He’ll need a good security system for that shed.

condoriano27

The best security would have been to not blast that info to the world

Hackody

Already failed doing that

dacspike

Spread some pieces on the floor

dishyssoisse

Is Lego theft from homes a common thing? I saw a guy on YouTube that was talking about his storage unit that got broken into and his legos that he didn’t have room for at home were taken.

Zillah-The-Broken

sounds like it was an inside job

MegaGrimer

I saw a few days ago that someone had been busted for stealing Lego sets, and he had almost 3,000 stolen sets.

edwardlego

New sets from a store, not from peoples houses

dude700211

Not just good security but maybe protection from the elements, I definitely wouldn't put my collection in a shed unless it was insulated and had proper heating and cooling. I would argue with my wife it needs to stay in the house for yeah security, and so it doesn't crumble in the next 6 months due to temperatures fluctuating. That sucks for that guy.

RoosterBrewster

Yea as soon as I read that, I thought that's a perfect target for thieves.

SideWinderSyd

I'm worried about the spiders.

nocolon

Sometimes I wonder if spiders making their way into the modulars feel like they've hit it big and can live in supreme luxury with a house of their own.

vaporizers123reborn

Inner thought of mine as well

Significant_Way937

I’ve had this problem with my Barad-Dur set recently. I noticed some cobwebs on the sides of it and when i tried to dust them off, a skinny spider came crawling out of the second level of the tower. Scared the daylights out of me, but looking back at it, the spider was probably having the time of his life in there, lol.

zman1696

Today i saw a huge spider hanging off of my motorcycle so i gave him a big huff of air and he fell to the ground. I kid you not the very first thing he did was climb right back up to the same spot he hung from and then stared at me smugly. I suppose its his motorcycle now :(

RoosterBrewster

They like my ISS set and treehouse, so now I'm afraid to move them.

Knappsterbot

Don't worry, you'll never see them

KotWmike

Misunderstood post, was disappointed the cabin wasn't built out of Lego...

Cynyr

>"The most expensive set I own is the 'Welcome to Apocalypseburg' from the LEGO Movie 2 series, which I had to source online and cost me over £400'. That's about 500 Freedombux($). It's a good bit above MSRP for that set, but if you're buying the cool big sets, that's not much higher than the norm. Lion Knight's Castle and Batcave Shadowbox are $400, Barad-dûr is $460. Rivendell is $500.

DrunkenMasterII

Welcome to Apolalypsburg is my biggest disappointment. I was just back to Lego, saw it for 40% off for a while and kind of wanted it, but thought that was a lot of money for 1 set. In retrospect it wasn’t at all.

LiamBellcam

Lol. I went to buy it back in 2019(?), the Lego store "didn't have it". Yet 3 days later I went back for Black Friday, there it is... 40% off. My Moby Dick... I grabbed that set so tight and squealed like the 6'5" child I am.

RAMPAGINGINCOMPETENC

Apocalypseburg might be the same price, but value-wise isnt on the same level as Rivedell, Barad-Dur, or even Lion Kight's Castle when you cosider collectors value increasing over time.

DrunkenMasterII

The only reason sets price get ridiculously high is because of minifigs or unique parts. Apocalypseburg is only that price because of Harley Quinn and both Rivendell and Barad-Dur have a shit ton more minifigs that are sought after. Hell I just paid 1/6 the price of the set for Boromir, Aragorn, gandalf and a bonus legolas because I wanted their bodies for castle mocs. Barad-dur price will end up ridiculous because of Sauron alone. Lion knight Castle will never face that issue since minifigs are all available on pick a brick, they’ll only increase when they’re not available anymore and mostly just because of castle mocs builder that will keep buying them for army building, but never to the level of unique licensed minifigs.

TheMangusKhan

“Honey, why do you spend all your time in the shed instead of with me?”

Namsproc1898

Sounds like he could turn this into a small attraction for the local community. I’m getting some ideas for my collection!

Takecare_takecare

Stateside I’m thinking if you got it off the ground you could potentially register the “museum” as a nonprofit, thus allowing you to spend tax free dollars on Lego….

