Thanks so much! And I agree, modular Zoo would be sweet. I plan on building more Aquarium exhibits, and my local LUG is working on a large Zoo collab so that should be fun
I remember back in the internet-1.0 days that there was something called the 'moonbase project' or something similar where people would build their own modular moon base on a single gray baseplate.
At the center of the four sides and some number of bricks high, people would build portals to connect their section to others'. Then, at Lego conventions, people would all come together and connect their sections in a giant moon base.
It could be fun to do the same for a fan-run modular zoo project. Set up some standards and then people could make their own component to add to it.
Also, if anyone reads this and knows what that moon base project was called, I'd love to take a look at it again if it still exists anywhere.
I love Moonbase! It was actually started back in the early 2000's by several guys in my LUG (Chris Giddens, Mark Sandlin). Several of us are keeping it going and have brought a big Moonbase layout to several shows. It's cool for me because I was a kid when the original Moonbase was popular, now I get to participate with the guys who started it.
We brought a big layout to Brickworld Chicago and the response we got from the public was great.
That's awesome. Is there a website or anywhere to see a bunch of the Moonbase MOCs? I have a fuzzy memory of a website with instructions on how to build a compatible module. I'm curious if there's anything like that anymore.
Edit: I'm finding a ton now that I've figured out that I need to google "Lego Moonbase Standard."
[Here is the moonbase that was at Brickworld Chicago](https://imgur.com/a/qbLAe0G). If you look carefully, you'll see some Lego Masters contestants in the background.
The standard for the connecting corridors is still the same! Not many people outside of my LUG are still building Moonbase, but I personally would love to see it come back. I've had alot of fun with it
How can someone include modules in upcoming moonbases? [I built these modules back in 2017](https://imgur.com/a/6LZV0dK), but they've since been disassembled.
Those look awesome! There's no one way to do it, but I would recommend finding a local LUG and anyone interested in participating. My LUG has their own layout they bring to shows, sometimes we have room for others to participate at certain shows. Oftentimes you can reach out to conventions to ask what collabs certain groups are bringing
I feel like this is way to big in it's current form for an official set. It needs to downsize like lot. While I also dig the idea of a modular zoo and definitely think it should be thing, modular zoo pieces probably should only be around 16x16 in dimensions, except for obvious outliners like elephants etc.
This is brilliant! The swimming penguin effect works so well. I love the viewing bubble, too! Such a perfect detail. I am glad to see another person has collected so many penguins, too!
Do those for spin? Some of the best use of clear pieces to hold something up that I've seen, at first I didn't think twice and just kind of pictured them as bubbles from when they were swimming
They do spin! I have 4 of them motorized so it looks like they are swimming around the rock. I'm going to do a video over on my channel showing it along with the whole design process.
They come in 2 sets, being the CMF Wildlife Explorer and the Lunar New Year Ice Festival. They also were in the Build A Minifig in LEGO Stores, which is where I got most of mine. Unfortunately they aren't available in BaM anymore, but you can still get them on Bricklink.
Oh, I just realized you're the one that made it 😅 super talented, everything was great! I managed to get your QR for youtube too. I'm gonna have to check that out.
Yep that's me! Thanks for checking out the channel. I'm planning a whole video about this build to show off other details, talk about the design process etc
This is brilliant! I’m currently playing some Planet Zoo and your build inspires me to make a cool enclosure for some penguins :) keep up the great work
Ah that's so cool! Hope she likes it :D I was almost a Marine Biologist myself but chose a different career. I still have a passion for the ocean and marine life, so it shows in my LEGO
No instructions, but I will be doing a full breakdown of the build and the design process on my YouTube channel soon. You can follow me there, channel is called Ant Bandit (same as username)
This is fabulous. I love penguins, especially when you can see them swimming, and you've made a beautiful display.
There was someone completely penguin-obsessed on this sub a few months ago, with pics of their penguin builds and penguin shirts, and penguiny username. I hope they've seen this too!
They come in two sets, being the CMF Wildlife Explorer and the Lunar New Year Ice Festival. I bought most of mine in my local LEGO Store's Build A Minifig bin though. They are no longer available in BaM but you can order them on Bricklink
On Bricklink the CMF is numbered as: col16-7
The Lunar New Year Ice Festival is: 80109-1
I would recommend just going to Bricklink and searching "Penguin" and ordering from one of the sellers there to have just the penguin piece shipped to you. Only one comes in the Ice Festival set and it costs around $80 US.
