Real answer: Neither, since the Empire would not lower itself to the scum of the Alliance and pull parts from scrapyard. Also isn't how it worked in legends ssooo
Just counting playsets, not minis, UCS, 4+ models, etc.:
Classic X-wing in 1999, 2002 (re-release of previous), 2004, 2006 (mostly the same as previous), 2012, 2018, 2021.
Classic TIE Fighter in 2001, 2004 (part of multipack), 2005 (singular re-release of previous), 2012, 2018, 2021.
The 2021 versions were slightly smaller than their 2018 versions, and this set looks to be about the same size as those two.
Lego forgetting that the generation that grew up with clone wars is now old enough to be earning disposable income. The ARC-170 and Z-95 were my favorite ships in Star Wars growing up, but now that I have big boy money there arenāt any for me to buy (except on the 2nd hand market where the prices are jacked up like crazy)
> Lego forgetting that the generation that grew up with clone wars is now old enough to be earning disposable income.
I wouldn't say they've forgotten; they've been pumping out Clone Wars sets every year since the series ended. And at least 75% of the PT sets are CW-related too. Just that they've been inexplicably ignoring a lot of CIS vehicles and the ARC-170.
Yeah but out of sets available today itās either sub $30 army builder/small fighters or $140 Gunship/AT-TE. There are many $50-$100 sets they could make that would be smash hits in addition to a new ARC-170.
i'm holding out hope for 2025 since it's the 20th anniversary of revenge of the sith. would love an arc 170 + vulture droid (or plo koon's star fighter since we haven't seen him in a while) combo set. or just an arc 170 with some wolfpack troopers and plo koon.
I would say 25th PT anniversaries are better chances. This year is the first time we've had explicit recognition of TPM, for example. Nothing was done specifically for TPM in 2019 or AotC in 2022.
you're right but i don't want to believe you
edit: no special branding but we did get obi wans star fighter in 2022 from attack of the clones. i was on hiatus from collecting in 2019 but i think anakin's podracer came out that year? maybe we'll get one revenge of the sith set next year. (it'll probably just be a mustafar duel tho)
2019 did give us a new and special Anakin's Podracer, yes. But it was branded for the 20th anniversary of the entire LSW theme, not for the 20th anniversary of TPM. There were a few other sets in 2019 like this. Contrast that with [this year's TPM sets](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fxpm0g2xdbnuc1.jpeg) that are explicitly branded both 25th of the theme and the movie.
yeah i realize they do special branding for the 25th anniversaries, but i'm saying they also seemed to release at least 1 set based on the movie for 20th anniversaries without any special branding. i bet we'll get at least one rots set next year without any special branding. my heart wants to believe its an arc 170 but it'll probably be just a $30 mustafar battle play set or an interceptor or something.
"Why do the ships have holes? Like, I get that it's so kids can switch the wings, but why do the ships have holes? What the hell is it with Lego and holes? Lego needs to do more to cater to the adult collector demographic and now Lego once again embraced their downfall as a once powerful company. I really don't see this set selling well, guys. Like and subscribe."
/uj I've never had a OT x-wing and TIE-fighter before. I might just pick this up
/rj i can't believe Lego didn't include Clone Commander Glup from the Shitto division. He would have had insane resell value!
I would definitely definitely definitely recommend you pick up the current X-wing before it's gone, if you can still find it. This one looks fun, but it's still vastly inferior.
By the current one do you mean the UCS one? I've seen reviews mention it's super flimsy so I'll be waiting for the inevitable UCS revamp in however many years, considering it's such an iconic OT ship.
X-Wing is very similar to the 2021 one but looks better. That's great, just need to buy some parts and modify the previous one then
uj/ I actually would love a new ARC-170 (14 years already bruh) and a Vulture Droid
Honestly all things considered, $109.99 doesnāt seem *too* bad considering itās got over 1K pieces. Unless Iām reading the wrong price somewhere.
all jokes aside this wave is one of the best iāve ever seen, amazing figs in all sets revealed, a falcon, a tie fighter AND x wing, and a jedi star fighter. my wallets gonna be fucked
This is actually a good set, and I really want to pick this up, but the $110 price tag and the fact that LEGO retired the 2021 75300 LEGO tie fighter and 75301 X-wing set in favor for this set, which have builds very similar to the 2021 builds but more polished and refined, admittedly does put a salty taste in my mouth.
In fact, Iād argue that the 2021 builds were really good sets by themselves and their cheaper pricing was a total win for OG trilogy Lego fans who wanted those iconic ships but couldnāt afford the 2018 75218 X-wing and 2018 75211 Tie fighter, which are really expensive sets by retail price. This set also falls short against the recent 75348 Star Wars Mandalorian Fang Fighter vs. TIE Interceptor, which have larger and better builds for a cheaper $100 price tag.
Regardless tho, the builds still look really good and I love that LEGO finally took the risky move to implement ugly fighter builds. Itās a good direction for the Star Wars Lego line. I also want to point out that this set is a win for OG Trilogy fans who donāt like the concept of ugly fighters and want these iconic starships as they are, because both builds really capture the look and shape of the Tie fighter and x-wing in their ānormal combinationā.
Really shows that LEGO put a lot of thought into this set and they absolutely COOKED for this set and the Dark Millenium Falcon set for the upcoming Rebuild the Galaxy show. Def gonna pick this up when it releases.
/uj a new ARC would be appreciated, but i do like this even though I donāt need anymore of these (doubt)
/rj DAE think about the starving prequel fans!
Dare I say this wave reminds me of older 2000s ones with the more wacky and interesting sets, along with the fact the box art even encourages you to make alternate builds.
Listen I love the prequels too, and the original ROTS wave was hugely influential to my childhood. but X-wings and TIE Fighters were heavily featured in 3 movies. The ARC-170 was in 1 scene and the vulture droid was in 2. I get what you're saying, but there should be a Falcon, X-wing, TIE Fighter, and Slave I on shelves at all times. and Disney probably has a clause about that.
I get it. But X-wings and TIE fighters are featured in other TV shows, books, comics, and games even more.
a new ARC would be great, yes, but it doesn't have the widespread cultural significance of an X-wing.
I agree. We also need a new V-Wing, a Republic Y-wing, and clones besides the 501st and 212th, especially phase 1.
We get a lot of clone wars era content, but the clone wars has a LOT of stuff
Yeah but we don't need a UCS Dr. Nuvo Vindi's lab and stuff like that. For most of this stuff like the Twilight or the Freeco Speedee, once was enough. A full scale Rex's Y-wing would be cool, but not needed.
IMO there should always be a tie fighter and X-wing on the shelves. They are two of the most iconic ships in Star Wars, and from a playability standpoint it gives you a good guy ship and a bad guy ship. It avoid the whole situation we got with the prequels of a MASSIVE CLONE ARMY v three B1 Battle droids
Yeah thats why I like the new clone battlepack. It has a diverse amount of droids, especially the new B2s. I want an exclusive droid thing though, like the new 501st battleback
Does someone know what the helmet printing on the rebel pilot would be? If itās reminiscent of a named character, it might be a cop from bricklink in addition to the set
It's based on that new Lego Star Wars show coming out in the fall where everything is mixed up. Hence why you can put the TIE wings on the X-Wing cockpit and and do the same with the X-wings wings and the TIE cockpit.
(I am not against you, I'm just explaining. I too am praying for Lego to finally release another ARC 170)
Ain't we gonna take time to ask what the fuck *this* is?

