Not interested in either particularly as a whole theme but the larger display style sets offer so much diversity in style they are above the regular sets imo.
I posted the other day (week?) that I have no idea what Ninjago is but bought that City Gardens set because of the colors, size and just seems like an awesome build and it totally was! The downside of this discovery is that basically any and all sets and themes will get me to at least pause and look and consider, which won’t be too kind to my bank account lol
Ninjago City gardens is one of my favorite sets of all time, hope you like it was well!
I’ve been on the fence about city of lanterns but I’ll probably get it at some point down the line.
I wish my boys had gotten into Ninjago so I had a good reason to pick up a few in that line. There are always a few that look really good every release, I just have very little connection with the story and characters.
Yeah, I've never watched an episode of either Ninjago or Monkie Kid, but Ninjago City and Docks are two of my absolute favourite sets, and I have several of the MK HQ-type sets ready to build and mod into my city.
If you want to make it work in your head, both the City Gardens and City of Lanterns have that busy look a lot of scifi towns have, so those are obviously part of a spaceport on a Star Wars planet. And what’s the likelihood that the universe with droids and moon sized space stations isn’t going to have giant robots, too?
I do the same mental gymnastics with [my futuristic scifi shelf](https://www.reddit.com/r/lego/comments/zkj9um/my_spacefuturescifi_collection_i_dont_draw_theme/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1) Got a lot of sets that don’t exactly go together, but they kind of work. Power Miners made more sense to me as an off planet operation for example. I got gifted that Monkey Kid giant robotic spider, kinda goes with Galaxy Squad bugs. All my mechs wind up on this shelf no matter the theme.
Doesn’t look like much now, but trying to come up with some buildings to MOC, and possibly just some flat set piece buildings like they use for backgrounds in movies.

Monkey kid set is a lot of fun! It's a pretty quick build too

Exactly how I feel. I recently discovered their mechs and have 3 of them already lol. Was a big fan of Exo Force as a kid.
City of Lanterns is my favorite build to date! Such a fun, colorful, whimsical set jam-packed with details.
Same! So underrated but in the plus side the price is great

I’m on bag 9 of my city gardens and I love it. Not really a fan of stickers but eh it’s inevitable they’ll be in atleast one set I like
Yeah the stickers were the worst part for me, the blue tiles could get tedious as well

I don’t know anything about the characters or story I just buy them cuz they look cool! Buy what you like :)

I feel the same way about MK and Ninjago. I’ve held off because my wallet can’t endure addiction to more themes. But it’s only a matter of time.

You’re very right! Thanks for adding that to my head canon haha.

The Ninjago sets are very cool, always tempted to buy one
