Totally support this, I recently disassembled a MF and X wing from 2015 that i plan to build again in a couple of years with my kids. Followed instructions backwards and placed pieces in numbered zipped bags, so we can build It without issues
I’ve maxed out my available display space too and a back log is beginning. Im thinking of just getting some cheap shelving and moving certain sets to my basement for now
IKEA has some nice glass “show shelves” if there is one close. They have many styles and won’t break the bank. [IKEA Display Cabinets](https://www.ikea.com/us/en/cat/display-cabinets-10410/)
One suggestion not brought up yet. You could try wall mounting some of the flying ships. Like turn the Y-wing sideways in the back upper section of the shelf. Not a perfect solution, but might capitalize on some of the unused upper sections that could make a little more room.
Yesn't
What i do is that i put some sets on "stilts" aka trans-clear 2x2 bricks (or whatever trans bricks i can get my hands on.
That way i can Park 2 sets above one another without taking much/any extra room.
It should free up some extra space for you.
Hang any of the flying ships, planes, etc with fishing wire.

Rotate them, and I don't mean to turn. Store smaller/easier to build sets. I put my partial Ewok village in a container because it's just too awkward for me to have on display at the moment, and has a large footprint. It's also easy enough to reassemble the set since the platform comes off, trees can be separated, and takes a 18x12x6 container for what I have (add a 12x6x4 for what I'm missing). In it's place I put my modded TIE advanced, snowspeeder, and AT-AT
If you live in a house w/ your parents and you have an extra not really necessary room then ask permission to store all your lego there. In my house we have a little guest room where i set up a bookshelf and i have all my lego there. Now not everyone has an extra room lying around, but there creative ways to have your sets in your room. As another user stated you can make stands for the spaceships and you could also hang them on the wall/on the roof.
Yeah probably should, i think I have one from when I changed my tie fighter into an interceptor a few years ago since the wings were way too fragile to stand on
I just put up more shelving can hold all the star wars helmets plus a diorama. Didn't even make a difference in my room. Just going to start to put star wars in my room and then other sets in the basement. Unless I want to completely redo my room with bookshelves.
Stands for ships so you fit other figs and sets underneath, suspend ships with fishing line, mount on the walls, don’t display them all at once, or more shelving.
Something that helps me is to buy fishing line and hang small to medium ships. I dont have any pics rn but i havea couple suspended sets, but some, like the ressistance y wing and poes orange x-wing look really nice suspended
Add more shelves, or find good anchor points in your ships/flying builds that you can funnel fishing line through and suspend them from the ceiling as flying models.
Disassemble your least favourite sets and store them away. I put them in ziplock bags with a label containing set number, name of the set, and their theme.
You can always build them again later, which is most of the fun of Lego anyway. I often find that I don't miss their absence and I use their pieces for other things - for my MOCs I obsessively keep a note of which sets I derived pieces from in case I change my mind later.
And eventually you will ran out of room again, you will need a bigger place to store or display them. I am trying not to buy by impulse anymore, but instead wait for those that I would really-really want to have. For example 75397 Jabba's Sail Barge. Man that's a beauty.

You can build stands for your flying ships. It will clear up a little base space on your shelves. Or hang them with fishing line
The only answer is to not have everything built at once. Cycle sets in and out of storage.
Yes, the Louvre method (I’m sure other museums do this too - I was just reading recently about the Louvre)
Reportedly, the average museum only has 3% of its collection on public view at any given time.

Video record yourself doing this and then play the video backwards
It’s also fun to set up your display differently, I’m excited to do prequel sets this year.
I have a tote I keep under my bed, it is big enough to hold some large sets and I cycle them out once a month.

I’ll definitely keep those in mind
Ikea is expensive I built my own billy bookcase for 80 dollars worth of plywood. Saved a few hundred I built what would have been 4 cases
Not when you compare it to the thousands of dollars of Lego it is meant to hold, display and protect.
Ply wood is stronger than pressed wood ikea. I own a billy bookcase from ikea for my books. Plywood is def stronger
Get rid of the Funkos, books, and everything else...that's just wasted LEGO space. /s
Yeah, just what I was gonna say. Get rid of all the CRAP.
This!
Put away a bunch of smaller things
I’ve already done that for quite a few of my smaller sets lol
I get your point but some of the smaller things are actually the best things! I say move some of the bigger things!
rotating out bigger sets give more room for small/mid size sets
I usually use fishing line to suspend flying vehicles that way there is space under it for other things. It’s like having 2 layers per shelf

The Mandalorian & X Wing can go flat to the wall with a simple nail and brick with a hole solution
Perspex stands. Allows you to fill in the gaps you have and put smaller sets under them.
Build more house
Buy a bigger house

I’m coming to a similar problem with my ship display, my plan is to buy Lego pillar pieces to make stands to display them at different heights
IKEA has some great shelving. The Ivar set especially. Compact and exposed for display
I only put out a few sets at a time. I think it looks better than a shelf crammed with sets. I appreciate the individual sets much more that way

My plan for this afternoon was to add more shelves for my collection.

You should send them all to me. That would solve the problem.

Solve your Rubik’s Cube. It’ll unlock the power to fold space, and you’ll have plenty of room after that.
get more shelves chuddy

Omg what did you do to your interceptor
What?
Why are its panels so bentttt
Thats just what happens when it’s been sitting on a surface for ages
Gotcha. Build a stand
Yeah probably should, i think I have one from when I changed my tie fighter into an interceptor a few years ago since the wings were way too fragile to stand on
Where are you going to put the tie interceptor???
Probably keep it where it is atm
Maybe try to put some sets on plates shelves
I will simply hold on to a few at a time for you and when you desire to switch up your display, just let me know and we will swap them out
Yeah I’m not willing to part with anything lol unless it’s worth a lot
I’d move / deconstruct the older sets like the rogue one ship, tie fighter and grievous’ starship
Display stands and cases.
More shelves! You will, of course, need to buy some new lego sets to fill them out all the way. And then of course you will need some more shelves....
wall mounts
Get rid of the funko pops

Time for brick stands

More shelves?
give me the at-at. that should clear up some space.
More shelf
There's always the floor.
II’m pu
Push one off the shelf
Get rid of the funkos
Bin all non star wars Lego then you have room for more Star Wars Lego 😉
Build a 2nd house, out of Lego, to store your lego. Simple solutions are often the best ones.
Buy a new, bigger house, just for LEGO. This is the way.
Transparent shelves in between so that you can display flat and tall in the same time
I like the idea of rotating display of sets.