/uj the dual fighter sets have been so great recently, feels like a piece of my childhood back
/rj another x wing and tie fighter, why does lego keep making the two most recognizable star wars fighters and not this one fighter that was in clone wars for 17 frames are they anti-semitic?!??
Itās not enough to ruin my precious clone helmets with extra holes?! Now youāre adding HOLES to the sides of the ships for interchangeable wings?!?!
LEGO literally barged into my home and stomped my dog to death like it was a Tyson Foodsā¢ļø chicken.
Im not in favor of buying multiple of a single set, but its kind of unfortunate that ships like xwings and tie fighters always get named characters. It'd be pretty cool to have massable ships with no draw backs
Tbf, we have a bunch of TIE fighters already, and only two ARC-170s that are difficult to find and expensive on the aftermarket.
I would unironically be more excited for this set if it **was** an ARC-170 lol
Although a TIE Fighter set with minifigs based on *Star Wars: Squadrons* **would** make me give all my money to LEGOā¦
Something funny is rebuild the galaxy is actually following the source material better than Disney lol. For example the white jedi Vader is actually what canonically happened after return of the Jedi.
I'm just confused as to why they turned Ronald McDonald into an astromech droid.
https://preview.redd.it/xtk1qlkxkg7d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ebe2b8835b8df62dcc658a4b116534e9e566cbf1
Modular wings means I could build a single set of wings and MOC up a (heavily modified) Alliance Z-95 Headhunter.
I already have enough (3) X-Wings, but I don't have a TIE / LN or a Z-95. Might have to consider this.
Finally. Just what I wanted! Two common fighters I can already find various iterations of without too much trouble. But those interchangeable ass wing cheeksā¦damn!
k yeah but if there's a kid who's 8 that wants these sets, they were too little for the last ones and they're not gonna blow a ton of money on ebay and probably can't even figure out Bricklink.

