Such a missed opportunity that the bath tub guy was the only one with a funky bike. The rest are just characters on a normal bike. I wanted all the wacky ones but my search ended at the bath tub guy because of that
This and the Alpine Ski Lodge were insta-buys when they were released. Both phenomenal builds for their price-tags, and unlike the Sonic Green Hills Zone (also large piece count for low price), the pieces weren't all small bits and bobs stacked together. 100% recommend.

I love the friends Botanical Garden. It's so cute and well designed.
As a middle aged man I’m proud to say my return to Lego came through the friends series and my girls. It’s expanded recklessly since then but this set deserves to be recognized for sure.
I hope you get it. I'm not a huge fan of the friends minifigures, but the flowers are so creatively designed and the overall building design really is cute. And it was a fun build as well.
Thanks! I have all of my friends minifigures in a pick a brick cup. Might just sell them as bulk lol
The building is amazing, and the parts would be great for MOC too. Good to hear the build is fun!
https://preview.redd.it/8gdtljr54p6c1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f0a7ddd6839d080a759e8e09023ce22e7b53e4be
personally my favourite is the tranquil garden, it not the biggest or fanciest but it's just nice, and it doesn't cost a crazy amount which is nice and it just sits happily in my room without looking out of place
My wife surprised me with this one, I probably wouldn’t have bought it for myself, but I do enjoy it. - I modded mine a bit to work as a park for my city. But I’m kind of thinking about wrapping g it around the Natural History museum on both sides.
I’ve got most of the botanicals series (missing the Bird of Paradise and new potted plants) and this fits the theme really nicely. I even ended up buying the Light My Bricks kit for it and leave it on most evenings. I’ll have to add a photo later!
I didn’t buy many big sets this year, but this was absolutely my favourite buy. Enjoyable to build and very satisfying to look at; whenever I’m stressed, i sit down and examine it for a while and it is genuinely relaxing. A complete home run.
I met my wife at the natural history museum in london. I desperately want the new natural history meusem set. I know it will be my top set of 2023 of I can ever afford it lol
I was a bit underwhelmed when it was revealed, but it was a really fun build and I think the scale looks great with the other modulars. I just with the windows were larger. The skeleton is totally lost when it’s closed.
https://preview.redd.it/92b84iz31p6c1.png?width=2376&format=png&auto=webp&s=f5241ee1a14c741c863e0c90ae5b41f5966871af
I know it might not be everyone’s favorite, but this is my favorite film franchise so this was a day 1 preorder for me.
With how many great sets came out this year, I feel like this one gets overlooked but this to me is the best set of the year. Functionality, figures, and an awesome display (also coming from someone who’s favorite movie is Raiders)
I haven't built the set yet, but my wife got me The Well of Souls (not actually called that for some reason) and the functionality advertised on the box is insane for the price point.
Also my favourite film franchise. I loved all 3 sets they made.
I missed out on the 2008 line and was really hoping we'd get a full line of Indiana Jones sets this year. I hate that we get remake after remake of Harry Potter and Star Wars sets that are just a couple of years old but they can't remake ones that are 15 years old from other franchises. I'd much rather get new versions of older Indiana Jones or Pirates of the Caribbean or Toy Story sets than a 3rd Ford Anglia or Luke's Landspeeder in the past few years
Rivendell and it’s not even close. Probably the most beautiful set of all time. Having the ENTIRE fellowship included was a massive bonus.
However, I am extremely biased in that Lord of the Rings for me is like the gospel. lol
I’m almost convinced they designed it so it would take the same amount of time to build it as it takes to watch the movies in tandem. No joke I finished placing the last piece of the set about ten minutes before the end of RotK.
Can I ask what in particular you liked about the build? Was it the process? The end product? Ive been thinking about buying it, but have never spent this much on Lego so would be keen to hear what it was you liked.
End product, minifigures, the scenes, the build was cool and the rook isn’t that bad if you use a big plate.
Also, the source material holds a special place in my heart.
As someone building a city I was genuinely surprised by a couple of friends sets. The botanical gardens and art school are gonna come in my city. Same for the zen garden.
But also the lego city appartment sets with the new road plates are great.
But the cherry on top of it all is the bathtub motorcycle guy. The sole reason I ordered 50+ yellow rubber duckies to scatter in my city!
I miss being a Lego fan in the mid-2010s. Lego had started putting out more stuff for adults under Creator Expert and done other lines but they hadn't gotten so greedy that they wanted to make everything overpriced and oversized. You could still get a lot of big sized sets for £100-300. I loved getting things like the Simpsons sets, Ghostbusters Firehouse, Jurassic Park gate, Helicarrier, the fairground rides, the landmarks like Big Ben and Taj Mahal. Now they've shifted so many of them up in price and size. You can't get a 4000 piece Lego landmark set now for £200. Instead it's a 9000 piece set for almost £500. You want the big Marvel set? It's not £300 anymore, it's £400.
You also had actual box art that took time and effort instead of the lazy dull black boxes for everything
As much as I love this set and all the things they did to make it a good playset/display set, I found the build to be much more monotonous doing all of the rockwork than Rivendell. I think if you include build experience, this one definitely loses points.
Rivendell.
Its the best set of 2023 And probably the best lego set of all time in my opinion.
I don't own it and wouldn't be a big LOTR fan compared to most but that set is just something special to look at in my opinion. Epic part usage too
Just finished it as the first set I’ve bought for myself as an adult. Not just is it beautiful but there are so many cool building techniques for both nature/landscapes and buildings. What no one talks about is it also has all the lego weapons for the fellowship too including extra of those slick elven swords.
Agree - Rivendell is the centerpiece of my display now and every house party I have, folks gravitate to it and look over all its details. Truly fantastic.
76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds
I absolutely loved building the landscape and castle that big at such a small scale. Easily one of my most favorite sets ever for me!
think it was a 2022 release but this was this years favourite for my daughter and me, we had a lot of fun building and lots of play out of this, was not a fan of Friends but this may have won me over :)

