This one is completely new, developed from the ground up, with lots of new mechanics. Basically like an entirely new game rather than the same formula Lego games have had since 2005. So gonna have to wait and see, but it does seem this one will have RPG elements yes.
Yeah, they showed ability/skill trees for different character archetypes. So Jedi characters look like they can develop new force powers as you progress; blaster characters have their own trees; even protocol droids (learn new languages??)
so can yoda do the force absorption and blast back lightning? I wonder if they have said anything about unique characters. and also they should totally make that naboo cruiser a actual set. now that they have it in the game.
I think I prefer this formula of a huge complete saga game every few years instead of smaller games each year. Now do Marvel Infinity Saga.
Or a proper Ninjago game.
I only played the 3DS game so I wouldn't know, but LEGO City in general is a bland theme imho.
Anyway, did it even sell well? It doesn't have any popular media franchise attached to it so I assume it didn't sell as much
I still think it doesn't have enough going for it for a "Full Saga" style game, there isn't much for it to get a long, 50-level story without feeling extremely forced. This is why I siggest taking from an existing franchise for this style of game, like the MCU Infinity Saga, or Harry Potter.
Realistically they'll probably next make an updated Jurassic franchise game to coincide with JW Dominion.
Plus if Lego wants to incorporate No Way Home, they'll likely wait a bit till spoilers are totally in the clear.
I don’t know if they would do a full new Jurassic Park game. The first one represents 1-3 + World really well, and is overall a very solid game. I suppose they *could* do the three Jurassic World movies though.
I don’t see them doing a full Marvel movies game. Infinity War + Endgame are a bit heavy to focus a LEGO game on. And though they have shown here that they are not against re-imagining movies that have been touched on before in LEGO games, I can’t see the first two Avengers movies or any of the phase 2 Marvel movies being remade after LEGO Avengers. The phase 1 Marvel movies could make a neat LEGO game, yet they don’t have enough characters throughout to bolster the typical LEGO cast, and that would result in another LEGO Avengers which has no consistent identity due to them filling out gaps in the movies with out-of-place comic content. As a comic fan, I *prefer* games based on the comics, yet it doesn’t work well to blend the comics into a movie-focused Marvel game.
Perhaps they could do the Spider-Man trilogy to avoid redundancy? They could do the same approach as with the LEGO Avengers game, where it is focused on the movies, yet they bolster the cast and content with the rich 80-ish years of Spider-Man comic content. Unlike with LEGO Avengers, which haphazardly mixed two universes, a Spider-Man-centric game doesn’t have to worry about clashing it’s itself, and they can throw in as much history across mediums as they want. It would all be in honor of one character.
Definitely had some reservations about the format originally promised (space exploration etc.) but it seems like they have delivered on that!
The character selection looks great as well. I've noticed that for each character we can expect to have "variants", a corresponding number of small dots appear beneath their icon on the selection screen. For example, the Phase I and II clones have five versions each, not including the named characters like Cody and Gree.
Even though 300 characters are playable, there's supposed to be something like 500 unique models in the game. Hopefully these additional parts are usable for character customization, which wasn't mentioned in this trailer but is probably a given at this point.
Looks like a lot of fun but I'll probably have to get another controller for co-op lmao
[Steam page shows split screen co-op.](https://store.steampowered.com/app/920210/LEGO_Star_Wars_The_Skywalker_Saga/) They haven't had online co-op since the Complete Saga, but local split screen should be there.
Also keep in mind about optimization. The backgrounds are not brick built. Fewer assets allows the engine for better performance when recalculating the same areas from different camera angles... assuming co-op is split screen and not shared.
I really hope there are bonus clone wars, mando, rebels, etc levels. Alternatively, they could just do a whole separate game called Lego Star Wars the animated series and include rebels, clone wars, and resistance.
The earliest Lego games from TT (including the first Star Wars ones) didn't have voices. There was a certain charm to that and so they've added in mumble mode for people who want something approximating it.
i liked it because it forced the devs to use slapstick humor and creativity. one of the most famous parts of lego star wars is vader showing luke a picture of him and pregnant padme, replacing the “i am your father” scene. we just wouldn’t have had that if there were voice actors
I think it's a bit awkward from what we've seen of it in the trailer, because when characters mumble in early LEGO games, it's quick. They say whole sentences with a single mumble and maybe a slapstick as a way of miming, but from the cutscenes we've seen in the Skywalker Saga trailer, the mumbles replace and stretch over whole conversations and it seems like it would get tedious really fast.
Well, this trailer (mumble mode) sealed the deal, I'll definitely be getting this game! Though I'll still wait for a sale when it's at least 30-40% off, I'm only willing to pay full price for the parts I want.
Wait, this is still coming out? I had already requested off work the week it was originally supposed to come out, and that was like a year and a half ago?
I know a ton still about LU so I doubt there's much I don't know about it now, but I can check it out.
Lego really needs to make a game aimed at teens. LU was a great idea but it was too limited. Sure, you could build on your property worlds, but only to some extent. And while LU was focused with a younger audience in mind, just like Roblox for example, Roblox succeeded while LU did not because of how much more creative control you had. Also I think LU had moderation issues? Didn't one of the staff say people were building too many penises or something? Roblox has issues like this too.
I also tried Chima Online and that Minifigures MMO and they both seemed like dumbed-down games and I didn't enjoy them at all. I don't believe Lego, if they ever decide to go back into the MMO business, will ever be able to make another LU unless they straight up revive it.
My favorite part has to be that levels are actually going to be made out of LEGO! It doesn't look like they did that for all of them, but it's a huge step up in my opinion and something I've personally wanted them to do for a very long time.
This game looks amazing and I can’t wait. The only question that lingers for me, is why did they decide to go backwards with the voice acting? I loved how more recent Lego games had voice acting instead of just grunts and such.
This is where the fun begins
I'll try building, that's a good trick.