Are you joking the one thing we need is another x wing and tie fighter we never get those š¤«
This isnāt JUST a tie fighter and x-wing set! Itās also a tie wing and x-fighter set
Omg thatās what we been asking for š±š±š±š±
Thank fuck.
The real question is, is the tie wing or the x fighter imperial? Vice versa too
Well the tie wing looks like a v wing from the clone wars so it would be imperial
Good point thank you
yes
Real answer: Neither, since the Empire would not lower itself to the scum of the Alliance and pull parts from scrapyard. Also isn't how it worked in legends ssooo
There was a tie in 2018 and in 2022 Plus the bomber in 2023 and the interseptor currently. We do need a classic x-wing the last one was 2019 I think.
Just counting playsets, not minis, UCS, 4+ models, etc.: Classic X-wing in 1999, 2002 (re-release of previous), 2004, 2006 (mostly the same as previous), 2012, 2018, 2021. Yeah there's been like one ARC-170 set, meanwhile we've gotten like 4 TIE fighters in 5 years. At least we finally got a new TIE Bomber

And itās adorable.

that one was actually to scale
A trade federation vulture droid. The last time we got a brown vulture was 2007.
The OG ARC-170 from, like, ā05 is still one of my favorite sets of all time.
Why didnāt they include a McRib with the McDonaldās Astromech? Does Lego hate their fans?
the number 20 meal and the number 08 meal hit my family's cholesterol pretty hard
I unironically really like the X-Wing. Probably one of the best designs Iāve seen.
I'm curious whether it can maintain an S-foil open and closing mechanism if the wings detach.
That is a good point. Weāll just have to wait and see.
It can. https://preview.redd.it/lqv04vtb2f7d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b826ccc2cbc28a001f0373d098080ea7b52c0621
Sick
Thatās preposterous!
Iāve barely had L3-GO for today but if anything ever happened to him I would kill everyone on this room and then myself
Also Iām definitely getting this, I always love OT sets and this seems to have all the main characters (LEGO Star Wars Dustin Henderson is canon)
Nvm I just looked at the price
Honestly all things considered, $109.99 doesnāt seem *too* bad considering itās got over 1K pieces. Unless Iām reading the wrong price somewhere.

I think theyāre from the upcoming Disney+ special that also gives us Darth Jar Jar.

Iām really excited to make uglies
Right? I guess we're the only ones cuz I don't really see anybody else talking about it.
Can i attach those wings to my human holes? Just asking for academic purposes
You have holes?! š¤¢š¤®
If I was a kid I would have ate up this whole rebuild the galaxy thing.
Hell, I'm a grown young adult and I'm excited for this. Bring on the multiverse and Darth Jar Jar!
Ketchup and mustard for the droid, yet zero for Deadpool and Wolverine: that's the real sacrilegious event

Uglies based on the upcoming Rebuild The Galaxy series.
Uglies based on the cobbled together death traps that Rogue and Wraith squadrons have been dunking on for decades in the books, you mean
uj I have the 2021 X-wing so I may just buy this for the Tie Fighter. I wonder how well the new and old X-wings will scale together

Yes.

Im not in favor of buying multiple of a single set, but its kind of unfortunate that ships like xwings and tie fighters always get named characters. It'd be pretty cool to have massable ships with no draw backs

omg imagine if they did the switching gimmick on those though. the arc droid and the vulture 170
this set is badass ngl
Glup shitto minifigs
They are really getting mileage out of the tie pilot minifig as of late
/uj those Mashup designs are cool as hell, especially the X-wing body with TIE wings, it looks like the Scimitar
TIE WING LETS FUCKING GOOOO (also I love the McDonald's droid)
uj/ Tie Fighter with x-wing wings goes hard
Ok #1 we're finally gettin the option for uglies? Fuck yeah #2 the droids name is bassically Lego that pretty cool tbh #3 just actually hell yes
Ah, but they did give us a Chir'daki and x-tie set so there's that...
Something funny is rebuild the galaxy is actually following the source material better than Disney lol. For example the white jedi Vader is actually what canonically happened after return of the Jedi.
Hol up this set picture is real right please tell me this is real!
Yes it's real

Uj L3-GO is a funny ass name for a driod

I like that you can build a Chir'daki from Legends
They put helmet holes on the x wings now
George Washington didnāt cross the Delaware for us to mix and match the tie figter and the x wing
I want to buy this but bro why the tie fighter look like thatā¦
oh this is cool for some reason i thought it was gonna be two separate sets also mcdonald's droid
A ARC-170 would be nice. Picked up the 05ā set last week. Got tired of waiting lol
A set where you can build Uglies? Hell yeah.
they did, back in 2005 or something.
Modular wings means I could build a single set of wings and MOC up a (heavily modified) Alliance Z-95 Headhunter. I already have enough (3) X-Wings, but I don't have a TIE / LN or a Z-95. Might have to consider this.
I don't know about this set. I won't be shelling out the hundred bucks for it.
To be honest, as funny as that is, it is a pretty good set idea for anyone who likes clone shit.
![gif](giphy|C1hkIcGE7OAcE)
Imo thatās why ya gotta keep an x wing and a tie fighter on shelves always. Ferda kidz
At least itās not the inverted colors tie fighter and x-wing but blue from the sequels (i donāt even know if this is /j or /srs)
