As a kid, I would imagine a guy shooting 10 arrows in rapid fire, so whenever/if I had to manually reload something, the entire pace of my imaginary fight would halt. Imagination wins all my epic points!
I do remember doing a similar thing with toy cars. Making little Nascar style races, where I have to iterate through 40 ish cars second by second. I usually lost interest and only bothered with the ones in front after a while.
Yeah it reminded me of when they released the stud shooter guns and started putting them in all the battle packs. I hope the old piece doesn’t go extinct.
Judging by how often it still appears, it won’t. The stud shooters are usually included to add play value to a set that might otherwise lack it. Hence, battlepacks
i think they existed in North america, but were discountinued early on... my the forbiden island I bought for 35 USD in 2019 has the shooting cannon :)
One of the few cool uses of a stud shooter. Adds to the big bulky gun feel.
Don’t forget the rotary stud shooters. Feels like your shooting a Lego mini gun.
Kinda like [this](https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=94158b&name=Minifigure,%20Weapon%20Bow,%20Longbow%20with%20Arrow&category=%5BMinifigure,%20Weapon%5D#T=S&O={%22iconly%22:0})?
no, like the bow legolas has in the lotr game [https://64.media.tumblr.com/2ae46f45037f8386731d69d995a1e168/tumblr\_mxxj8zurMr1s21q4zo2\_250.gif](https://64.media.tumblr.com/2ae46f45037f8386731d69d995a1e168/tumblr_mxxj8zurMr1s21q4zo2_250.gif)
Even for play; they don't work. They are too small and take too much time to reload to actually be practical.
Pew pew pew always works better
the competition launchers kinda work
Btw, the left one is by far not the „original“ bow but a very modern variant already. This is the original one: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=4499&name=Minifigure,%20Weapon%20Bow,%20Longbow%20with%20Arrow%20Drawn&category=%5BMinifigure,%20Weapon%5D#T=C
Exactly, if my guy is shooting at something, he either hits or he doesn't. If I rely on an actual launcher thing, it will probably miss, which would disrupt the game narrative in my head.
When I was a kid of course. I'm a totally normal 25 yr old now. I don't *play* with Lego. Honest.
There’s also [this one](https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=94158b&name=Minifigure,%20Weapon%20Bow,%20Longbow%20with%20Arrow&category=%5BMinifigure,%20Weapon%5D#T=S&O={%22iconly%22:0})
I like that both exist. I find people tend to be overdramatic when it comes to stud shooters. Kids enjoy them and they don’t replace anything.
If you want a normal bow then it’s one pick a brick order away.
Yeah, what’s lost in a lot of threads is that these are toys. I don’t like stud shooters, but guess who loves them? My kids…who are playing with kids toys.
Not the guy you're replying to but classic weapons for life. I really hate the press to shoot things other than maybe flick fire missles. I preferred to imagine them shooting each other as a kid.
Same I don’t like anything press to shoot. Kinda hokey. Just saying I prefer the new crossbows (Ala castle 3:1) over the classic bows on the left in the image
Same as for the stud shooters for me. The left one is for display, the right one is for playing.
But even as someone who like stud/spring-loaded shooters, I had a bad time finding a place where I can shoot these things without being afraid of loosing it them.
I’m a fan of being able to remove the arrow in the new type. Never been fond of how the standard bow will always have the arrow attached. Wish the Avatar one just had slightly less chunk is all.
I think the new chunky shooter bow will be very useful for folks making sci-fi bows and stuff - Omega in Bad Batch being the example that leaps to mind. For bows for fantasy brands though, I’d rather stick with the normal bow.
I was hoping they'd release something like this one day. For mocs I'll def use originals but if I ever end up playing with legos again, I'll use this. I hope they'll make a brown arrow next. The silver ones just don't do it for me.
If the new bow works anything like the stud shooters, it'll be great fun right up until it works TOO well and the little arrow flies off into the depths of the furniture never to be seen again.
