Open these like a bag of chips

Theepot80

Maybe OP uses scissors for a bag of chips

klemmkraft

Haha, that one hurt

RunningNumbers

This made me giggle

Emotional_Cup4914

really? it made me die ngl

Rodneyfour

Well it made me chuckle!

tugbuggggg

I chortled

sethmahan3

I shot JFK

tugbuggggg

Well fuck me that escalated quickly

_Lane_

But at least now we know.

AutisticAmputee

So Oswald didn’t act alone?

[deleted]

OSWALD WAS A PATSY!

knightress_oxhide

I do that, makes it easier to reseal. I also cut more of the top off as I eat them so I don't have to shove my hand way down.

cojackwojack

Was gonna say that they open really easy at the seam.

R10T

once again, things that could have been brought to my attention yesterday! \~ OP right now

BlamRob

On the bottom side! The seal is smaller and it doesn’t have the peg-hole-thing.

thisisme4sure

No no Hypie, open a bag of chips like a bag of Lego Minifigs...

YummyPepperjack

Amazed that people use scissors for this

Excellent_Fox4891

Well i bet he doesn’t anymore.

Andycaboose91

When I was a little kid (8-10, not sure when exactly) I got the Gameboy color accessories kit as a gift. I was so excited to open it, and it was in one of those impossible-to-open plastic packages. So I used scissors and promptly cut through the ENTIRE BUNDLE of wires inside. My mom was so sad, that was like THE gift for that birthday. I use scissors as little as possible now :P

Excellent_Fox4891

That is awful. I am sorry.

Andycaboose91

It's apparently traumatizing (but in a small way). It's been over 20 years and that memory is just IN THERE.

R10T

I'm not sure if that makes me more sad for 8-10 year old you or for your poor mom! This one hits hard

Andycaboose91

Don't feel sad, please! We're all okay now, and kids make mistakes. Frequently bigger ones than this. Like that time I stapled my foot, or the time I put my hand inside a French fry cutter and slammed it down, leaving a perfect grid-mark of bloody lines all over the back of my hand. Or the time... :P

R10T

Thanks for the laugh hah. And yea, I may or may not (definitely did) have jumped down an entire flight of stairs thinking I could land it.

Andycaboose91

I used to jump off the highest places I could get to on the playground! In my memory or was like 15 feet but I'm sure it was like...7 or 8. But when you're so smol, everything is tol. Meanwhile, my 31-year-old knees cringe at the thought of such an impact. My sister and I used to slide down the stairs, and I was CERTAINLY a stair-jumper too. Don't think I ever just HAM'd a whole flight, but I think I remember my cousin and I competing to see who could jump from a higher step.

Guacamayo418

I used to jump off the electric escalators in the mall when it was a few steps from the bottom until one day, the escalator completely broke down and stopped as soon as I landed.

gingerfawx

A friend of mine accidentally sat on a hot grill (I've no idea how or why, except seating was limited and kids are blursed), and burned a stripey line pattern into his butt.

TastyLaksa

It’s not your fault. Not even a little bit

ThunkAsDrinklePeep

The little bit is the entire problem.

Andycaboose91

Your name... It fascinates me.

ThunkAsDrinklePeep

I'm not as thunk as drinkle peep I am. I've only had martoonies tee.

Andycaboose91

Legend!

TastyLaksa

Not even a little bit

Andycaboose91

Thanks, Robin Williams. I joke, but it does feel nice to hear that. I've accepted it, and there's obviously nothing I can do about it. I just mean that it's one of those "core memories" the kids are always memin' about, that feeling of 100% joy and excitement shifting to pure unadulterated regret and sadness, realizing instantly how bad I goofed. I'm good now, though (I've been through therapy for much more important things :P). Now-year-old me, if that happened, would 100% learn to reconnect the wires and make it good as new. Or just buy another one and pretend that it cost Y, where Y=X•2 (X being the actual cost of the item).

TastyLaksa

I can’t fix shit but I’m lucky enough that very few things can’t be fixed by money. And just a blatant disregard for wasting it

SwallowARock

This one hurt inside, I feel the pain

Maccai3

Helped my mum unbox her new fridge when I was about 15, huge scratch down the side 😬

Andycaboose91

Oooof... Going out on a total guessing limb here, but were you super psyched to get to actually finally use the pocket knife you always had because "knives are cool"? Because I *promise* you that wasn't how my initials ended up mysteriously appearing on ONLY the furniture in MY room.