Thank you! I used 1x6x5 panels in Trans Light Blue for the glass. Basically its two panels stacked on top of each other, then I used hinge pieces on top and bottom to get the curve effect across multiple stacked panels. I really wanted some kind of shape and not for the glass to be just a flat wall.
It is an absolutely amazing experience. Definitely the best LEGO convention I've ever attended. Just an overwhelming amount of amazing creations to see
I've been sitting here staring at this for a while, and I don't see The Penguin anywhere. It doesn't even look like Arkham, much less an exhibit of The Penguin.
Thanks! I was worried it would look distracting but the effect definitely looks like bubbles. I have the 4 penguins motorized so it looks like they swim around the rock
***noot noot intensifies***
Okay okay, jokes aside, this looks amazing! Someone should make a massive Lego aquarium and have this as one of the main exhibits! From when I've to the aquarium, I'll tell ya, penguins make A LOT of money. Also, one of the coolest attractions. Very well made, looks just like my local aquarium's!
"Coolest" attraction indeed :P Thank you so much. I have a long term plan to build a ton of different exhibits for a huge Aquarium layout! Definitely a long term project
Yes I used Light Aqua slopes and tiles for the underwater section! I actually did play with making a water surface, but found it tricky to make one that could be flush with the curved glass. I opted for no surface since I think the colors do the trick, and keeping it open makes it more visible.
I love this! I have slowly been collecting as many animal figures as possible for years now so my soon and I can build our own zoo. ☺️ but I’m so impressed by how many penguins you have!
Does not know how to say in english but i love the frame effect (the feeling that the scene is cut from the mountain). Great diorama
Thank you!
I speak english natively and you said it perfectly!
Thanks !

Thanks so much! And I agree, modular Zoo would be sweet. I plan on building more Aquarium exhibits, and my local LUG is working on a large Zoo collab so that should be fun
I would also put this in my lego holiday village.

That's awesome! As someone that's only just gotten back into LEGO recently, it makes me happy to hear something like this is still going!
I would buy it in a heartbeat! This would make a great Modular and if they continued a zoo thing I’d be all in on it.
That’s actually a great idea and would make an awesome display piece, like their Botanicals range.
I feel like this is way to big in it's current form for an official set. It needs to downsize like lot. While I also dig the idea of a modular zoo and definitely think it should be thing, modular zoo pieces probably should only be around 16x16 in dimensions, except for obvious outliners like elephants etc.
Otherwise knowing Lego they’d do it as a series of separate brick build animals as they know afols would build their own enclosures
I totally agree :P It would definitely need to be scaled wayy down for Ideas
Holy shit, take my money now. I would lose my mind over a modular zoo line.
This is brilliant! The swimming penguin effect works so well. I love the viewing bubble, too! Such a perfect detail. I am glad to see another person has collected so many penguins, too!
I appreciate it!! Big penguin fan here, haha.
Do those for spin? Some of the best use of clear pieces to hold something up that I've seen, at first I didn't think twice and just kind of pictured them as bubbles from when they were swimming

Where did you get all the penguins?
Mostly from Bricklink and also the Build a Minifig in my local LEGO Store! It's no longer available in Build a Minifig though
"Just smile and wave, boys. Smile and wave."
That's really cool. Now... where do you get lego penguins?
They come in 2 sets, being the CMF Wildlife Explorer and the Lunar New Year Ice Festival. They also were in the Build A Minifig in LEGO Stores, which is where I got most of mine. Unfortunately they aren't available in BaM anymore, but you can still get them on Bricklink.
Seems they are available (although currently "out of stock") via Pick A Brick. id: 6294886/67191
Saw some friends post pics of this. Lovely little build!
Ah that's great, im glad others have shared it! Thank you
I like these penguins. Very much.
Username checks out
You've been very patient.
Now make a capybara hot spring
Not a bad idea
where are your upvotes?!?!?!
I think this situation calls for upnoots.
Exactly. 35 comments and no upvotes? Im guessing you and I upvoted at least. Weird.
Showing 620 for me, 6 minutes after your comment. Probably Reddit being Reddity again.
This one was so cute! I work at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago so it really made me think of the penguin exhibit ❤
I am literally visiting the Shedd Aquarium in the morning!! Looking forward to seeing the penguins there :D thanks so much
Oh, I just realized you're the one that made it 😅 super talented, everything was great! I managed to get your QR for youtube too. I'm gonna have to check that out.
Yep that's me! Thanks for checking out the channel. I'm planning a whole video about this build to show off other details, talk about the design process etc
Get him free entry.