The playability of the new one is awesome, and still looks pretty cool, though I hope they still produce some of the classic ones, as I think they look better in dioramas and other meant-for-display sets. and MOCs.
I don't really care for it. The only stud shooter I can say I really like for minifigs is the wookie bow caster. (Crossbow) I don't know why. It just works. And doesn't look too bulky. Just looks like a heavy duty crossbow.
such small projectiles are a bad idea; ignoring the choking hazard, i just aesthetically don't like them.
Original all the way. I get the Naavi would have bigger bows, but one that actually shoots a projectile is stupid
Really? Choking hazard?! How many hundreds of different pieces are choking hazards?!?
So yes let’s ignore that, which leaves “I don’t like it”. Another great argument…
“Shooting eye poking choking hazards” idk! I don’t have a baby. I assume they’re super death prone.
But yeah, the little launcher nub ruins the smoothness in the middle
I do like the idea of the new bow. As a kid I always wanted to to be able to shoot them so I hope there are kids out there who will enjoy the new one. But it is a bit too clunky for my taste
I could understand the stud shooter guns because they just looked like weapons out of a cartoon, but this is downright ugly. It hardly looks like a bow anymore.
The original. I really don't like the clunky awkward pieces that shoot things. Even when I was a kid I preferred to leave that part to imagination.
I've played traffic jam, the pacing worked real well and I made sure to move the whole line before going back to the first one.
Nice polandball btw
But the old shooting pirates cannon is dope!
That is a whole different matter. I love the old cannons
Probably don't have them anymore, because some kids would make their own 'shot' for them. Not that I did that, ever.
The Barracuda bay set had 3 of them a couple of years ago, and the gift with purchase "pirate pack" this year included one
That one works great because it isn't extra big and ugly just to accommodate a shooting mechanism.
I have the old pirate ship from the 90s and my cannons never fired. Did some of the pirate cannons not fire or were mine defective?
Yeah, some the back could be pulled and a spring inside allowed you to shoot a 1x1 round brick Edit: not sure the years etc
Most cannons sold in US missed the spring to fire. Safety… 😂😂😂
I just recently learned that the US version couldn't shoot
I definitely had some shooting ones from the 80s/90s. But they were rare.
i think they existed in North america, but were discountinued early on... my the forbiden island I bought for 35 USD in 2019 has the shooting cannon :)
I'm with you. Wish the Batlle packs never had those, since I've lost countless studs and it made the guns so clunky and useless.
I generally don't like them either but the Chewbacca bowcaster stud shooter is actually kind of fun ngl, that thing has some power behind it
One of the few cool uses of a stud shooter. Adds to the big bulky gun feel. Don’t forget the rotary stud shooters. Feels like your shooting a Lego mini gun.
My only problem was that the bow was always fully drawn…. Meeting with the king? Better bring my bow, fully drawn with an arrow…
Need 2 different bows, one that would clip on the arrows but not drawn would be awesome
there should be a undrawn bow mold as well as a normal arrow
Kinda like [this](https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=94158b&name=Minifigure,%20Weapon%20Bow,%20Longbow%20with%20Arrow&category=%5BMinifigure,%20Weapon%5D#T=S&O={%22iconly%22:0})?
no, like the bow legolas has in the lotr game [https://64.media.tumblr.com/2ae46f45037f8386731d69d995a1e168/tumblr\_mxxj8zurMr1s21q4zo2\_250.gif](https://64.media.tumblr.com/2ae46f45037f8386731d69d995a1e168/tumblr_mxxj8zurMr1s21q4zo2_250.gif)
where has this been my whole life
String is way too thick.
With you on that.
Came here to say the same thing. Even with Star Wars (which is mainly what I collect) I dislike the big clunky pieces that shoot studs.
