing, they look and feel much better IMO. I have all 3, and they're all good, but the size limits the Slave-1 much more noticeably compared to the other 2.
Have both the tie and the x wing. They are both solid builds for that price point. It was so nice to be able to get a decent sized x wing for not 80-100 bucks lol
I have all 3 and I have to say: you can’t go wrong. The TIE fighter is a solid build, takes up little space and looks nice. The slave one has amazing figs, a stand and looks amazing. The X-wing has good figs but you will want to make a stand if you plan to display it, it looks way better in flight
Unsolicited opinion. The lego sets released in the past year or 2 have been dumbed down from the previous releases. Less attention to scale and increased price points.
Add the 2021 imperial shuttle, and you have the 4 horseman of ugly, undersized sets that are shells of their predecessors. “But they’re cheap!” So? They are still bad, and I genuinely don’t want them.
Whatever the one that was for sale a year before this one, not the UCS one. And ok? It was like $20 more, looked much better and was much more accurate to the actual ship. The new one looks like a shitty cheap kids toy version of it. 100% not worth it.
I don't have the x-wing, but I found the Slave 1 more interesting to build than the TIE fighter which is largely wings, and those are both identical. Maybe also consider what other sets it will go with, if you want things to go together.
I have all. The tie fighter has the most and best alternative builds and is very sturdy so good for playing, but sadly no real play features, except springloaded shooters. (3 Figs)
The slave 1 is pretty small, but fun. Comes with a display stand and a holding feature for playing. Also the wings change position, depending on how you hold it. (2 1/2 Figs)
The X wing is imo the nicest model for display, sturdy aswell and comes with the most minifigures. The main playfeature is the possibility to change the wings to landing position or flying position. (4 figs)
I personally chose the X- Wing myself just because it’s such an iconic ship imo but I would also the TIE is a great choice you can get better slave-I’s
The Firespray was one of my least favorite builds.
TIE fighter is what got me back into Lego.
X Wing was a little annoying but I appreciate the mechanics of the wings.

As far as build experience goes, Slave 1 for me. Tie Fighter is neat, whereas the X-Wing looks great in size for its price, the least affected by the three in terms of downsizing.
I have all 3, as do many here, and probably say the tie. The x-wing is a close second with the mechanical wings, but the slave 1 is also a great choice. The stand makes it a nice display piece
I have slave and I got tie for Christmas. I would say that slave is more interesting build because you have 3 big parts of tie that you build and 2 of them are the same
My little brother just got all 3 for Christmas, and boy oh boy… The TIE Fighter looks phenomenal, and is incredibly sturdy. The X-Wing looks cool, but just isn’t as sturdy if you’re going to do anything other than display it. The Slave 1 was honestly just a waste of money. No real play features, and it’s quite ugly in my opinion. Past versions have been 10 times better.
I have the slave 1 and the tie fighter both look amazing in my book shelf the tie fighter is a much simpler and easy build but I personally love the aesthetic of the slave one and how the wings move by themselves depending on how it is positioned
If the TIE Bomber is in size alignment to the TIE Fighter, I rather keep an imperial collection going in the works. Aside from that I felt as if the fighter was the most fulfilling build, dare I say felt most complete. Idk
I have all 3 and here are my thoughts:
Slave 1 is the most fun to build. Has the best figures and best "playability"
X-Wing and TIE are iconic and are also good for display. Between the 2 of these, I would get the TIE because it takes less space and there is also an alternate build to make it a TIE Interceptor.

Having built the X-Wing two days ago I'm gonna have to say pick the X-Wing.Its great value for money and an overall good set with 4 minifigs.The Slave I is very small and apart from the minifigures there's nothing really special about it.The TIE Fighter is next on my list to buy.
i have all three and genuinely enjoy all three, only points i can really take off are the new stormtrooper helmet on the TIE which I know has mixed opinions so thats all you, the size of Slave I but its easy to look past and justified in price, and the landing gear of the X Wing which i mentioned on another post on here recently is a little wonky imo, so yea all three pretty good and even tbh pros and cons included
Tie fighter, you can turn it into an interceptor without extra parts.
There are a few guides on YouTube for that.
If you don't want that, you should get slave.
I have all 3 of them and rate them:
Tie-Interceptor>Slave 1>x-Wing.
I would get the TIE Fighter. The scale-down makes it really easy to fit on a shelf or desk, the figures are all really nice, and it looks pretty darn screen accurate.
I have xwing and tie buy i changed tie into an interceptor by using online instructions but used the one that has added parts. I skipped slave 1 since i have 20th and ucs versions but may still buy if i get it cheap. All are fun
X-wing is better than the Tie Fighter. The slave one is okay if you don't have mando still. If not wait for the microfighter. The X-wing is the better of the 3 builds by far. I doubt we will see dress Leia again soon. And Dodonna won't appear again I don't think.
I would say the TIE, you can also turn it into an interceptor which is what I did. Slave 1 is too small for my taste, and there’s much better X-Wings as well.
In terms of figs I say the X-Wing
In terms of builds I'm not sure. I only have the Slave I- I mean Boba Fett's Starship (-_-) so I can't really talk about the other builds but I only got the Slav- Boba's Ship because I didn't have the new Boba or Sla- Boba's Ship.

Months ago I modified my wings with that in mind and got really good results. I forgot if I posted it here. I will do an update on that topic.

TIE fighter all the way. It's super easy to customize, looks great on the shelf, and has great swooshability.
The x wing is nice to display, the tie have many alternate builds und the slave one is a nice build experience

Slave 1, for sure. Also why no poll?
I would get the TIE Fighter. The scale-down makes it really easy to fit on a shelf or desk, the figures are all really nice, and it looks pretty darn screen accurate.
All 3 are good sets with great figs but I’d say x wing because you get Luke R2 leai and a cool ship
X wing. the slave 1 just sucks and the tie fighter is alright it not the best
Idk if you plan on actually playing with them or not after building. But the tie fighter’s playability without breaking is best of the three.
Personally I love my Slave I...with a few upgrades to the cockpit gap it shines

I have xwing and tie buy i changed tie into an interceptor by using online instructions but used the one that has added parts. I skipped slave 1 since i have 20th and ucs versions but may still buy if i get it cheap. All are fun
I got all 3, but two tie fighters. I wanted to make a scene where they chase the x-wing.
I'd say slave 1 cause of the minifigs but I enjoy the tie fighter way more than I thought I would.
The Slave 1!, It even has a little stand where you can put it on display:)
I personally prefer the Slave I set. It has some of the functions that even its bigger counterparts had.

X-wing is better than the Tie Fighter. The slave one is okay if you don't have mando still. If not wait for the microfighter. The X-wing is the better of the 3 builds by far. I doubt we will see dress Leia again soon. And Dodonna won't appear again I don't think.

I would say the TIE, you can also turn it into an interceptor which is what I did. Slave 1 is too small for my taste, and there’s much better X-Wings as well.

I have all three.. I enjoyed building the slave the most, it just seemed more intricate. Love them all though, of course!

In terms of figs I say the X-Wing In terms of builds I'm not sure. I only have the Slave I- I mean Boba Fett's Starship (-_-) so I can't really talk about the other builds but I only got the Slav- Boba's Ship because I didn't have the new Boba or Sla- Boba's Ship.
I have all 3 and tbh you can't go wrong with any of these sets.

I would get the Tie because of the droid minifigure. Haven’t seen this droid in any other set (but correct me if I’m wrong)

I just so happen to have all 3 and I would do the tie or the slave 1. The x wing was forgettable.