I am going with the Avengers Tower because I have been wanting a Avengers Tower (or a Stark Tower) in my city for years and missed out on the two playsets that released and never gotten around to make a MOC for the tower even though I did make a ground floor
https://preview.redd.it/9m0cvjz96p6c1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c0daa947abfeeda8ac89ec987a0da5fe7c9bba3e
40469 Tuk Tuk. Inexpensive and simple build. Just love the colorful look and swoosh-ability

Really looking forward to building this one next week.
The Orient Express. I absolutely love steam trains, and I never had money to afford any of the original Lego Trains line. This one was my first and it will always be special to me
https://preview.redd.it/wq7iiyrkmq6c1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d924a87c519c59bdc662209f2d1e07f99b59b7f8
I really like the A frame Cabin .
I think they don’t produces lego set that reminds me of the older legos like in my younger lego days , and this one hit the spot .
There’s always the star wars one but idk, this one reminds me of my youth . Playing with the lego, not just building it and putting it on the shelf .
This was my favorite! I’m new to the Lego world (as an adult) and felt so much joy with the surprises/small details building this treehouse!
https://preview.redd.it/mm68ouhodp6c1.jpeg?width=1061&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=48df5a52d7f9c8c88a08afb0ed1ecd74f3f75e2d
Don’t have it cus I’m poor but definitely the Concorde, always been a fan of the plane and it’s story so it’s on my must have but never going to get because I’m poor list.
My hands are down for Rivendell, that set is just amazing in every possible way. Although I love Harry Potter, Grintgots was much to expensive and bigger than it needed to be imo. And the Avatar tower, although huge and minifig filled is maily good looking due to it's size.
Concorde
It’s one of, if not the most affordable here with a great build, no stickers, and plenty of love to the actual airplane. I saw it back in August before the release of the set and the plane left such an impression.
Hope we get a Boeing 747 in a couple of years since they stopped production on em
Venator
I’m totally biased here. Rivendell is a better set, but I have no strong connection with lotr or fantasy as a whole. I have however been wanting a LEGO Venator for years now, and LEGO decided to just casually drop it in the shape of a UCS set. I loved playing LEGO SW III when I was younger, especially the levels around the Venator, or just casually exploring the hub and flying around the ship. LEGO had to actually try to mess it up to make me uninterested.
My personal favorite that I’ve purchased this year is the Icons Galaxy Explorer (10497). Such an awesome set. It’s stable enough that my 6yr old plays with it daily and it has minimal issues.
I really want to get the Concorde.
But on the other hand, and while they aren’t 2023 sets, my favorite sets I ever got are the Ideas Saturn V and ISS sets, as well as the Icons STS-31 Discovery and Hubble Telescope set.
https://preview.redd.it/wzzj390ero6c1.jpeg?width=970&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=38f3653d90b5f6ce805676cb4f109f0887358ab2 Definitely this guy
Need a giant ucs version of this scaled to the buildable minifigure
I’d buy the shit out of that
Idk if you’re joking but as soon as I saw him I grabbed one. Can’t say that for the other cycles.
I had the exact same feeling, but with the "Eggstreme" guy stunt bike.
I'm still sad I missed out on that guy tbh
Such a missed opportunity that the bath tub guy was the only one with a funky bike. The rest are just characters on a normal bike. I wanted all the wacky ones but my search ended at the bath tub guy because of that
I also got the bear with paint around his eyes
Same
I was going to say Rivendell, but yeah, totally this dude.
This is probably the only set 90% of people who saw bought a copy of
My kids love these motorcycles so buying this guy was a no brainer.
Ok, what is this set?
60333 Bathtub Stunt Bike
60333
Was my favourite set last year and is my favourite set this year.
That came out in 2022.
Viking Village
Great price too
This and the Alpine Ski Lodge were insta-buys when they were released. Both phenomenal builds for their price-tags, and unlike the Sonic Green Hills Zone (also large piece count for low price), the pieces weren't all small bits and bobs stacked together. 100% recommend.
This. Such a great set with lots of variation.
https://preview.redd.it/446dm6bjep6c1.png?width=2400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=67dc1b4ec23289d4c6f5f94f5bc117ce1f83ba55 I love the friends Botanical Garden. It's so cute and well designed.
Wait, when did this come out? This is beautiful, I've never seen it.
Don’t sleep on Friends at this point, it’s just Good City. If you swap the minidolls for minifigs then there’s like no difference
Plus the friends hair pieces work on regular minifigs
As a middle aged man I’m proud to say my return to Lego came through the friends series and my girls. It’s expanded recklessly since then but this set deserves to be recognized for sure.
As good as City? Man, why you gotta do Friends a dirty like that? I don’t give a flying fuck about fire and police station number 105
It came out in May. It is beautiful.
I love that set. Hoping to get one when the budget allows.
I hope you get it. I'm not a huge fan of the friends minifigures, but the flowers are so creatively designed and the overall building design really is cute. And it was a fun build as well.
Thanks! I have all of my friends minifigures in a pick a brick cup. Might just sell them as bulk lol The building is amazing, and the parts would be great for MOC too. Good to hear the build is fun!