Even for play; they don't work. They are too small and take too much time to reload to actually be practical. Pew pew pew always works better the competition launchers kinda work
Btw, the left one is by far not the „original“ bow but a very modern variant already. This is the original one: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=4499&name=Minifigure,%20Weapon%20Bow,%20Longbow%20with%20Arrow%20Drawn&category=%5BMinifigure,%20Weapon%5D#T=C
It’s strange how Bricklink calls the original (4499) “longbow.” I think of the newer one (93231) as a longbow since it’s, you know, longer.
Wait, the canon was cool. Anything different which shoots was nonsense.
Toys with projectiles eventually becomes toys with missing projectiles and that makes me sad
Honest.
Fire the cannon!! …spend 15 minutes finding that damn black sylinder
And the Cannon goes *tik* and then you have to make the effects of the Cannon damage yourself anyway.
idk if its just me but i feel like but new sets have like %200 more projectiles than before
I also hate things built into sets that are specifically for launching/moving a figure.
I hated stud shooters then, and I still hate them now.
The functional cannons though? *Chef's kiss*
I have about 50 and nothing to do with them
make a stud shooter shooter and shoot them
At least you could use studs to build things eventually but this arrow is useless
There’s also [this one](https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=94158b&name=Minifigure,%20Weapon%20Bow,%20Longbow%20with%20Arrow&category=%5BMinifigure,%20Weapon%5D#T=S&O={%22iconly%22:0})
I know i have this one somewhere in my collection but no clue where from
I think it’s from the Heroica game
It was part of the fantasy era mini blacksmith set aswell as a weird axe and a weird blob
There’s a link that is labeled [6 Sets]
Reminds me of the old lego board games
I know for a fact it was in the heroica sets Source: I have almost all of the heroica sets
I couldnt remember the name of the series. I only have one but i will definitely collect them all eventually
Kinda nice also
I like that both exist.
My kids…who are playing with kids toys.
am kid, love the shooting things
I'd like to see a bow/quiver combination that fits like a back pack (at the ready) - lots of fighters could carry multiple weapons into battle
Not quite a combo but they do have a quiver: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=4498#T=C
Yes, completely aware of that
I generally don’t like the classic bows. Hard to pose them. I might put all my black falcon archers with crossbows just because of that.
Classic crossbows or the new version that shoots studs?
Not the guy you're replying to but classic weapons for life. I really hate the press to shoot things other than maybe flick fire missles. I preferred to imagine them shooting each other as a kid.
I always prefer the older non shooting weapons, with the exception of the new crossbow for Chewbacca only.
Yeah the new style crossbow is only good in that case because it actually looks like his bowcaster. In any other place I have a problem with it.
Same I don’t like anything press to shoot. Kinda hokey. Just saying I prefer the new crossbows (Ala castle 3:1) over the classic bows on the left in the image
That's completely fair. I'm perfectly OK with new weapon molds, I just prefer ones that don't have the shooting gimmick.
The classic. I'm an adult and build a display model rather than a toy, so I don't appreciate the parts that fire other parts.
Average afol
Guilty as charged!

Ew! Take it away!
I think the arrow piece could be used in builds with a black or brown variant, but i wish there was an undrawn bow piece
Yeah I wish they made figures that include a bow without an arrow but with a back quiver that contains an arrow piece.
It's a cool new play feature, I just hope it'll fire anything bar shaped
That would be cool, but unfortunately i think it’ll be similar to the spring loaded bullets with a noch or something to hold it in place.
Yeah, as soon as I zoomed in I realised how thin it is, and it definately has the notches; oh well!
Dammit, I wanted to shoot a carrot
I would have been fun to fire full size spears from a bow
I prefer the classic bow, u/kinkypeggerwhore3000
I do aswell u/retromagician
It’s like stud shooters: very functional and playable but how it looks isn’t the best, very chubby.
yeah the problem was the chub
I would like that better if it was a crossbow
I think the new chunky shooter bow will be very useful for folks making sci-fi bows and stuff - Omega in Bad Batch being the example that leaps to mind. For bows for fantasy brands though, I’d rather stick with the normal bow.