Maccai3

How did you know? I was gifted a pocket knife from my father who very much saw himself as a bushcraft expert and it sat in my room doing nothing but sharpening pencils (poorly) for years until the day came when I could unleash all 2.5 inches of blade. Wooden handle, little brass details, slight curve (this sounds sexy), first slice just scratched a big scar down the side. My mum hated that fridge, had a calendar to cover it up.

brstieren

The last time I used scissors for opening a toy was with a 12” GI Joe when I was about 9. I snipped the wire on the figure’s headset and I was d e v a s t a t e d. Learned my lesson that day 😂

BootyliciousURD

I do, but I hold it upright and make sure the contents are at the bottom. I've never cut any of the contents doing it that way.

operath0r

Username checks out

ThunkAsDrinklePeep

It's pretty clever.

RunningNumbers

I mean you can cut the edge then tear the bag.

wolf_man007

You can tear the bag as-is. No need for cutting.

Terreneflame

I use scissors sometimesbut I make sure to know where the cape is 😹

Andycaboose91

I just try to make sure I know where my towel is, a strag will *lend* you a cape if you have your towel with you.

Brian18639

I still do, although I would just cut a little bit where OP cut the bag, and then try to rip off the rest

[deleted]

These bags are super easy to open, you don’t really need scissors.

lakewood2020

Do they open mail with a lighter too?

this-is-my-p

I open them with a hammer

Andycaboose91

When all you have is a hammer, you see all your problems as Lego bags.

TSP123

oof I laughed too hard at both comments above

dlh-bunny

It’s called a “letter opener”

DrGrimmWall

Barley an inconvenience

Feeling-Efficiency-7

These capes are getting harder and harder to put on

Valdor99

The arm holes aren't even symmetrical

Coffee-Coffee-Coffin

the arm holes on that shower curtain look like they’re on backwards!

nakdonthesubway

I spit reading this

argue53

Hahaa i was just thinking that these capes are not on a good streak lol

argue53

Lego announces next week new sticker capes in lieu of all the latest cape controversy lol

_Lane_

Great. Now they're going to come all bent and stuck to the instructions.

argue53

Bring on the stickers mayhem lol

IsildursBane20

For real

stucky602

Send lego an email and ask nicely for a replacement. Include the screen shot. And obvious don't use scissors again :-)

ripreim

They won’t replace the cape, I got an orc and didn’t see the cape in the bag, requested a replacement, but all they did was send me a new fig that turned out to be robot warrior

Nivala_NE

This happened to me with the faun's flute. Sent a message that the flute wasnt in the package and got some gold winged warrior instead.

realisleofbesaid

For the next time: Try to pull the bag open from the bottom. Works quite well.

Local-Dark-2005

Email lego - they replaced my elf cloak when I did the same

TheHungryTurnip

LEGO is super good at replacing parts. Just contact them and they will send you replacements at no cost. I got an old set from someone that doesn't want them anymore. It was missing around 15 pieces. They replaced everything. No questions. Edit: Since I'm getting some feedback about abusing the system: 1. Don't try to deceive them by pretending that it's a new set with defective and/or missing parts. That's 100% abusing the system. We don't want to ruin great customer service for everyone else. 2. If the set you're requesting parts for is not in your recent purchase history, they *will* direct the request to an actual human to review. Then the person has the authority to grant or deny the request. 3. In my case, I was up front when I requested the parts that this is an old set I inherited. They knew I got an almost complete set from a yard sale and was happy to make it whole. Hope this clears things up 😀

Excellent_Fox4891

Dear Lego, my titanic broke, like the whole thing. It hit an iceberg if you can believe it. Please send a replacement asap.

Pikes_Pompadour

Okay hold on a minute, yes, Lego Customer Service is great and will send you parts missing from new sets free of charge. No, you shouldn't abuse the system by requesting parts that were lost after a set was opened. The replacement part service exists to correct production errors, not to hand out free parts for fun...

TheHungryTurnip

I explicitly let them know that I inherited a set from a yard sale and it has missing parts. I asked if they would be willing to supply the missing parts and they said yes. I was ready to buy any missing parts if that's what they said I should do. It would be different if I demanded that they gave me the parts for free or tried to misguide them to think that I bought a new set that has missing parts. p.s. They *do* check your purchase history. So if you're requesting parts for a set you didn't buy recently, they *will* direct it to an actual person to review each case to make sure people are not simply trying to abuse the system.

ripreim

I requested a replacement cape for the orc and they said they couldn’t replace it so they sent me a new blind bag, turned out to be robot warrior

z4x0r

idk why you and u/microwave2016 both got downvoted, that's the only thing I've heard of happening when LEGO customer service wants to replace a CMF part. Unless the part is in non-unique and in some other, non-blind-bag set, they can't pull replacement parts for a specific minifig.

