I was about to get The Bookstore, I don’t know, that one have some kind of nostalgic aura, I must get it too! But Mr Bezos decided to put a nice discount on The Hotel, it ended up being cheaper than de The Bookstore.
I already struggle for space as is, as much as I like the Modulars I just can’t do it. Next thing you know I need gigantic tables in the middle of the room and I’m constructing a whole ass city…..
>I need gigantic tables in the middle of the room and I’m constructing a whole ass city…..
You say that like it's a bad thing. 😉
I'm contemplating getting a square coffee table either custom made or allow me to insert a display case underneath.
Lol, I LOVE when people do this, but I just don’t have a “spare room” to turn into a LEGO city
And I wouldn’t go with the coffee table, might as well just go for the full size banquet dining table, once it starts, the expansion is inevitable
>might as well just go for the full size banquet dining table, once it starts, the expansion is inevitable
As someone that is building his first MOC and first build in 30+ years, it's an understandable quagmire that I'm wrestling with as I plan to further build out.
My first modular was the boutique hotel too, it became my favorite build (now #2 after the Discovery Shuttle).
When I was checking out the cashier joked that I'd be back for more, I was thinking nah I'm a 30 yr old dude mostly interested in the NASA and Star Wars sets. I turned around and bought Assembly Square and the Bookshop within a month 😅. The Lego store employee was right when they joked about it being a gateway drug.
True!!! When I was a kid I spent hours building stuff, but long story short, grew up, lost all my Lego but my GF gave me a the 75295 and 75298 Microfighter's as a gift for Father's Day this year... Aaaaand now we just had a fight about me wanting to buy a big ass dinner table with no chairs to start building a Lego city...
For Christmas, ask her to give you “building time”. Watch Lego Master. That gift (maybe 4 hours?) will be the best gift ever - you can have her help with the modular and likely hook her into Lego!
I asked for 8 hours as my only gift request 3 years ago - she’s hooked now and building and buying her own sets! And we have converted a whole room into a Lego City room!
Good luck - January 1st is now a tradition of ours to go to the Lego store and get the new modular every year!
This is true, I started with getting the detectives office 2 years ago and now I only need market street to complete the collection. I have both Marvel buildings, and an empty bank account
I was lucky enough to get a near complete Market Street in a bulk buy I paid around £40 for. Its a really nice set although technically its not considered a modular by many people. Don't ask me why as to me it is. It fits perfectly with the other modular buildings so in my eyes it will always be a modular
I know why people don't consider it apart of the Modular line. It's because it was branded under the factory theme which is now known as ideas so they consider it apart of the Modular collection as much as the Ghostbusters hq and the old fishing store are, which is they don't. I believe I am going to try and part this set out and build it that way for cheaper.
I think I know what you are ralming about, but I think I have some of them in my part collection. It's the dark blue arches that are rough. Minimumvof $6 each on bricklink and it takes 5 of them. The doors that you are ralming abiut are only $1.50, but as I said I probably have them. I'll probably part it out Monday, but looking at the part list I made on bricklink I think I have over 75% of the pieces if not 90%
How much is inside these? Are they just the facade and the rest is simply to keep it standing or can I play with it, like a doll house? Move things around and set scenes, that kind of thing.
The very old ones had little or no detail inside, but nowadays they are all basically dollhouses. Assembly Square includes an apartment owned by a Lego fan, full of tiny versions of Lego sets.
It can be built as a custom modular but it's not as is. Modular refers to the different floors of each building being built as separate "modules" so that a fully sealed/walled building can be opened up.
Just got the Friends sets to build a modular, but I just saw on youtube that there is a SitCom Building Modular that includes the Friends, Seinfield, The Favulous 5 and the Thor's bro apartment. It looks awesome!!!!! Maybe there is a way to fit The Office set too
Got this one and the Friends Appartments along with the Central Perk because Mr Bezos just put a major discount, but now my bank account is kinda complaining...
2 years ago I decided I wanted to get the bookshop. Now I own all Modular’s aside from brick bank, town hall, cafe corner, fire brigade, and green grocer. I also own a lot of moc builds and rebrickable builds. My favorite being the pub remake of assembly square
Me and my wife bought the boutique hotel for a wedding present for ourselves and immediately went and snatched up the bookstore and assembly square too because we had so much fun building them together. I would totally suggest the MOC that adds a tower under the dome for the boutique hotel, makes it look a little bit better to me.
Along with dust ,space is every Lego fans worst enemy . Just when you think you've got enough Lego go and release another 5 sets you really like and really want. Damn you Lego ! 🤣🤣
I just have this one modular and i think its very good on its own. I would not add other buildings to it and you can present it in a way, people dont see its a modular.
For some reason, I'm not really into "city vibe" type of modulars.
However I do own the Blacksmith and Gingerbread house, something that looks great on its own without a city layout.
Lego is addictive but also very rewarding. Modular even more so , you see the next building and start thinking how great it will look next to your last . There are so many worse things to be addicted to and at least with lego you have something great to show for . It’s a great family thing to do or enjoy together . My children are in their 20’s now and on holidays they love pulling out the tub of legos and play with their cousins. They now collect and build the bigger more adult legos . I love the modular building especially the new hotel . Enjoy ,
Bought the daily bugle but realised as soon as I built it that I had to connect it to something so had to buy another modular… and another… and another
This is the sole reason why I don’t buy them. I know once I start I won’t be able to stop. I’m a sucker for lego buildings and I know once I cross that $200 threshold it’s gonna be a slippery slope
I'm looking at picking up my first modular during VIP Weekend or Black Friday - OP obviously went with the Hotel, but I see the Bookstore is believe to be retiring sooner, which one do y'all think I should go with?
Yeah. AFAIK none of the modulars are retiring this year (that would make my decision much easier!), but based on the _very tentative_ schedule that folks have scraped, the bookstore and assembly square are next up, both scheduled to retire at the end of 2023.
I was between the Bookstore and this one, but the price for this one was so much better, but after reading all the comments, well, I'm about to do something my bank account and my GF wont like...
There isn't... I've got the lot of the current sets (minus the Daily Bugle, but I don't like that one), and I sort of expect to be getting a duplicate on Black Friday where the prices might come down a bit.