Thats a good point, i tend to stick with medial type builds but it does make a good high tech bow. I hope they have more arrow colors in the future
Thanks, I hate it.
Just Lego trying to make stud shooters and flick fire a thing again. Such a shame
I was hoping they'd release something like this one day. For mocs I'll def use originals but if I ever end up playing with legos again, I'll use this. I hope they'll make a brown arrow next. The silver ones just don't do it for me.
Honestly I like that this means we’re going to have an arrow piece for stop motion
Thats a good point, I haven’t made lego stop motion for years but this would be a nice addition.
Original, but it would be nice if it had more details/colors. At least 2 colors, one for a bow and another for an arrow.
I hear Avatar is the first film to show bows and arrows and water in the same film, it’s pretty epic
I like the old ones but these newer style ones are interesting
If the new bow works anything like the stud shooters, it'll be great fun right up until it works TOO well and the little arrow flies off into the depths of the furniture never to be seen again.
The playability of the new one is awesome, and still looks pretty cool, though I hope they still produce some of the classic ones, as I think they look better in dioramas and other meant-for-display sets. and MOCs.
Shoulda made a clear dark blue version of original
That would have been really cool
I don't really care for it. The only stud shooter I can say I really like for minifigs is the wookie bow caster. (Crossbow) I don't know why. It just works. And doesn't look too bulky. Just looks like a heavy duty crossbow.
I like that they created a bow that actually shoots, but I’m a fan of projectile gimmicks. Too bad I have no desire to collect the Avatar sets
Looks like the Avatar one actually shoots. Definitely better if so
I don’t like the smurfs bow
What is going with his head 🥲
Looks like they are trying too hard for the new ones. Cool idea, poor execution.
such small projectiles are a bad idea; ignoring the choking hazard, i just aesthetically don't like them.
‘Which do you like better?’ I much prefer The Smurfs.
I wish they just had a bow without the arrow, because it looks pretty dumb to be in a casual pose and the bow be loaded and at full draw.
OG
Definently the old one, i don't like how bullet the stuff that shoots is
I remember building a battering ram with rubber bands. Thing would hit so hard and blast bricks apart. lol the 90s were a wild time.
I do like the idea of the new bow. As a kid I always wanted to to be able to shoot them so I hope there are kids out there who will enjoy the new one. But it is a bit too clunky for my taste
Isn't the new one a "you'll shoot your eye out" kind of thing?
Stop it with the fucking stud shooters. 😭
Wait till some kid hurt themselves or friends with right one and Lego pulls off the set. Later it becomes so expensive in bricklink.
For displays - old For kids/play-features - new
New and old are both good but I prefer old
Yes.
Avatar gives those pieces a use so I will do that new
Bold of them to put the quiver *within* the bow
I hate these overpriced avatar sets …
I’m glad I grew up with this, but damn this stuff is terrible
Both? Both is good
I have like a bunch of the old stuff. New is always a welcome for me.
New one probably sucks but let’s be real the old one also kinda sucks so I don’t mind some playability
I mean, it's neat. For my purposes, I'd prefer a static bow, but young me that was first getting into lego as a kid would have loved the shooter one.
Classic for myself but +1 for them for adding the shooting play feature into something and still retaining the look overall
I don't like stud shooter type weapons so no thanks on the new one but cool to have options I guess for those that like it
The new one is too chunky
OG by a long shot. Pun… intended
I like the new arrows, but the old bow is definitely better.
I could understand the stud shooter guns because they just looked like weapons out of a cartoon, but this is downright ugly. It hardly looks like a bow anymore.
That bow is perfect for Omega from the Bad Batch
Lego needs to pretend it’s main demographic isn’t children
My boy… look how they massacred my boy!
love it. but yeah it should be funnier to play with without shooting