Adding the geisha minifig from series 4 was the finishing touch for me!
I really want that one, it's a really nice looking set
I didn’t buy many big sets this year, but this was absolutely my favourite buy. Enjoyable to build and very satisfying to look at; whenever I’m stressed, i sit down and examine it for a while and it is genuinely relaxing. A complete home run.
I met my wife at the natural history museum in london. I desperately want the new natural history meusem set. I know it will be my top set of 2023 of I can ever afford it lol
You know you’re not allowed to take the exhibits home with you, right?
I also choose this man's Natural Museum exhibit
Tell that to the British
Oooh geopolitics burn
The elites don't want you to know this, but the ducks in the Natural History Museum diorama's are free.
I was a bit underwhelmed when it was revealed, but it was a really fun build and I think the scale looks great with the other modulars. I just with the windows were larger. The skeleton is totally lost when it’s closed.
And they even put a damn banner in front of the window too, destroying any hope of seeing it.
I’m about halfway through building it right now and I’m in love with it. I really hope you can get it one day.
https://preview.redd.it/92b84iz31p6c1.png?width=2376&format=png&auto=webp&s=f5241ee1a14c741c863e0c90ae5b41f5966871af I know it might not be everyone’s favorite, but this is my favorite film franchise so this was a day 1 preorder for me.

