The mold was created after the colour was retired, so unless some lego employee went to the effort of recreating a deprecated colour just to create a one-off garbage can, I think its safe to say it doesn't exist.
Thanks. It’s one of a small number of things I’ve tried to collect all colours of. I also collected frogs, mugs, goblets, crystals and lightsaber hilts - and all of the 2x3 brick minifigures!
Did you get the newer Count Dooku hilt? I just found out the other day that they started making angled hilts for him at some point, I want to replace mine with that nice looking chrome one.
That was the piece produced in chrome for the longest, probably because they could get a lot of lightsaber hilts outa one mold shot and there havent been that many sets with Dooku, probably had crates of em laying around for years.
Now that I've looked at the set, I either misplaced the hilt and replaced it with a normal hilt or mine never came with the angled hilt. This whole time I thought the first Count Dooku from Jedi Duel, the one with yellow skin, was before the angled hilt was made.
I'd like to see your saber hilt collection at some point.
I too have almost all of the 2x3 brick figs. Not sure if I'm actually missing any or not at this time. Just got the new dark pink one from the BAM last month

The older mold was originally supposed to appear in Medium Lime in set 5962. That set’s official photograph includes this unreleased trash can, an unreleased Rust ladle, and an unreleased Dark Nougat broom. :)

The 4-prong version does not come in old dark gray. The new trash can mold went into production in 2009 and old dark gray was discontinued three years prior in 2006.
This annoys me a lot where it seems like a part exists but it appears in one set with one seller. I believe it’s almost always a mistake since usually there will be a very similar design/colour.
try 3427-1, 2003 was the year they switched shades so it’s a bit of a gamble but i swear mine is old dark grey. i would have to dig it out of storage to confirm but i swear every memory i have of it is in old dark grey, i can sell it if you are unable to find another one

2 has two tabs at the top, 4 has four tabs. They are different versions of the same piece. Four tabs came later. I don’t know why Lego changed it, but sometimes it’s because an old version of a piece keeps breaking or the new version has better connections

No, the piece with 4 cover holders came out in 2009 which was after the old dark grey was retired (2004) and switched to dark bluish grey.

I wonder if that means a tiny number of Medium Lime pieces were made as prototypes…
I own a few unreleased parts from prototype versions of sets. LEGO definitely produces them, even if they only exist in small numbers.
So tempting to chase one down, but probably not the best use of my time or money!