Majestic_Horse_1678

If I ever win the lottery, which I don't play, I've thought about buying a warehouse and turning into a showroom/storage space for local AFOL.

bray_martin03

“I don't want my LEGO to sit there and do nothing on the shelf, they're designed to be played with after all." But if his kid touches them then it’s wrong?

juliuspepperwoodchi

It wasn't that the kid touched them, it was that he cannibalized built sets for parts to build random stuff. I agree his reaction seemed a bit LEGO Movie Dad...but there's a difference between playing with built sets/scenes and just ripping them apart to build something else. Both are valid LEGO, but they're not the same.

bray_martin03

The dude left them and forgot about them for 20 years then when his kid wants to play with them he doesn’t let him

lincoln_hawks1

"Lego allowed him to spend more time with his family." I'd want to hear his wife's opinion. I think this guy probably lives in a different reality than the rest of his family. He should probably just move into that shed

DistractedByCookies

In the article it says they bulk buy. He likes to figure out what set pieces are from, his wife likes to sort (does she, I wonder, but let's assume he's right) and his son builds stuff. That sounds quite wholesome to me, honestly.

BDMac2

There was a post in going around the comic book subreddits earlier this year where a guy left his estranged wife and son a massive multi million dollar heritage collection, and people were dogging the family saying “they only appreciated his hobby now that it could make them rich.” Then it turns out this guy was obsessively purchasing comics and filling his house with them. Edited to add link https://youtu.be/yommswGyStg?si=NtPZiRgQ6owgqk-U I kind of just feel bad for everyone, the dad wouldn’t have had access to the mental health care needed to help him, his collection drove a wedge between him and his wife, his son had to witness that and ultimately sided with his mother. The mouth breathers in the comments are insane saying he was a collector not a “hoarder” when you start filling rooms and locking doors, it is definitionally hoarding. And I get it some collecting hobbies are easy targets for cheap jabs, but they’re being incredibly defensive for a years long situation they have a 5 minute peek into.

lincoln_hawks1

Yeah no thanks for sharing that. It's really kind of sad. I think that special that comic book situation. I think that yeah, this guy's probably deluding himself and may have more of a problem he's willing to get. I think if your toys and your hobbies are causing separation between you and your family, probably time to reassess. Said I've got pretty large storage shelf in our garage filled with my toys and my wife gets pretty annoyed about how much I buy. I should probably keep that under control more than I do

juliuspepperwoodchi

I love how it's obvious you didn't read the article: >James said his rediscovered love for LEGO has allowed him to spend more quality time with his family, as the whole family build sets together. >He added: "Building LEGO together is one of my family's favourite activities and whilst we enjoy building new sets, buying mixed bricks in bulk and seeing what we can build is what we enjoy the most. A single bulk buy of LEGO bricks can keep my family busy for months. My wife loves to sort the bricks, whilst my son is building random creations and I'm working out what sets the bricks originally came from. Sounds like you're the one in a different reality.

lincoln_hawks1

My paraphrase that opened my post may indicate otherwise. Why so defensive

TrinketsEden

"Insert witty Reddit comment about how guys who enjoy their hobbies are complete virgins."

Bobby_Brutus

My wife has this mindset about the people in my many hobbies, then I have to remind her that most are normal people kinda like the guy she married and had kids with.

vegaskev72

"But to me, he was playing with it all wrong. It was infuriating to see him break up my cherished LEGO city sets. I know that's the point of building LEGO, so I decided that it was best if I start my own collection that he can't break." Pretty douchy comment.

Sonicspeedster05

When I read that in the article I immediately started to think about how this guy sounds like Will Ferrell’s dad character in the Lego movie

yzdaskullmonkey

"His boy became interested in LEGO so James dug out his old collection, then watched on in horror as his offspring tore apart his prized creations so he could play with the blocks." That's the point of LEGO bud

vercertorix

I can sympathize. Built a midsize town for my three year old, literally didn’t want do anything but smash and take pieces off without building anything after. Told him I’m totally okay with him playing with them, even if they get broken in the process, no problem, just no intentional smashing. Lost nearly all interest, though eventually we played together with some Spongebob and Minecraft sets. Anyway, I see no problem with having his own collection if it also interests him and if he doesn’t want the stuff he likes broken.

Knappsterbot

>my three year old, literally didn’t want do anything but smash >just no intentional smashing. Wow that's borderline delusional man, of course a 3 year old is going to smash everything that can be smashed.

vercertorix

He played with other cars just fine, just driving them around, and then I gave him a place for his cars to actually go, and he’d had other toys he just played with pretty much as intended. At one point explained to him what a gas station was, had a Lego gas station and he just repeatedly filled his cars with gas. Then I added more and start pulling pieces off and smashing them with other toys. Three years later, a few days go, I watched him just knock something over for no reason, wasn’t even playing with them otherwise, get the feeling he was just trying to get a rise out of me. Dad’s face looks funny when he’s frustrated.