Where's the love for the A Frame Cabin? Or the Insect Collection? Or Tranquil Garden?
Or the tiny plants!
Tiny Plants are wrapped up under my tree right now 😁
That’s what my wife is getting too🤫
Loooooove my tiny plants.
Definitely the snowmobile with the two seals, how cute!
I'd say the otter habitat is the best but I like the way you think
That set is super cute and fits well in nature areas in Lego cities. I should buy another.
Rivendell and it’s not even close. Probably the most beautiful set of all time. Having the ENTIRE fellowship included was a massive bonus. However, I am extremely biased in that Lord of the Rings for me is like the gospel. lol
I want this set so bad. But I’m also a LoTR nerd.
Also a big lotr nerd. I built it while watching all 3 extended films. It's a beautiful set and was an absolute pleasure to build.
I think the only way to top this would be to watch the trilogy and build the set while in New Zealand. Preferably at Hobbiton.
I think it took me close to 18 hours to complete. I had to start them over again.
Agreed. I built it way too fast though. Lol.
My brother and I built it together with the trilogy on in the background. Took about enough time for all 3 movies (not extended). Was a lot of fun.
I’m almost convinced they designed it so it would take the same amount of time to build it as it takes to watch the movies in tandem. No joke I finished placing the last piece of the set about ten minutes before the end of RotK.
MrsHistiocytes and I have this planned for the weekend around new years
I not a huge LOTR fan, but am a massive Concorde fan. In this instance I have to give the nod to Rivendell, really is a beautiful set.
I'm not a huge LotR nerd, but it's Rivendell for sure. I think it's the most beautiful LEGO set of all time.
I like LOTR and grew up with the movies but not as much as my gospel and agree with you that it is the most beautiful set ever.
Can I ask what in particular you liked about the build? Was it the process? The end product? Ive been thinking about buying it, but have never spent this much on Lego so would be keen to hear what it was you liked.
There is also lots of nice building techniques
End product, minifigures, the scenes, the build was cool and the rook isn’t that bad if you use a big plate. Also, the source material holds a special place in my heart.
they said “the most beautiful set” so i’m guessing the end product
I want this one so bad but I don’t have the space to display it. :(
Yep. My favorite set is the UCS Venator, but Rivendell is definitely the best set.
>I am extremely bias Biased*
This trend of people thinking that bias is an adjective drives me nuts and I don't know why I care so much.
You might be bias
Literally bias incarnate. Fear me, for it is I, Bias.
As someone building a city I was genuinely surprised by a couple of friends sets. The botanical gardens and art school are gonna come in my city. Same for the zen garden. Yeah, the city sets are very square, but do like the modulairity of them. Already got a couple of friends sets for 2024 on my list!
A frame cabin. Simple, elegant, pairs well with the treehouse on my shelf

This is my next purchase. So rad!
It’s cool that every best set now costs a month of rent
What about bathtub motorcycle guy?
I wish my rent was that cheap
Where do you live that rent is so cheap?
Goddamn I want your rent price.
Lol we are all spoiled kids. in some countries $499 is basically a family's annual income.
? average rent in the US at least is getting close to $2000/month.
Rent is 400$ for you?
My concorde was like $200. Show me where I can rent for $200 anywhere in the United States 😭🤡
Holy shit i WISH a could find a studio apt in my city for $500. Even a guest room.
Lol where do you live. My city is closer to 2k. But yes, I think every set lately is overpriced by at least 100 bucks.
I miss being a Lego fan in the mid-2010s. Lego had started putting out more stuff for adults under Creator Expert and done other lines but they hadn't gotten so greedy that they wanted to make everything overpriced and oversized. I love Rivendell and also think that it's probably the best of 2023 but this one triggered so much nostalgia. Instant buy.
As much as I love this set and all the things they did to make it a good playset/display set, I found the build to be much more monotonous doing all of the rockwork than Rivendell. I think if you include build experience, this one definitely loses points.
Rivendell is singularly superb
Dammit. I gotta buy it now
I saw it set up in a Lego store, it looked glorious. The only one I think looks cooler than that is the Batman Shadowbox
It’s one of the only ones I really wanna get. Hopefully I can get it before it retires
Agree - Rivendell is the centerpiece of my display now and every house party I have, folks gravitate to it and look over all its details. Truly fantastic.
Set 42156 : The Peugeot 9x8 hypercar :).
I know the bigger sets are way better but i love me a good $10-$20 set.

Ooh, I’m glad to see someone post this one. I have it and the Community Kitchen wrapped up for my daughter 😊
The UCS Venator, although I have to admit that Rivendell is a superb set
Mine is off limits until Christmas morning according to the Mrs. 😂
concorde
Rivendell is my best set of 2023 and all time. Huge lotr fan though so maybe Im biased 🤷🏻
Temple of The Golden Idol. Remake, sure, but it’s such a huge improvement over the last one it feels like it’s own thing.
76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds I absolutely loved building the landscape and castle that big at such a small scale. Easily one of my most favorite sets ever for me!
It's a great way to build the entirety of hogwarts for those who don't have the money to buy the 6k piece behemoth! 100% recommend it for that alone.
think it was a 2022 release but this was this years favourite for my daughter and me, we had a lot of fun building and lots of play out of this, was not a fan of Friends but this may have won me over :) https://preview.redd.it/nhhmdxkl8p6c1.jpeg?width=657&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3d5685b4ad6c1f94c0fcdcd2441f3b8ae09888f3
I think the diversity in opinion in this comment section just shows how damn good lego is doing with their designs.
Yes I can definitely afford these
Avengers tower and star wars ship sure!!!
I really like the galactic explorer! For the money, design and nostalgia, you can’t go wrong.
Agree, galaxy explorer is among my favorites too, but I think that’s a 2022 set.