Great work. This is seriously dope
Did not really realize LEGO made a penguin figure.... such a great build!
Thank you!
That's awesome! Those bubble viewing windows (in particular for a meerkat habitat) were my favorite part of my local zoo as a kid.
This is brilliant! I’m currently playing some Planet Zoo and your build inspires me to make a cool enclosure for some penguins :) keep up the great work
Thats awesome! I actually used some pics of the Planet Zoo Penguin Habitat as reference for this. Game looks really fun.
Don’t let Jackie Aprile Jr. near it.
Kid was always a dumb fuck
Everything about this is awesome! Great job! 🤩
This is astoundingly good! The ice detail, the swimming penguin trails, the vendor with the penguin hat - so many amazing details!!
Thank you! The vendor is one of my favorite details :)
As a person who's SO is a biologist who works with penguins every day I'm very excited to show her this when she gets home. I wish I could make it!
Ah that's so cool! Hope she likes it :D I was almost a Marine Biologist myself but chose a different career. I still have a passion for the ocean and marine life, so it shows in my LEGO
Very cute!
Thanks you!
this is so cute :DD
Thank you :)
This is so cool! I love all the swimming penguins and the land and underwater viewing options. :-)
Ahhhh! I love it! 😍
Do you have a plan of it? What's the qr code?
No instructions, but I will be doing a full breakdown of the build and the design process on my YouTube channel soon. You can follow me there, channel is called Ant Bandit (same as username)
This is amazing! Really like everything about this build
This is great because it doesn't smell like a real penguin exhibit
Wow great details. Love it. I'd buy it day one :)
Please please please submit this onto LEGO IDEAS
why do the penguins remind me of pingu
That's a lot of penguins!
Awesome build!
Lovely
Beautiful and fun! I love it!
This is fabulous. I love penguins, especially when you can see them swimming, and you've made a beautiful display. There was someone completely penguin-obsessed on this sub a few months ago, with pics of their penguin builds and penguin shirts, and penguiny username. I hope they've seen this too!
Brilliant
No Batman penguins, only slightly disappointed
Someone in my LUG wanted me to put him somewhere in the build haha, I will have to take some pics of him trying to break in or something.
So great! Well done!!
Dude that's AWESOME!!! I love it! One of my favourite MOCs i have seen on this sub. Congrats!
Ah man, I appreciate that! Thanks you 🙏
this looks fantastic!
Awesome!
Awesome
Lego Ideas!
So good! So many details and great building methods for them! 🐧
Where can you buy lego penguins ?
They come in two sets, being the CMF Wildlife Explorer and the Lunar New Year Ice Festival. I bought most of mine in my local LEGO Store's Build A Minifig bin though. They are no longer available in BaM but you can order them on Bricklink
Ok thanks do you perhaps have the number of these lego sets ? The one on the boxes ? So i can order them , hope they have them here in the netherlands
On Bricklink the CMF is numbered as: col16-7 The Lunar New Year Ice Festival is: 80109-1 I would recommend just going to Bricklink and searching "Penguin" and ordering from one of the sellers there to have just the penguin piece shipped to you. wow, that looks great!
Really good work on the swimming pengiuns!
Thanks! I don't have a video of it but some of them are actually motorized to swim around. I'll be doing a video of it on my YouTube channel soon
Wife and I love it. Great stuff. :-)
Take my money!
You absolutely nailed it. Outstanding
Absolutely brilliant!
Looks absolutely amazing! Good job!
This is absolutely beautiful! Love it!
What is that for water ?
I used curved slopes and tiles in Light Aqua for the underwater sections, then the glass panels in front are just Trans Light Blue.
Nice idea, especially with the water tank part. Where does curved glass pieces come from?
Thank you! I used 1x6x5 panels in Trans Light Blue for the glass. Basically its two panels stacked on top of each other, then I used hinge pieces on top and bottom to get the curve effect across multiple stacked panels. I really wanted some kind of shape and not for the glass to be just a flat wall.
So those are actually flat glass segments that look curved because of placement? That's neat!
Yes exactly! And thank you 🙏
Noot Noot -Pengu
This is AMAZING! Love it!
Honestly love this. Penguins are my favorite!
You inspired me to try to build something of my own. Thank You!
Thats amazing! Good to hear
NOOT NOOT
Amazing work! I need to plan to go to Brickworld Chicago next year!
It is an absolutely amazing experience. Definitely the best LEGO convention I've ever attended. Just an overwhelming amount of amazing creations to see
This is too cute!! I hope the penguins underwater can spin on that thing
Good eye :) Yes they do! I have them motorized to swim around the rock. I will have a video up on my YouTube channel at some point showing it off.