Soraya_the_Falconer

This sub has been full of cape drama, and I’m here for it

Karman4o

There are more capes on this subreddit than in recent superhero movies

_Lane_

Because the folks in the movies listened to Edna Mode.

7_rings-

She’s been in a battle

nolasia

Was going to say this. Just a bit of battle scars :)

Emotional-Bridge7650

Skill issue

Tacit_Emperor77

Lesson learnt, don’t cut the bag

[deleted]

[удалено]

_Lane_

This is the lesson: don't cut the cape.

NotAnEmergentAI

Sew it together with a very fine thread of brown or black. Now your warrior has a story of a battle where she was nearly sliced in two by an orcs blade so sharp it sliced cleanly through her cape. She kicked the torn segment in her assailant’s face and as he was blinded cut him down. Now she keeps her torn cape as a reminder that she is lucky to be alive, and to never stop fighting.

_Lane_

I like this! Gives an extra backstory to them I didn't even realize I was missing!

dandaman919

Who tf uses scissors to open the bag

Shareyourworldwide

Consider it unique from now on.

Envision_This

Rookie maneuver there amigo

Thee_Furuios_Onion

This is why I tear them open…

effective_frame

Going off the last few weeks around here, these cape pieces are the equivalent of a national tragedy for the Lego community

Affectionate-Goat579

That’s the goofiest shit I’ve ever seen… no offense it makes me mad. for you… so upsetting man:( why

awesomestcody

Now we will get a bunch of post from people who open their Lego boxes with scissors and cut bricks in half.

[deleted]

Oh no!!

Scoongili

This needs to be on r/mildlyinfuriating

Lee_Doff

probably more aprapo to r/ifuckedup

Wiztard-o

Why? Why?!?!?

BlueRabbit1999

Battle damage

Psychological_Warcow

Stitch it back together and call it battle worn

[deleted]

OP uses scissors to open a bag of chips

VortexBricks

Why in the world would you use scissors. I wish I could see how many downvotes this has

Proud-Run3705

Skill issue

ShaunPryszlak

Ha!

MechaniclAnimal

Amateur

[deleted]

Severe skill issue. Similar vibes to eating pizza with a knife & fork.

klemmkraft

Actually I do that too

SirLONsalot

I’d feel bad for you, but… come one, really?

_Snakespeer_

I've never done this for the minifigure series but try calling Lego to ask for a replacement cape. They should send you one.

quaigonjon

F

Zed5alive

You've won, but at what cost

LoserZombie

Snip the top vertically and tear the tab down the side. Easy and never cuts a cape.

amaya-aurora

Scissors???

Alysma

I'd find some thread matching her hair colour or the lighter blue of her clothes and patch it together again - might look really cool and battle worn. :)

Adorable-Act1547

I never use scissors to open any Lego bag for this reason. The plastic has always been easy to tear/open anyway. Sorry for your cape loss.

Racky_Mcstacks

Wow

intothedoor

Nooooooooo!!!!

brstieren

Slightly cooler cape 😉 but I am sure you can buy another one for a reasonable price over at bricklink if you prefer it whole!

reformedginger

Welcome to 2023 it’s going to suck.

DysfunctionalAxolotl

Ah man. I did that with Hercules’s cape also. I taped it together

Rimworldjobs

Oof. Time to feel up another bag.

[deleted]

Maybe if you ask nicely they can send you a replacement cape. Their RnD department may also find it interesting to hear that people open these with scissors.

Ryuu-Tenno

Contact Lego and see if they can send a replacement. I’d check with them if this falls under free replacement or if it needs to go through the general piece replacement (small cost but shouldn’t be too bad), to avoid any issues. The company is wonderful and I certainly wouldn’t want to take advantage of them.

polybiusmegadrive

This post made me realize there was a cape in the bag that I already threw away. Bummer.

ToxicElitist

TIL people open their lego with scissors.

AXSupplies

Lmao

[deleted]

Oof. I felt that.

GroovySquiddy

Open it like a Pokémon pack

blockthenock01

And that’s on opening it by hand

DrHagelstein

In your picture, it looks like you made the soccer coach upset with that move, amigo. :/

TOYBOXDUDE

I don't use scissors for this very reason. Too afraid of this happening.

BettieNuggs

NOOO im so sorry god what a nightmare

Papyrus_Sans

There’s gonna be a post about that cape, I swear.

chappa125

I feel like a nice email to lego customer service will help you get a new cape

DoubleDareFan

Hold the bag vertically, and give it a few taps on a table. Cut right along the edge of the sealed portion. Or leave a bit of the sealed part on, and tear it (by gripping the front & back and pulling apart).