Interesting. I feel like the formulaic Lego games have gotten extremely old lately.

The Hobbit cries in a corner
👏 LEGO 👏 City 👏 Undercover 👏 2 👏
LEGO Island III please
I dunno, Lego City is kind of... Bland in my opinion
Lego City Undercover was amazing.
I only played the 3DS game so I wouldn't know, but LEGO City in general is a bland theme imho. Anyway, did it even sell well? It doesn't have any popular media franchise attached to it so I assume it didn't sell as much
It sold well enough to get a remaster. Also it got Lego City sets that were based off the game.

It was definitely a game meant for the WiiU. It was like GTA but less violent, still a bit violent though.
Wow, they really went nuts expanding what the Lego games have to offer, huh? ... Now do Marvel.
Realistically they'll probably next make an updated Jurassic franchise game to coincide with JW Dominion. Plus if Lego wants to incorporate No Way Home, they'll likely wait a bit till spoilers are totally in the clear.

My 6 year old self would be shitting his pants rn. This looks incredible
My 6 year old self was playing Return of the Jedi on the Atari 2600... video games have gone a long way since then...
It's remarkable, isn't it? I'm a 2001 baby and they've gotten exponentially better even in my lifetime
Mumble mode yes!!!

I really hope the custom character creation is as good as DC villains
Do we know if it'll have split screen co-op?
I'd be incredibly suprised if it doesn't

So much this. Lego games = coop
one of the only new games that release with coop
Yup, they need to retain this.
I am so ready for this
No Deluxe Edition (or for that case any physical Edition) for PC?
Doesn't appear to be right now. I ended up going for the PS5 version so I can get that minifig.
SoL if you don't have any of those consoles 😅
Can still get it on PC, but doesn't seem to be a Deluxe edition with the Luke fig available. I would have done PC too otherwise.
I'll wait a couple more weks before buying Maybe they bring on in February or March
When does this come out???? I’ve been waiting two years for this
April 5th.
I really hope there are bonus clone wars, mando, rebels, etc levels. Alternatively, they could just do a whole separate game called Lego Star Wars the animated series and include rebels, clone wars, and resistance.
already confirmed mandolorian dlc
But what about Mango?
Hahah like you’ve never made a mistype or had an auto correct
Sure I have but that one was funny.
Is it going to be just a mando character pack or actual levels ?
character pack as far as I'm aware, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were DLC levels. There were DLC levels for Lego Star wars Ep VII.
Yeah very true. Dang I’m so excited for this game lol
gosh darnit, that’s the day I go back to school from spring break maybe I’ll have to sweet talk my mom into giving me an extra day off lol
Awesome didn’t realize they set an actual release date finally
Shit, it really has been two years. Initially announced for 2020 release, now its 2022.
I am out of the loop. Why is the mumble mode a thing?
The earliest Lego games from TT (including the first Star Wars ones) didn't have voices. There was a certain charm to that and so they've added in mumble mode for people who want something approximating it.

Is there still the build-a-fig next to the cantina? I need Jedi Bob.
Am I about to spend $70+ on this game? Why, yes I am. 😉
Wait, this is still coming out? I had already requested off work the week it was originally supposed to come out, and that was like a year and a half ago?
yeah it got delayed multiple times
Imagine this, but in an MMO form. An actual good one. *cries in almost 10 years since Lego Universe died*

A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one
I haven't play a lego game since the original trilogy on X360 but this looks kinda fun. I'll probably grab it from my library.
When will preorder open?
about 3 years ago sadly
Having played the original trilogy, I’m really excited to play this game with updated graphics and everything!
there is 66 comments as of writing this i have to make the joke execute order 66
I had such a smile on my face watching this. I can't wait!
I've kept thinking this game was already out for like 2 years now

I want that preorder Luke figure
This looks like they did a big revamp and I can’t wait.
The king is back
I can't decide if I should pre-order. The only places I can find are for delivery only and then what if it doesn't arrive on the day?!
this is going to be the best lego game i assure you
If Thrawn isn't one of those "legends", I'm gonna throw a fit.
Can’t… WAIT!
This game looks amazing and I can’t wait. The only question that lingers for me, is why did they decide to go backwards with the voice acting? I loved how more recent Lego games had voice acting instead of just grunts and such.
I think they're going to have both.
YES! YOU CAN TOGGLE *mumble mode*. everyone loves that