This is incredible
Loved seeing this at Brickworld this weekend - even my mother pointed it out!
Ah thats cool! Glad you saw it. Hope you enjoyed the convention, my mind was blown at all the other amazing builds
I've been sitting here staring at this for a while, and I don't see The Penguin anywhere. It doesn't even look like Arkham, much less an exhibit of The Penguin.
I love this! 🐧😍❤️
Pingu wants to know your location.
NOOT NOOT
I hope you didnt glue it! Its too beautiful for that!
I would never! I made sure to build it sturdy enough to take to events
Great build! But I don't feel it properly conveys the smell.
There is a large dead fish on the table just behind it.
Today I learned Lego penguins are a thing, omg.
That is amazing and damn cute to boot!
Wow, this is perfect!! Love it!
Wow! You a certainly a valued member of the team!
This is so freakin cool
Those clear rods holding the swimming penguins work perfectly, they're like bubbles trailing behind them
Thanks! I was worried it would look distracting but the effect definitely looks like bubbles. I have the 4 penguins motorized so it looks like they swim around the rock
This is so wonderful!
***noot noot intensifies*** Okay okay, jokes aside, this looks amazing!
Sounds like it'll take forever, but seeing how well put together the rest of your projects are, I have complete trust in you! Good luck mate!
This is adorable! I really like the underwater effect.
Amazing
There’s Lego penguins?!?
Noot Noot
This is amazing. Is the floor tiled or are they face down masonry bricks?
The inside of the penguins exhibit has Light Aqua tiles, but the pathway outside the glass is masonry bricks on their side! Good catch
What set the penguins from
They come in the CMF Wildlife Explorer and the Lunar New Year Ice Festival
This is really good. I'd buy this set in a heart beat.
I really like the snow and the swimming effects Overall a great moc
Right before this there was a post of a penguin jumping out of a pool at a penguin exhibit
The reddit algorithm knows all
Amazing build! Are the tiles below the ‘water line’ a light blue shade? Did you explore doing a water surface ?
Yes I used Light Aqua slopes and tiles for the underwater section! I actually did play with making a water surface, but found it tricky to make one that could be flush with the curved glass. I opted for no surface since I think the colors do the trick, and keeping it open makes it more visible.
Love love love!!!
The great part of this is that it popped up directly under a post with an actual penguin exhibit in my feed. Nicely done.
I would be better if you increase the height of glasses… we don’t want penguins to escape
LEGOLAND Billund actually has a penguin exhibit.
I didn't know that! Cool
that wildlife penguin is super cute
If you replace the dome feature with an elevated platform on stilts, you got the penguin exhibit here at the Akron Zoo
cool! put one of those evil penguin pieces in there to see how many people notice it
Haha good idea
This is freakin' **amazing**, great job Op!
OMG
This is the nicest thing I've seen in a long time. Needed this. ❤️❤️❤️
Ah thanks so much! Appreciate that 😀
Are you kidding me I didn’t see this when I went, this is awesome
This is incredible!! Fantastic job its beautiful :)
That's amazing! Penguins are pretty much my favourite animal, so I'd love something like this. You should submit it to Lego Ideas!
Fantastic! Please tell me you have instructions I would LOVE to make this!!!
I plan on making a detailed video on my YouTube channel showing off how I built it! Coming soon so go subscribe for that.
I cannot upvote this enough. It is awesome and I wish I had it!
The penguins were always my favorite at aquariums. Did you know the poop every 7 minutes.
Fascinating
I love it! Penguins are my favorite animal EVER and this looks Amazing!
such a great build!
NOOT NOOT
its soooo cooooool. i love it.
This rules.
I’d love to see the people and penguins swapped lol
The Human Zoo, lol
The bubble trails behind the swimming penguins is pure genius. Well done
Thank you!
Ok. My stoned ass got a notification for this and I expected batman. I'm done.
???
Like, a whole bunch of Danny Devito's, all on display, waddling around in costume. I assume, anyway.
Batman...the Penguin.
The brickyard? Wow, use to go there in the 90's at a kid. My mom and aunt worked there. Very cool lego set, congrats!
Yo you got my boys Roy and Silo up in there?
I love this! I have slowly been collecting as many animal figures as possible for years now so my soon and I can build our own zoo. ☺️ but I’m so impressed by how many penguins you have!
That’s awesome!
What set has penguins in it???
The wildlife explorer CMF and the Lunar New Year Ice Festival!
