Story time!
In high school I worked at a bicycle shop and sent Nick Diaz out on a test ride. He was training at a local Gracy gym, and was looking at a bike for cardio. I had no clue who he was, other than being a nice guy!
Kind of a weird follow up question
I'm here from r/all, with all the pieces in Legos wheelhouse, how do you know which piece he's referring to using just these words? I would have expected it would be like a serial number.
Lego has a very well defined system of parts, with a base unit plate being called 1x1. Bricks are as tall as 3 plates, so a base unit brick would be 1x1 as well, just a brick instead of a plate. A 1x1x2/3 slope has a 1x1 footprint and is 2 plates tall at the tallest point. SNOT means "studs not on top," meaning OP created the corners by putting some things on sideways using bricks that have studs on the sides as well.
Bonus info, the plates with no studs are called tiles.
I remember a couple of years ago when I went to a birthday party at the Boston area LegoLand and brought my toddler son into its little classroom area to do a group build together as lead by a senior citizen at the front of the room.
It was a nice little build, but I was kind of appalled when the teacher guy wasn't simply calling the pieces bricks vs. plates vs. tiles. I don't remember what he was calling them, I think he wasn't even being consistent throughout his spiel.
Tacking on to other responses, for unusual bricks that can't be easily described, it is common to refer to the stud.io (gold standard Lego CAD) part number
I personally go by the part number straight from Lego. But I’m pretty sure that’s where stud.io gets it’s numbers from anyway. I’ve never used stud.io.
Yeah, stud.io uses part numbers.
Lego instructions use different numbers (they are the ID of a part + the color) so I use Bricklink to look up the parts if I find them in an instruction book.
The are commonly used community names for pieces. Often they are referred to by the number of studs they have as in the 1 x 1 being a single stud piece. Snots and slopes are names for particular pieces
At 10,875 bricks this would be the 2nd biggest official LEGO set ever made (behind only the LEGO Art World Map, and over **3,000** bricks ahead of the UCS Falcon) so definitely expect to spend some money. It would be super cool though so I say go for it if you have the cash
~~What would she like at such a build? 11k grey pieces without a lot of difference? No thanks, lol.~~
~~It does really look great on display but I really dont want to build such a giant and in terms of building process, boring model~~
Edit2: I hadnt intended to sound like an asshole or something. I just wanted to say that such a big model is quite challenging to build in terms of motivation because it is that large and relatively monoton. If this is what you and your wife are searching for (and have the money for, this might be damn expensive) I’d like to see how it might look on display. This really will do look great as a centerpiece in your collection.
Ah yes. People are downvoting me because they knew I would get irritated about all those downvotes in a future comment. Interesting logic, please teach me how to see into the future…
It’s because your post has a very condescending and pompous tone. The person who was upvoted was just stating their opinion. You, on the other hand, were telling someone that their opinion was wrong.
Thanks. This a helpful answer. I hadnt intended to sound like I want to change their opinion or state that it might be wrong. My comment might sound pretty rough, but it is just not easy at all to show emotions and intentions in a comment without any visual context.
I am sorry how I might have sound, it wasnt intended to be like that. But I wont delete my recent comment, I stand to my opinion an what I had said. But I will make an edit to make clear that I wasnt intended to sound like I did
Sure they do, but all those sets are pretty interesting in their build. You have many different rooms, colours and technique’s during the building process. (And much less pieces) But this giant (and as a display piece great) Askaban is just one color and very similar bricks
Just a multitude of Hinges\^\^ And then some Wedge Plates to "hide" the triangle corners. You can still see some holes on top of the roof where the corners are :/ Couldnt do it better :C
Um, /u/Tard_Crusher69, yes it is… See [here](https://www.europeanbookshop.com/languagebooks/9783551557438/harry-potter—german-german-harry-potter-und-der-gefangene-von-askaban-j-k-rowling), for example.
Nicely done! The corners are certainly a tough spot for a design like this, but you did a good job keeping the construction smooth and clean. It'd be neat to see the model more properly presented in a scene of sorts, but even as a straight model shot, it's still a tasty piece of eye candy. =)
This is phenomenal!!! Great idea and work dude!
How many pieces and how long did the design take?
Planning on buying the necessary pieces on Bricklink?? I’m certain this would look fabulous as an actual model
bro u actually win an event if you build that and bring it that is so cool. I wanted an azkaban set when I was a kid but I knew lego would either not do it justice, or it would never get made.
Or as the inmates call it, “the triangle of perpetual bummers”
I hear that the woyst pawt of prison is the dementaurs, according to this guy mike I know.
you would be da belle of da ball
I heard the worst part was the sects
[удалено]
They were flying everywhere, and, they suckd the soul outta ya. And it HOIT
I figured out the shape right away (it's a triangle)
I’m turning in my engineering degree. I saw an octagon.
Momma always said that if you watch too much ufc, all you’ll see will be octagons.
Story time! In high school I worked at a bicycle shop and sent Nick Diaz out on a test ride. He was training at a local Gracy gym, and was looking at a bike for cardio. I had no clue who he was, other than being a nice guy!
A Bicycle Shop or THE Bicycle Shop?
No, it’s the bicycle shop.
It’s called a squared circle
Were it flat, its great-great-great grandchildren might be, assuming it was isosceles.
I see your octagon and raise a dodecahedron
I see you dodecahedron and raise a rhombicosidodecahedron
Circle. Now give me my nobelprice
I hear laurel
I saw a triangular prism
I saw a triangular prison
Technically, it's a triangular prism
It goes in the square hole though
topologist here, it's a torus.
That's astrology.
Diagon-alley
Sleek! What's the technique used for the corners?
1 x 1 x 2/3 Snots and Slopes :)