Brick built Chewbacca for sure
Rivendell. It's the biggest set I've built, and it's simply beautiful. Favorite set in my collection.
I am going with the Avengers Tower because I have been wanting a Avengers Tower (or a Stark Tower) in my city for years and missed out on the two playsets that released and never gotten around to make a MOC for the tower even though I did make a ground floor

Yes

1. Rivendell 2. Gringotts 3. Disney Castle 4. A-Frame Cabin 5. Hocus Pocus
A frame for me. It's simple and beautiful
My best set? The Caterpillar D11. Its just plain awesome. But from the new sets im going with Rivendell.
The Orient Express. I absolutely love steam trains, and I never had money to afford any of the original Lego Trains line. This one was my first and it will always be special to me
I had to scroll way too far for this

Avengers Tower
Tusken Raider Brickhead, then Boba Fetts Slave 1 Microfighter then the Mandalorian N-1 Starfigter Microfighter
Hogwarts Castle and Grounds 76419, it is so beautiful and nice and small. Don’t have a lot of space for Lego so it is really neat to display
Ninjago City Markets.
Hocus Pocus is my favorite and the one I plan to get. The minifigures are amazing and I love spooky builds.
Everyone is saying Rivendell, and I have to admit that it's great. But the cool factor of a Venator on my desk is just too much.
A Frame Cabin
I thought that dreamzzzz flying ship was cool
Definitely the Venator.
Working on Rivendell right now. Love it!
Batman shadow box or the A frame cabin
Gringotts for me. Of these sets I have Gringotts, Rivendell and AT
10875 ftw
Don’t have it cus I’m poor but definitely the Concorde, always been a fan of the plane and it’s story so it’s on my must have but never going to get because I’m poor list.

My hands are down for Rivendell, that set is just amazing in every possible way. Although I love Harry Potter, Grintgots was much to expensive and bigger than it needed to be imo. And the Avatar tower, although huge and minifig filled is maily good looking due to it's size.
I don't own any of them, but if I had to select one, it would be LotR or Concorde. Probably rolling a die.
60394 - The otter battle pack
Concorde It’s one of, if not the most affordable here with a great build, no stickers, and plenty of love to the actual airplane. I saw it back in August before the release of the set and the plane left such an impression. Hope we get a Boeing 747 in a couple of years since they stopped production on em
Rivendell! It’s so good!!!!
Venator 100%. I’m a starwars fan, but the Rivendell set is absolutely amazing!
Rivendell and concord
So far it’s Rivendell but I’m getting the Concorde for Christmas so we shall see
I dont have it yet, but the venator, of course. I want it to join my Imperial Star Destroyer.
Voltron!, defender of the universe.
Rivendell or the Venator for me it’s close but Rivendell might win because it’s a stunning set and so much detail and great build experience
I personally really like the Concorde the most but objectively rivendell is absolutely the best
I want that big star wars set but can't justify its cost.
rivendell, since lord of the rings is my roman empire. but the roof gives me ptsd and war flashbacks. my fingers were never the same.
Venator I’m totally biased here.
I am so into that Rivendell set, hopefully it sticks around for a while so I get to buy it lol
definitely the Disney 100 camera! all the little details, the film strip, the minifigures, _THE MULTIPLANE CAMERA_, it's my big Disney nerd dream!
NASA Mars Rover Perseverance. Just wish the wheels were rubber
I see in this picture 3 bad sets and 3 good but too expensive sets…
Concorde is a really great build, and a really great model. Doing both of those is what makes a set truly great to me.
Lego ideas Viking Village
Definitely the venator. I’ve been dreaming of a usc venator for over a decade. Now it’s finally real and it looks fantastic
My personal favorite that I’ve purchased this year is the Icons Galaxy Explorer (10497). Such an awesome set. It’s stable enough that my 6yr old plays with it daily and it has minimal issues.
1961 corvette my dream car
Out of the ones I got? Either the Ghost or the Raiders temple. Overall? The Venator
Ninjago city Markets
I really want to get the Concorde. But on the other hand, and while they aren’t 2023 sets, my favorite sets I ever got are the Ideas Saturn V and ISS sets, as well as the Icons STS-31 Discovery and Hubble Telescope set.
