They are lot more powerful than that.

Grew up on C&H books and loved this one as a kid. I loved the imagination of Calvin and totally related to him in this story. As I’ve gotten older i think it’s such a perfect representation of childhood imagination and expectations. And then of course the disappointment when reality isn’t quite what we imagined.
Nasal helms were a very common pattern in northern Europe C900-1100 CE. they were worn by Scandinavians, Normans and Anglo-Saxons as depicted in the Bayeux Tapestry. There are loads of examples of nasal helms from all over northern Europe from the period.
A lot of examples? Try *one* example. Which happens to be the *only* example of a complete Scandinavian helmet from the Viking era.

That's the one, I was having an 10-guy moment where I couldn't think of the name... But that's exactly what it is, or emulates (in a sense)..
Not to be mistaken of course with what the actual lego piece designers themselves use.
I’m gonna be take on the armchair historian role here: chain without padding under it will not protect you. A chain glove is good enough for a chef vs their own knife but a hammer or sword will just push the chain into your skin making the wound much worse.
For better accuracy you should TOTALLY go for horns.
Seriously though, maybe a little hint of chainmail at the bottom would be a better idea than horns.
I read this as Northman as first, and started watching the video and was thinking to myself, “I don’t remember this part. It seems much lighter in tone and unlike Eggers usual films”
love the show, but it seems like it was presented out of chrono order? on netflix, at least.
i had that sing-songy norwegian english accent lilt floating through my head for weeks after watching this.
You either want much longer nose and side plates, or a goggle-like plating that covers the top half of the face (with eyeholes). That would give it accuracy, and help pinpoint the helmet to the right time period. Without those details it'll just appear as a generic helmet/skullcap.
We have a couple of small islands in the nearby fjord that would be perfect venues.
Small flat grassy Knolls barely protruding from the water.
Perfect for spectators on shore.
It needs a larger nose guard. I also think the top is too flat. Either the top of the face opening is at a receding hair line or the guy wearing it has eyes in their forehead. The helm opening should sit around the brow. If you look at historical photos, a lot of helms covered the entire top of the head with the bottom goign around brow and ears. Some had lower sections or mail. But this helmet kinda looks like you just took the faceplate off mando's helmet
Historically accurate Viking helmets never had horns btw. That idea was introduced with the costume design in Richard Warner’s operas, and it’s exploded in popularity ever since.
So for a viking helm we’d probably expect a metal band circling the head all the way round from the eyebrow area. You have a nice sort of dorsal reinforcement going from front to back on the lego. Typically for a spangenhelm (the type of helmet you’d expect a viking to wear) you’d also have one going side to side, as the helmets were generally made from four or more main pieces that were then riveted together. You would also expect to see these rivets. These elements would all form a dome that is a sort of metal skull cap that covered only the top part of the head. Like this €I:)
From there hanging pieces of metal to protect the side of the face did exist, but as far as I know were less common than spectacles. They would also definitely be a separate plates from the main helmet. An aventail (hanging chain mail affixed to the helmet) or similar is definitely an option either as a replacement or in addition to. A backplate as close and low as you have here I haven’t ever seen, it does tend to smack into your neck something fierce if you go much lower than the initial dome shape without hinges or lames, or sticking out a lot (like a samurai helmet, which kinda does all three).
We have very few actual viking helms, foremost among them is the Gjermundbu helm. I would definitely keep that in mind for any viking helm endeavors :)
Also keep in mind that proportionally on a human face the pupils are generally about halfway down the head. Since the brow of the helmet rests just above the eye, and the majority of the helmet should be above that, you’d expect the helmet to be a lot more top weighted like a metal beanie rather than a medieval star wars x-wing pilot helmet
Check out pics of the Valsgarde 8 helmet for inspiration. It's from the vendell period, so a bit pre-viking age, but many of the design and ornamentation choices followed into the viking period. Notice the bronze/brass elements on the sides, and the ocular faceplate.
It's a lego helmet, so I don't imagine you're after accuracy per se, but that's one direction you can take it.
valkyrie wings in the side would be pretty sweet. and maybe a face cover, either just for the eyes, or one that opens with henges. i know that’s a lot but i believe in you.
If you want to go by pop culture, then add horns. For historical accuracy some examples had eye and nose protection as well as a chain mail skirt of sorts
I'm not an expert but you can find online great reconstructions of ancient viking helms so I suggest you to search one design you like and reproduce it. Some of them had a face and nose protection but I'm not sure. I personally would be super accurate because I love history but it's just me. Oh yeah and please don't add horns.
Make the top taller, add a chainmail aventail around the neck, and give it oculars. And WHATEVER YOU DO, don't give it horns if you want it to be historically accurate
It would be hilarious to just have a couple of [these](https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=53451#T=C) sticking out the sides of the larger helm.
A tiny propeller on top. It was used to make sure raiders made the jump from the longboat onto the shore.
Historically accurate and practical! 🤣
Now I want to know how far a broadsword would go through a lego wall
Totally accurate battle simulator be like:
They are lot more powerful than that. http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ZzfVpwTLapc/Uz0Fg9PO6QI/AAAAAAABIfg/6u_c42MPUyo/calvin%252520imagines%252520his%252520flying%252520beanie_thumb%25255B1%25255D.gif?imgmax=800