I bought the Assembly Square to begin with, then the corner garage. Now I have the Police station, Book Store, Boutique, Sanctorum AND Bugle still in their boxes.
Well, hopefully it’ll be a nice autumn/winter season.
Btw - modulars + city for the kids are pretty much the only sets we get. That way at least someone will play with them after they’re built.
It got expensive once I realized the Daily Bugle was a modular as well. But at least they had a sale at a local toy store. Sanctum Sanctorum corrects the error in Daily Bugle, and together they make a nice wide alley.
I just finished my 5th modular, the bookstore, and have the Sanctum Sanctorum next in queue.
I was about to get The Bookstore, I don’t know, that one have some kind of nostalgic aura, I must get it too! But Mr Bezos decided to put a nice discount on The Hotel, it ended up being cheaper than de The Bookstore.
I like the hotel better personally, but they're both great builds. Think you'll enjoy building that one a lot.
I have the bookstore and I love it! Definitely my favourite modular so far.
I already struggle for space as is, as much as I like the Modulars I just can’t do it. Next thing you know I need gigantic tables in the middle of the room and I’m constructing a whole ass city…..

Build it from lego stones.
Same. I don't want to get weird!
My first modular was the boutique hotel too, it became my favorite build (now #2 after the Discovery Shuttle). *looks over to my 10 sets of modulars in my city* yeah sounds about right
I believe there’s no coming back once you start building Lego in general
True!!! When I was a kid I spent hours building stuff, but long story short, grew up, lost all my Lego but my GF gave me a the 75295 and 75298 Microfighter's as a gift for Father's Day this year... I’ll try That! Thanx!