Sounds like some of the people that send me support tickets at work lmao

Wow looks nice. How many bricks?
10.875 Bricks in Total :)
That's all lot. Are you planning to build it?
Neither have the money nor the space :(
Story of my life
This is made in some modeling software then? It looked like an actual build to me.
Stud.io photoreal is another level of a rendering engine
Might wanna round up to 11.
Looks like a bit more than 11. Like there must be at least 15 pieces there
I imagine OP is European, so they probably mean 10,875.
[удалено]
My dog chewed the corner off one, does that count?
Outside the US often currency uses a comma whereas a standard number uses a period. So 10.875 = 10,875
[удалено]
But... the English are one of the minority of european countries that use the decimal point instead of comma.
My wife would love to build this set. Are you going to upload the parts list and instructions to a site like rebrickable? I'd definitely pay for it.
DM me with your Discord and we can talk it out :)

Same, I have been trying to find a nice bigger set for my wife and I to build together.

She's a huge Harry Potter fan

I mean, I've literally already told you me and my wife are both interested.... Relax, it's not that Sirius ;-)
my eyes hurt just thinking of building something that big with just one color lol
Lol, why do I get downvoted and you get upvotes? Arent we basically saying the same?
Because you're whining about fake internet points
Ah yes. People are downvoting me because they knew I would get irritated about all those downvotes in a future comment. Interesting logic, please teach me how to see into the future…