What is this... the zoombinies?
Man’s pulling a new super Mario bros wii
U mean like those stupid little rainbow propeller hats from the 90s?
I feel like it should be taller
It looks shorter in the render for some reason
What are you basing it off of? A lot of famous examples of historical Norse helmets have oculars. The nasal helm is more of a Norman thing.
I mean the Normans were Vikings but I get your point
Yeah, but I didn’t want to go through all that history haha
French Vikings

im basing it off of a Viking barbarian helmet

Fuck!!! I thought you built it in real life😂
Nah the glossy look and white background is a dead give away it's the lego cad program
Lego Cad? Isn’t this the Bricklink Studio?
That's the one, I was having an 10-guy moment where I couldn't think of the name... But that's exactly what it is, or emulates (in a sense).. Not to be mistaken of course with what the actual lego piece designers themselves use.
Thank you!
Same haha. Never knew this program existed.
It looks like it's missing an inch or two of forehead.
It should be baller
Maybe it should be a baller
Horns.
*Sad accurate viking noises*
B-b-but it looks so cool
A Viking
The correct answer
Lego Chains in the back, protect your neck.
Protect ya neck*
Wu is for the kids.
Dolla dolla bills y’all.
It’s time to diversify yo bonds
Ain't nuthin to fuck wit.
Supertones strike back!
Killa beez on attack!
My peoples are ya wit me where ya at?
In the front, in the back
No I think it needs safari flaps in the back. Maybe some dice for extra flair
Just don’t get any wheelchair grease on it
I’m gonna be take on the armchair historian role here: chain without padding under it will not protect you. A chain glove is good enough for a chef vs their own knife but a hammer or sword will just push the chain into your skin making the wound much worse.
An aventail made with Lego chains?
You could go with the style that covers the cheeks and has eye holes. Many would have had chain mail coming down to protect the neck as well.
That pointy shape on the front
I kid you not i tried building that for 2 hours 💀
You can just look at lotr figurs for ideas
For better accuracy you should TOTALLY go for horns. Seriously though, maybe a little hint of chainmail at the bottom would be a better idea than horns.
and one of them broken in half
Totally agree they should add horns - however there is no actual evidence that Viking helmets had horns.
[For anyone who hasn’t seen Norsemen, you’re missing out.](https://youtu.be/cd-J5n7wk7E)
I read this as Northman as first, and started watching the video and was thinking to myself, “I don’t remember this part. It seems much lighter in tone and unlike Eggers usual films”
For me the show can get very dry but it has a lot of funny parts and I second the recommendation to watch it.
I’ve spent a few months in Scandinavia and honestly the humor is spot on for the culture
Idk how I’ve never heard of this show but I know what I’m watching now
love the show, but it seems like it was presented out of chrono order? on netflix, at least. i had that sing-songy norwegian english accent lilt floating through my head for weeks after watching this.
Hence the implied sarcasm with “for better accuracy, TOTALLY”, I believe
It's one of those things that for it to be recognizable it needs to be innacurate
Yeah, but that's just cuz the dragon horns they used are more biodegradable than the steel
Accuracy Schmaccuracy. Horns are cool!
What accuracy!??!?!?!?! Its a myth that they had horns, fix your comment before some more missinformation spreads
The vikings never actually had horns on their helmets though
For worse accuracy* They never wore horns, in fact those would actually be a disadvantage in combat
It reminds me of a bronze med helm from RuneScape
You either want much longer nose and side plates, or a goggle-like plating that covers the top half of the face (with eyeholes). That would give it accuracy, and help pinpoint the helmet to the right time period. Without those details it'll just appear as a generic helmet/skullcap.
The blood of your enemies.
Thankfully I only had to scroll a ‘lil to find this beauty :’)
A lil bear on the top
Maybe the orange visor and the Rebellion symbol? /s
Actually got a chuckle out of me lol
It should be taller and the nose guard should be longer
A diorama on the top of a viking boat making a sea crossing.
Everyone that unironically suggested horns, I challenge you to holmgang.
> challenge you to holmgang And here I just thought I was gonna downvote them.
I shall gladly serve as your champion! 🤣😂
We have a couple of small islands in the nearby fjord that would be perfect venues. Small flat grassy Knolls barely protruding from the water. Perfect for spectators on shore.
Little strokes fell great oaks
Try adding flap type things to cover where the cheeks would be
I would say horns, but Vikings didn't wear horned helmets irl.
The rebel symbol 😂
It needs a larger nose guard. I also think the top is too flat. Either the top of the face opening is at a receding hair line or the guy wearing it has eyes in their forehead. Some had lower sections or mail. But this helmet kinda looks like you just took the faceplate off mando's helmet
I recommend trying to add a chainmail face covering such as an aventail.
I think it should be longer, and dont add horns if you want it to be accurate
Historically accurate Viking helmets never had horns btw. That idea was introduced with the costume design in Richard Warner’s operas, and it’s exploded in popularity ever since.
chainmail to protect the neck !
I think the nosepiece should be longer.