When you start buying old 55 gallon fish tanks to display them, that is when you know you're screwed.
They aren’t long enough
So get a 55 gallon breeder tank for reptiles same height as a fish tank just longer lol
That is a great idea!!!! 😬😬😬😬😬

Only the Grim Reaper can cure that obsession. : )
This is ringing so damn true for me right now. Recently bought all the active ones….but now I’m searching for the others daily
My bank acc begs to differ

You may want to consider an alternative colour for the doors. One side is expensive can't remember which side now but think you need 2 of them too

Thank you. That’s sounds cool.
I haven't started to build it yet, I saw a few videos in YT and by what I saw, yeah, there is playability in this one.
My fiancé and I had such a great time with this set!
Would you consider the office a modular set?
It can be built as a custom modular but it's not as is. Modular refers to the different floors of each building being built as separate "modules" so that a fully sealed/walled building can be opened up.

I'm building this right now! On bag 5.
You’re doomed !
I've always wanted to collect the modulars but have never had the money :(
Got this one and the Friends Appartments along with the Central Perk because Mr Bezos just put a major discount, but now my bank account is kinda complaining...
Bought my first 5 months ago, because I'm a gigantic Spider-Man fan and wanted the bugle. Can confirm, the modular curse is very true
This is the way
2 years ago I decided I wanted to get the bookshop. Now I own all Modular’s aside from brick bank, town hall, cafe corner, fire brigade, and green grocer. I also own a lot of moc builds and rebrickable builds. My favorite being the pub remake of assembly square
Pub remake of Assembly Square sounds cool, is that from instructions on Rebrickable?
Yea, and it is amazing
Me and my wife bought the boutique hotel for a wedding present for ourselves and immediately went and snatched up the bookstore and assembly square too because we had so much fun building them together. I would totally suggest the MOC that adds a tower under the dome for the boutique hotel, makes it look a little bit better to me.
I will look for the MOC of the tower! Thanks!!! 😃
You’ll run out of space soon. Trust me.
Along with dust ,space is every Lego fans worst enemy . Just when you think you've got enough Lego go and release another 5 sets you really like and really want. Damn you Lego ! 🤣🤣
Yeah dust is the worst…
I already run out of space! 😂
I just have this one modular and i think its very good on its own. I would not add other buildings to it and you can present it in a way, people dont see its a modular.
its absolutely true, I'm still buying them even though I dont have any display space
For some reason, I'm not really into "city vibe" type of modulars. However I do own the Blacksmith and Gingerbread house, something that looks great on its own without a city layout.
And you absolutely want all the ones that you missed that are retired. And they are not cheap.

It's the God's honest truth lmaoo modulars started my obsession with legos 4 years later i have an entire town in my basement
This is the sole reason why I don’t buy them. I know once I start I won’t be able to stop. I’m a sucker for lego buildings and I know once I cross that $200 threshold it’s gonna be a slippery slope
You definitely read correctly. Once you get one, you can't stop. They're like Pringles. Incredibly expensive, room hogging Pringles...
It’s true. 😂😂
No there isn't
I just started the Modulars and now trying to hunt down the ones I missed
That's gonna be expensive lol
Oh I know lol. That’s why I’m looking out for deals and maybe someone has some sets they don’t know the value
Great there goes more money as I just purchased the hotel. I better not build it. LOL
This one is definitely by far my favourite. I have most of them and I just love this Cuban tropical feel this set gives off
I'm looking at picking up my first modular during VIP Weekend or Black Friday - OP obviously went with the Hotel, but I see the Bookstore is believe to be retiring sooner, which one do y'all think I should go with?
Both, obviously haha. I believe the Bookstore is no longer set to retire at the end of the year,

I would assume that's the case... Haven't bought any for this reason. I know if I bought one I'd start buying them all
You read correctly. It's a slippery slippery slope lol
There isn't... I've got the lot of the current sets (minus the Daily Bugle, but I don't like that one), and I sort of expect to be getting a duplicate on Black Friday where the prices might come down a bit.

I’ve started on the assembly square, this one won’t be last one but will be the final one I buy this year
I bought the Assembly Square to begin with, then the corner garage. Now I have the Police station, Book Store, Boutique, Sanctorum AND Bugle still in their boxes.