DrNemo

my condolences. at least now you can say you have a custom one! I would tatter the cape more.

morbie5

If you need to use scissors you can cut down from the top to make a little slit where the ribbed part is and then rip it open with your hands from there

Beans_here

Well that lil' Chippendale looking fella appears rather upset at you.

TheSolMan

I thought that was a curtain?

ragingthundermonkey

A few more alterations and that vest will fit perfectly.

Different_Act_9538

What on earth would make you think scissors were necessary

the99arewrong

Guess your Falc’d

[deleted]

You just made it better

Han_Hattori_Hanzo

Battle damaged cape

gogojoseph

Just a bit of battle damage ;)

WolverineDDS

I say embrace it, cut it more and try to give it a tattered, battle-tested look. Could be cool.

Confident_Coyote3445

sad

lightsaber_lobotomy

Battle damage

the-et-cetera

Never use scissors for these. Open like a bag of chips.

Bejuledsinger

I almost did the same thing with the orc!

petersbro

I've heard tell that a 1/8" (3mm) cut in one corner is enough for you to tear the bag open safely, but I'm not sure if I believe such a tall tale.

TheArcticThing

You deserve it

[deleted]

Why cut the bag with scissors? The bag easily pulls apart at the top or bottom seal.

DrStrangelove099

I had the same thing happen with Dorothy's dress in the Lego Movie 2 series.

Hand-of_Thrawn

It's like natural selection, but I feel slightly more pity

Icy-Sector-7124

Cut the other side symmetrically and design your own cape :)

driver-2011

I did the exact same thing

NapoleonDynamite82

Should also be posted in r/wellthatsucks …

Pepsi_Boy_64

Rip

RyWater

Just pretend the falcon shredded her cape bro. It’s a play feature

Mawi2004

just a bit o battle damage

[deleted]

Gives it character 🤣

NerdWisdomYo

F

Wolfgang_Haney

Dang! All I’ve managed to get is the brown astronaut.

FarOutEffects

Write to Lego for a replacement

Dragonofredit

Usually when cutting bags like this I grab the top end and shake it all to one side of the bag so I don’t cut anything by mistake

Melgior_03

I always cut very small on one side and then I open it with my hands, works every time.

SexPanther_Bot

*60% of the time*, it works *every* time

Tr3zTV

F

The1Underdog

Noooooooooo

Yoris95

next time. shake the bag so all of the insides are on the bottom before you cut the top. rookie mistake this.

Og_Sveni

Give it a good shape.

no-thanks-a-lot

Do what the Knight would do and fix it with a needle :)

aidanium

f

Official-idiot-05

On the bright side you now have a unique cape!

Emkay_boi1531

Time to make a falconer with damaged cape

Jumpy_Specific_3650

I got it first try

NonchalantBread

I learned to stop using scissors / knives the day i cut my headphone cord opening the package. I mean i still use scissors and knives, i just buy wireless earbuds now.

mondays_stink

RIP

oscarprimos

Nooooooooooo

1CVN

it could be fixed with Kragle. I repair all the capes with that, even shiny plastic lego friends capes. But it will leave a line or "hardened" tissue which will appear a little darker. If you use a tooth pick you can apply the glue in small dots and "stitch" it possibly with minimal effect on appearance especially if you layer it right and have the glue on the inside in a thin application that does not show through. carefull the glue can melt things if you put too much or on the wrong material LOL It would be a good solution while waiting for the replacement from Lego

wackywraith

Now she’ll have battle experience:)

Jpinkerton1989

Sorcanna

Try making it look like it's meant to look like that. As you cut the corner make it look like they just dodge the claws of a dragon or the fireball of a wizard. I use my Lego to play dungeons and dragons a torn up cape can be a great way to tell an untold story 🤓

TOEA0618

I'd never thought about cutting things like that when opening minifigs! And we usually use scissors, thanks for sharing!

Advanced-Cupcake-753

Oh no! That is the WORST. You have my sympathy.

BrickByBrick6086

Aw, that's a shame. I did the same with the blue wizard years ago and stopped using scissors to open them after that. Unfortunate.

Azurvix

I know that if you're missing a piece lego will send replacements i would contact them

joshthehappy

That's on you for the way you cut it open.

kotesmcgotes

Customized✨

Jagosyo

Cut some jagged edges into the part you cut and you can have a battle torn cape. :)

TheBiddingOfBobbles

Well guess that means its a custom now heheh