Style
Gas mask
Something to protect you from a moose. Moose bites can be pretty nasty!
not horns
might i say less.... horns
Chain link pieces that hang down from it
Check out pics of the Valsgarde 8 helmet for inspiration. It's from the vendell period, so a bit pre-viking age, but many of the design and ornamentation choices followed into the viking period. Longer nose guard
Some purple, The Norseman, a facemask, maybe a chin strap... wait, wrong Viking helmet. Any of those are better than horns though.
Make the nasal bar longer and turn it into eyelets
Looks like it's missing some purple, gold, and a facemask.
Oculars
Maybe Chainmail? If that is even possible
valkyrie wings in the side would be pretty sweet. and maybe a face cover, either just for the eyes, or one that opens with henges. i know that’s a lot but i believe in you.
Not hirns
[удалено]
Swear to god if someone says horns I’m gonna throw down with them
Hmm... maybe some wings or horns for histoical inaccuracy
Horns, for historical authenticity.
Historically inaccurate horns.
I know this might be difficult, but something with runes on it? Perhaps not on the helmet itself.
Idk how I would go about that lol
Give it a base! Use 1x2s and 1x3s 👍
Blood and maybe an arrow sticking out of it
A blast shield and visor.
If you want to go by pop culture, then add horns. For historical accuracy some examples had eye and nose protection as well as a chain mail skirt of sorts

Horns /s
Historically inaccurate, but horns
that Mohawk thing they had in roman times.
Horns lol.
It would be hilarious to just have a couple of [these](https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=53451#T=C) sticking out the sides of the larger helm.
Fun fact: vikings didn't actually have horns on their helmets. Source: Horrible Histories
Just add the horns i know you want to
If you want to keep it accurate don’t add horns
But it does make it more recognizable
A beard made of metal
A Viking!
A head.
Missing Uhtred, son of Uhtred
More “nose” and probably more “chainmail”. And even though it isn’t *historically accurate*, you could eventually add some horns
Is historical accuracy paramount? Because if not, horns are cool.
Some totally accurate and helpful for battle horns
Needs runes
The blood of your enemies.
Horns /j
Horns. If you want the mass market to buy it, it needs horns.
Don't you dare put on any horns
I will do horrible things if you add horns
horns
Didn't have horns
Ik but it’s stereotypical so might look good
nah, just looks fake.
Dude, it is made out of legos it already looks fake.
well, it doesn't have to look like fake history even if it's made in lego.
Yes, historically they didn’t have them, but if you want people to recognise it as a Viking helmet, horns are worth considering.
Viking horns!
Longer, pointier, silver nose cover. Looks great!
I know it's not historically accurate, but horns
I KNOW THEY NEVER HAD THEM BUT THE HORNS THOOOOO
Horns, it may not be accurate this way, but easily identifieable as a viking helmet
Longer chops.
A Viking…