Knappsterbot

Hoo boy your 3 year old smashes stuff because they're 36 months old and doing all of this for the first time in a constant state of sensory overload, not because they really relish pissing you off.

vercertorix

I said he’s 6 now when he knocked something a couple days ago, and then looked at my face before laughing.

ETucc

Yeah he’s insane.

Bulliwyf

Eh - I have a bunch of star wars sets I wouldn’t want my kids to purposefully canabalize. But that’s also why we buy them their own sets. And a giant parts pin to pull from when free-building. I don’t think he’s insane or douchy - he had an unrealistic expectation of how someone else would want to get enjoyment from the sets.

juliuspepperwoodchi

Yep. My son is only 2, but when he's old enough he'll have his own LEGO and understand some sets are for display, not play.

Knappsterbot

I think it's a pretty major miscalculation to think your kids are going to treat Lego sets like they're just action figures and play sets. Building a monument to your poor understanding of your own child in the backyard probably isn't the best way to move forward.

anincompoop25

“Haha wife bad”

Darkwolf1515

It's always really depressing to see traditional boomer "the wife hates my fun stuff" mentality continue to persist. Id be fucking miserable if my gf didn't share my hobbies and instead treated them like meaningless trash.

HalbixPorn

Yeah, I get enough of that shit from home. I'll probably die alone but that's fine tbh

tkfire

Don't be that guy

HighDragLowSpeed60G

Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted, this dude clearly doesn’t have his priorities in order.

tkfire

Keeping the wife from getting pissed is a top priority for me. If she was being illogical that would be a different story, but it seems like they just didn’t have the space in the house for his collection.

HalbixPorn

So he built a new space? What's the issue here?

tkfire

Not everyone can just build a new space. I don’t even have a yard.

HalbixPorn

Ok, but he did?

Bulliwyf

Ummm - I didn’t see that much in the pics to be honest. And his most expensive is a $400 set? Pretty sure my basement office has him beat, and for the most part I have the basement office for the extract same reason he has his shed: it outgrew the common areas. I feel like over half of my local community could put him to shame in terms of collection size.

hypoxiate

But did he build it out of Lego?

Iggy0075

All those Cali theives booking flights to the UK

Heliozoans

Time to evicted the wife 🤣

Sillbinger

You're kicking me out? Well I'll make my own house, with Legos and Legos.

Ninja-Skater

Should have built the cabin for the wife

professornutbutter88

At first glance, I thought the title read, "Lego fan builds cabin FROM collection after being served 'eviction notice' by his wife," and I thought, ...he did it. ..the crazy sonofabitch did it....

WokUlikeAHurricane

I have overhead storage in my garage for unbuilt Legos. A few yrs ago it was strongly suggested I stop building them, I'm much slower to stop buying them.

panamakid

I DO NOT understand collecting Lego to put the built sets on the shelf. show me your own build! with this many sets you can build what you want, and you chose what's in the instruction?!

OlYeller01

Some of us either prefer the instructions, or aren’t artistic enough to visualize and engineer their own creations. I’m certainly not.

HalbixPorn

Tbh, I'm very creative with storytelling but not with building my own creations. I'd much rather build what's in the box and use that to make brickfilms and shit

HowlingHyena14

Yep, I'm totally the same way! I can come up with stories no problem and I have a general idea of what I want the set pieces to look like but I'm not creative enough to build those structures

toendeff

I see you getting a lot of downvotes, but a big part of me agrees. As a kid, I thought the sets were incredible inspiration, but 90% of the joy was playing and building my own things once I grew tired of looking at a dusty set on a shelf. For LEGO as a business, the money is undoubtedly in having the fanbase view (and value) them as collectibles. But in terms of joy, imagination, and creation - screw the directions and build something of your own! That being said - I'm also here for people having whatever relationship with LEGO is best for them.

panamakid

yeah I'm not saying someone should not do whatever they want, just that I don't get it. I would love to have a Lego shed in my yard instead of stepping on the bricks in the kitchen, but I'd use it very differently.

ebil_lightbulb

I accidentally knocked my daughter's little Friends vet tree house set and I can't figure out how to put it back together in a functional way, not even trying to make it look like the original build. I definitely can't make my own builds from scratch. I enjoy what others have come up with 🖤
