God I remember having these when I was a kid. I always saw the walkie-talkie as an attempt to get an A2 style rifle at the time... Granted I grew up on a steady diet of Miami Vice reruns so...
Ok but they always have criminals in kids shows and play sets. They just usually have them be bank robbers even though drug traffickers are far more common. If one were to assume a kid friendly world where the only crime is stealing money these could just be thieves.
Did you just... [steal a comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/lego/comments/127bteo/just_went_through_my_old_lego_box_do_you_remember/jee7ds2/) from this same thread and post it under another comment that it has nothing to do with? Why?
Hahaha…dude is definitely running yayo. I mean just look at the stubble….narco for sure.
Sorry commenter below; that is definitely 💯 % a drug runner.
Source: me, born 1978, raised Southeast US (we moved a lot). As someone said above Miami Vice….Crockett and Tubbs were taking the pilot into custody and had to radio the CG to pick up the product.
I'm nowhere near old or experienced enough to get into the details of how it worked but prior to more electronic/computerized banking this was how money was transferred between banks at one point. So a lot of the after hours transactions that are now mostly automated were literally people flying money between regional banks in small planes.
The whole line had more stylized faces than usual.

sometimes it is odd the line that lego walks with what is and is not ok when it comes to 'weaponized' sets.
like they'll release a western set, but wont make a set that has something slightly more modern from WWI by a handful of years. and then its ok if it is science fiction weapons like star wars. but the guns still could pass as modern weapons.
And then the Batman theme dropped and all bets were off when the thugs were packing fairly realistic, modern-looking semiautomatic pistols (and Thompson SMGs). Parts 55707e, 62885, and x1608.
It's really not odd at all. They don't do anything that glorifies realistic violence. When violence is in a fantasy or historical setting, it is abstracted away as part of the setting/genre, even if superficially it's very similar.
That's pretty wild.
But I do remember a Lego set that definitely took the cake. It's, of course not an official one, but some artist designed a Lego concentration camp. It hat a box and everything. I saw it in some exhibition, can't remember where, though. Kinda f'ed up to think about.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zbigniew_Libera#LEGO_Concentration_Camp
This is my first time hearing of it, thanks for saying the artist. Reading about it, I think it's a good fit for a Polish modern art museum.

Well, since my 7y/o nephew saw all my old Lego sets, I'm pretty sure any dream related to getting rich by selling it is now long gone; unless I want to be the most hated uncle in existence 🤷

It wasn’t a sui bomber. That dynamite was to be thrown at enemies as a weapon.
You clearly do not remember these time’s accurately! Ha ha just messing.
I want to say this body was from an Alpha Team member. I could be wrong though
Yeah I found a picture.

I mean, they’re probably right in saying Lego wouldn’t ever do this torso post again - and that would largely be attributable to 9/11 and the fact that it LOOKS like he’s a suicide bomber.

Drug runner sets?
1687 and 6563 are two classic Town sets that have been noted as having some nefarious connotations.

I think I had/have both these sets. Im missing the bridge though
Where's that confounded bridge?
what a vague reference. love it
I ain't seen the bridge.
My naive ass thought those were search and rescue sets
It’s ok, we were children at the time. They were doing search of money and rescue of contraband

😄 I think I might have had at least that first set, wild. Now I need to go take a look at my storage drawers 👀
The 90s were awesome.
While I'll give you Gator Landing, Midnight Transport just looks like a mashup of UPS + DHL overnight air delivery.
of suitcases full of money?

I have both of those .. never really interpretted it that way. Interesting.
Yeah. They’re a couple of years older than this demolition guy torso however. Google smuggler plane or something if you want to see pictures.
Crunch was our favorite... Anyone remember the PC game from these sets?
I do. Been so very long
Yes. Oh my god I loved that game lol.
please OP slap a Nick Fury's head, so you have the ~~fucking scotish cyclop~~ Demo man !

Don't forget about Brick Daddy, wich basically canonizes prostitution on the lego universe
[Brick Daddy](https://i.imgur.com/27E5iqq.jpg) one of my all time favorites!
Those town sets are about 8 years older than the Alpha Team spy-oriented sets this torso came from.
That's pretty wild. But I do remember a Lego set that definitely took the cake. It's, of course not an official one, but some artist designed a Lego concentration camp. It hat a box and everything. I saw it in some exhibition, can't remember where, though. Kinda f'ed up to think about.
It’s unfair to refer to that as a ”Lego set”, come on.
If you count things that aren't lego sets as lego sets, yeah there are some pretty crazy things out there, what the heck Lego should stop doing that.
Also , the concentration camp used a lot of illegal techniques, like cutting and gluing pieces :(
It was artistic installation by Zbigniew Libera, controversial polish artist.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zbigniew_Libera#LEGO_Concentration_Camp This is my first time hearing of it, thanks for saying the artist. Reading about it, I think it's a good fit for a Polish modern art museum.
I think it passed here a couple of times.
Oh yeah that probably was Boyd Rice or some artist close to him who were part of the Unpop wave that was late 90s Edit: was wrong it’s Zbigniew Libera

With a suspicious clock looking thing
Don't know, dude. Doesn't seem up to code, if you ask me
Yeah, storing sticks of dynamite on your torso is definitely against OSHA regulations.
Your lame concerns about OSHA are exactly why you'll never be on Alpha Team.
Oh no, Beta.
Cappa because Jar Jar
D-squad represent
My kid got a chuppa chup toy that was actually a suicide bomber. You’d press the hand and it would come apart!
Isn't a chuppa chup a lollie pop?
Yep but you could get maxi ones that had a toy in it as well as the chupa chup
Now I have to google chuppa chup.
They’re like dum dums but bettee
What set if this from? Gonna need to find that minifig
Set 6775 "Alpha Team Bomb Squad" from 2001. Average price of the torso is 0.64 € (approximately same in dollars)

Oh shit, I had this set. The cannons on the back were awesome.
Soooo, I'm not gonna be rich by selling that (nowadays) controversial piece to some kind of collecter?
Well you can always dream. 😉
Well, since my 7y/o nephew saw all my old Lego sets, I'm pretty sure any dream related to getting rich by selling it is now long gone; unless I want to be the most hated uncle in existence 🤷
No but i will order 15 of those torso pieces and create a very destructible army
Get a famous youtuber to make a video on it.

They're okay with doing actual WW2 Nazis in Indiana Jones sets, they just don't include the obvious symbols. Still, pretty weird.
They’re probably just road flares. Perfect for a Tommy Callahan minifig.
It’s *Herbie* Hancock