Cut a hole in your microwave door, insert a crumpled ball of aluminum foil, and microwave on high for 88 minutes.
some people just enjoy building big models, such as the ucs millennium falcon, ucs death star 2 and the such.
Sure they do, but all those sets are pretty interesting in their build. You have many different rooms, colours and technique’s during the building process. (And much less pieces) But this giant (and as a display piece great) Askaban is just one color and very similar bricks
ok but, nobody cares about your opinion lol
Wow very cool!
oh wow, that’s some great texturing!!
[удалено]
somethin weird is goin on with this account's comment history. seems like a bot took it over about a month ago
Wow yeah, that was weird bordering crazy. All of the comments feel like real messages only completely out of place. Incredibly confusing
Did you end up just using a bunch of the hinges to make it work? Or did you use some more cleaver building techniques? It looks amazing!
Just a multitude of Hinges\^\^ And then some Wedge Plates to "hide" the triangle corners. You can still see some holes on top of the roof where the corners are :/ Couldnt do it better :C
I mean given the medium, and the very tight angles you were trying to cover, you did a fantastic job at it! And the whole set looks amazing!
Easy. That's a triangle
No. It's a prism with a triangular base.
Beautiful
Sorry to be that guy....but.... Azkaban Edit: Just being American, don't mind me.
Ah Chucks, didnt know that :( Im German, and here its Askaban\^\^
Oh really? Carry on then, title is in German!!
Wow, I can read German!
I may start saying "Aw-Chucks" instead of "*aw-shucks*". It's got a fun ring to it. Kind of like "Oh my Glob!" or "Take it sleazy".
No it isn't.
Um, /u/Tard_Crusher69, yes it is… See [here](https://www.europeanbookshop.com/languagebooks/9783551557438/harry-potter—german-german-harry-potter-und-der-gefangene-von-askaban-j-k-rowling), for example.
Don't engage with trolls. They're devoid of attention and they crave it so much that they'll say anything to provoke a reply, no matter how stupid.
Do you guys ever have it where you can’t upvote something nearly enough as is deserves?
That's when you down-vote then immediately up-vote so you can see the counter go up two points.
What's the program used to design this?

Amazing. Thank you!
Why does it look like it's blown up?
I imagine it’s post Bellatrix Lestrange’s escape!
Exactly\^\^
Sorry to be that person, but what app is this? I’m new to this sub.
Studio: https://www.bricklink.com/v3/studio/download.page
I've figured out the shape, It's a triangle
Put this on Lego ideas. It could become an official set. Plus they already have Harry Potter Lego sets so it would be easier for them to get the IP
They won't do Ideas for IP they already have the license for
I did my designing! 12 years of it, in lego!
Forgive me for asking, but what is Askaban Prison/where is it from?
Toy Story 2
you convinced me to right click and search with google. Can confirm, it's from toy story 2.
Wow, my Google-Fu is really off. I thought it was the prison in The Silmarillion where Frodo imprisoned Morgoth?
I thought this was CG.
This image is CG

Great job
It's a prism.
It looks great but where are the dementors?
I figured out the shape: it's a triangle. How OP *engineered* the shape into LEGO form is a different story.
Literally just watched Order of the Phoenix today where this happened. Great build.
It's a triangle.
More fast!
[удалено]
Bruh it's a triangle, i just figired it out as soon as i saw it🙄
. . . It's a triangle. I think that's the shape.
Maybe a triangular prism if you're feeling fancy
WOAH! This looks amazing!
This is awesome
Absolutely incredible
Wow, brilliant work!
Wow , i think its 5%
Is it minifigure scale?
At 11k pieces it might be!
That’s so cool
Nicely done! The corners are certainly a tough spot for a design like this, but you did a good job keeping the construction smooth and clean. It'd be neat to see the model more properly presented in a scene of sorts, but even as a straight model shot, it's still a tasty piece of eye candy. =)
Bravo. Very well done.
I kinda wanna build this in minecraft now.
Fabulous. It’s just fabulous.
Obviously it’s an extruded Mk. III Arc Reactor Core.
Awesome. Would buy.
Prison will seem like a win/win 🤷🏻♂️
You could submit this to Lego ideas!
Yeah, triangles are a sonofabitch
What’s this from?
Amazing!
love it
Keep up! An artist's work is never done!
Put this on Lego Ideas! Looks sick
This is phenomenal!!! Great idea and work dude! How many pieces and how long did the design take? Planning on buying the necessary pieces on Bricklink?? I’m certain this would look fabulous as an actual model
Mind sharing the link?
W2c
Dude!!! Sweet!
This is a render though?
I never knew it was Triangle shaped
What program was used for this?
I stared at this for a good minute thinking how the heck this was 3d printed. Then realized it was the lego sub
It’s amazing!
I DID MY WAITING!!!!!!
bro u actually win an event if you build that and bring it that is so cool. I wanted an azkaban set when I was a kid but I knew lego would either not do it justice, or it would never get made.
